janhenrik_: afaik other allwinner chips have the same 4 pin (single data line) interface for I2S. the S3 peripheral looks pretty similar to the one on the H3 which has been usable for quite some time. frame sync = word select = L/R clock, just different names for the same thing

tkaiser: the Allwinner's FEX file lists 1040mV as the minimum voltage and the H3 datasheet even has 1100mV as the recommended minimum for VDD_CPUX

Can someone please guide me on how to make Allwinner h3 kernel + uboot with custom modloop
2016-04-05
<jelle>
hmm allwinner u-boot for the h3 does not do hdmi?

longsleep: We had a reported issue with H3 BSP kernel that corrupted AppleTalk multicast packets. I tried it out just for fun with your Xenial image: Also broken (maybe at Allwinner nobody knows that there exist other protocols than IP? ;)

<lvrp16>
the allwinner h3 should be built on the tsmc 28nm lp process
<tkaiser>
willmore: According to TL Lim A64 is 40nm (cites an Allwinner PM) and I would suspect the same is true for H3. And Allwinner never said anything regarding this, only 3rd parties

I am trying with orangepi-2 with allwinner h3 cpu. but I can't get its speaker work

the 3.4 kernel for H3 is originating directly from Allwinner, plus some relatively minor bugfixes :-)

Hi i read about kodi for allwinner h3. Are there any kodi sources with cedrus?

<tucker>
What's the status of nand support in mainline? Is the H3 supported? is SKhynix H27UCG8Y2ETR (MLC) supported enough to read the allwinner-formatted boot area without instantly destroying it on probe?
2016-02-17
<KotCzarny>
i wonder if it applies to the rest of h3 family (with mainline uboot and allwinner kernel)

<Rambler44>
Allwinner making the H3 successor and the AmLogic going into C2, but support going to be all crap.

<Rambler44>
So I was looking at a H3 and A64 board, it has about the 1 GHz I need and made with 28nm process. Was wondering if I should pick an earlier Allwinner device for support, I guess I'm too greedy looking at Cortex-A7+, maybe one with A20?

Hi, any news for allwinner h3 users? are there some updates in OSD?

SMD1: there are patches for USB host support on Allwinner H3 for the Linux kernel

in principle somebody can hack the Allwinner's 3.4 kernel for H3 and add EDID support there too, but it's hard to find a motivated individual to do this work

<tkaiser>
If I understand correctly H3, A83T and H64 use the same new MAC implementation. And results with Allwinner's BSP driver on Banana Pi M3 (A83T) looked somewhat promising: 550-730 Mbits/sec without further tuning

<GeneralStupid>
can anybody help me with OSD and Allwinner H3?

<jemk>
rellla: disp is what we have in linux-sunxi, disp2 is the new new one from allwinner for h3. and disp1.5 is the new old disp ...
<tkaiser>
And then on Allwinner SoCs it makes a difference whether a display is detected or not. SoC temperature and consumption increase with connected display. And the 'display engine' is in enabled state the first 10 minutes after a boot (at least on H3 and A83T, haven't checked A20)

ssvb: are you reading allwinner SDK? what codename do they use for H3?
<ssvb>
the Allwinner code makes the OpenRISC core run from DRAM in H3

<GeneralStupid>
hi guys, is there a way to watch the current of my allwinner h3 ?
2015-12-10
<ssvb>
jemk: I think I heard that somebody was saying that openrisc had been replaced by cortex-m3 in newer allwinner chips, but the the blob in the h3 sdk looks like it contains openrisc code

with allwinner you have A10, A13, A20, A33...A80, A83T, H3...

but then it is a really good device, the allwinner h3 costs about 8$ and that device such 15...

<TheLinuxBug>
"The ‘problem’ with the H3 is that it’s being marketed as “up to 1.6 GHz” but that’s just marketing bullsh*t suitable to provide higher Antutu scores. When you do benchmarking for your tablet’s press release you also switch off the ‘thermal controls’ contained in Allwinner’s 3.4 kernel: Normally the CPU cores are being shut down one after the other. To work with this chip in a realiable way you simply don’t exceed a core voltage of 1.2V which translate

Hey, just curious if anyone has tried kernel 4.2 on an Allwinner H3 based boards (Orange Pi 2, Orange PI PC, etc)

<BorgCuba>
hi, I recently received my orange-pi pc boards (allwinner h3). I have some trouble getting hdmi to work. the board is hooked up to a pc monitor via hdmi->dvi cable.

hrm.. funny how there are various SDKs with newer SoC support (H3), but nothing in allwinner-zh github :S

<makama80>
check IRC log using "H3 allwinner"
<makama80>
I see a lot of questions / remarks regarding the H3 based boards... did anyone bother to contact Allwinner itself? Maybe an e-mail from the community can push them a little bit?

added to Linux 4.2, but I think these are the Allwinner A20 based only. I have not seen work done on Allwinner H3 specifically, but it’s a sun8i platform like A23 so maybe it might boot too.

Hi all, anyone know how I can build mainline or linux-next for allwinner h3?
2015-10-14

hey, who knows most about the Allwinner H3? I read that olimex said it was pin-compatible, but the datassheet seems to dissagree

vishnup: it looks like the sunxi-tools fel MMU fix is also needed for Allwinner H3 :)

any way to boot the orange pi plus (Allwinner H3 based) from eMMC?
2015-05-11
<Callmea>
it's like a rasp pi 2 but msemms to be more powerfull and it uses a H3 allwinner chip
2015-05-09
<vishnup>
okie, I think h3 smp is as same as a23 and a33, this way let's make it "allwinner, sun8i" compatible.
2015-05-06

jemk: btw, what machine string (sun8iXXXX) does allwinner use for H3?

Hi all, I’ve just recieved a devboard running the AllWinner H3, but the kernel looks quite old
2015-05-04
<markvandenborre>
I've just read that someone has been able to boot the orange pi plus (allwinner H3 based) using a kernel compiled from public, non-tainted sources
2015-04-27
<markvandenborre>
I see that the orange pi people have released a debian server image for their Allwinner H3 based Orange pi plus
2015-03-26
<cooper__>
Something completely different: According to Wikipedia the AllWinner H3 is basically a shrunken copy of the A31 (smaller manufacturing process). Any word yet on wether someone from the linux-sunxi community is looking into getting it going with Linux?
2015-03-24
<cooper>
The Orange Pi Mini 2 has an AllWinner H3 on it which is said to be a quad V7 @ 1.6 GHz. That would work for me, but on the sunxi wiki I see no mention of the H3 CPU...

topi`: I presume there must be some sort of Allwinner H3 SDK, which is used on this Orange Pi board to run something

rds: as for the rpi2 alternative from allwinner, the h3 soc looks good (quad core a7 at a supposedly decent clock speed, mali, sata)
