(I'm still getting my head around uboot on the BananaPi thankfully its supported by mainline so it shouldn't be that hard to get that working the way I want it) So much conflicting information with the Orange Pi PC though its unbelievable.

What needs to be written before partition 1, and where (boot0,boot1)? Does linux-sunxi and Android use the same PT?

I managed to build u-boot based on Jens Kuske's patches, and load u-boot and a uImage via fel mode (the o-pi-pc I have fails over to FEL if no microsd present), and get a uart u-boot console.

I haven't managed to boot a kernel with that setup yet, because I was trying with a sunxi uImage from one of the debian images (looks like I needed to enable some legacy mode in u-boot/spl to boot an old u-image)
