<ChriChri> I'd have a question about https://linux-sunxi.org/FEL/USBBoot#SoC_support_status : I have an Allwinner B288 (id=1699) device which I'd like to boot using FEL/USB. As I understand I need to have parameters for "MMU setup" and "Stack pointers" to be able to use it. How can I get those parameters from the device or the devices software?
<plaes> might be wrong here, but it might be that this info has been taken from builting boot rom

<ChriChri> plaes: Wifi? Yes, so what? You mean that the information in the wiki is taken from the fel.c source and/or that B288 might be the same as H3? Sorry, if I'm sounding like an idiot, but I'm not a developer and I'm just getting started with all this context around Allwinner devices...
ldevulder_ has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<plaes> nah.. I meant that you can look up a similar SoC and try with adapting those, although being B-series SoC it might be not that simple)
_whitelogger has joined #linux-sunxi
<ChriChri> I thougt it might be possible to get these values from /proc, /sys, kernel- or uboot-config somehow?

<tuxd3v> hello all
<tuxd3v> does any one knows the size of a regular aarch64 build for the kernel series 4.X?
<tuxd3v> I am getting almost 18MB
<megi> what is regular build? :)
<megi> that sounds about right
<tuxd3v> the size for a 5.3.X is around 12MB
<fALSO> depends
<fALSO> if you put a lot of modules on the kernel....
<megi> I have modules builtin and get 22MiB
<fALSO> it will probably be even bigger
<tuxd3v> the 4.X series seems huggee
<tuxd3v> :)
<fALSO> 21M Image
<fALSO> tuxd3v, depends of what you enable
<megi> one other kernel I try to boot fast I put a lot of things into modules and get 13MiB
<fALSO> tuxd3v, its the same for every kernel
<tuxd3v> yeah but with 4.X series itsa lot bigger
<tuxd3v> I even tough that it would be because I optimized it for speed, but then compared with the 5.3.x series and its a lot diferent..
<tuxd3v> almost with same config for both..
<tuxd3v> but 5.4x doesn't botted, I do t know why..
<tuxd3v> late at night I will try again..
<tuxd3v> Any advice?
<fALSO> Any messagE?
<tuxd3v> for 5.4?
<fALSO> Yes while booting
<fALSO> Or the kernel simply doesnt boot?
<tuxd3v> I couldn't see nothing in the serial..
<tuxd3v> it sometimes output data sometimes don't..
<tuxd3v> :D
<tuxd3v> the kernel doesn't booted
<tuxd3v> don't know why
<tuxd3v> if any one has a 5.4x serries for 5.4 I would apreciate
<tuxd3v> I tried with a slighly changed 5.3.9, but to no avail
<fALSO> probably something missing from the conf
<tuxd3v> I optimized it maybe it was miss aligned in some way..
<fALSO> which board is it?
<tuxd3v> HOSTCFLAGS := -Os -march=armv8-a+simd+crypto+crc -mtune=cortex-a53 -finline-functions \
<tuxd3v> -foptimize-sibling-calls -foptimize-strlen -fif-conversion -funroll-loops -ftree-vectorize
<tuxd3v> HOSTCXXFLAGS := -Os -march=armv8-a+simd+crypto+crc -mtune=cortex-a53 -finline-functions \
<tuxd3v> -foptimize-sibling-calls -foptimize-strlen -fif-conversion -funroll-loops -ftree-vectorize
<fALSO> ??
<tuxd3v> its a small optimization..
<tuxd3v> 10 loops
<tuxd3v> and inline functions here it should be bigger, but I believe that not by so much..
<tuxd3v> for Allwinnenr H6
<tuxd3v> the kernel Makefile
<fALSO> tuxd3v,
<[TheBug]> 'couldn't see nothing` just FYI thats is a double negative implying you do see something. Just one of those fun English things, you basically stated "could not see noththing". ;)
<[TheBug]> nothing*
<diego71> try with a clean Makefile, and see if it works
<fALSO> try this config
<fALSO> just comment line 250 before
<fALSO> the one that says: CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE

<tuxd3v> diego71: I tried that after..
<tuxd3v> to no avail :(
<tuxd3v> also cross compiling tools don't know what is '-march=armv8-a+simd+crypto+crc' , nor what is '-mtune=cortex-a53'
<tuxd3v> I had to just use only
<tuxd3v> '-march=armv8-a
<tuxd3v> for the 8.3 toolchain
<tuxd3v> aarch64 ofcourse..
<tuxd3v> but there is dificult to understand HOSTCFLAGS, or HOSTCXXFLAGS... because my host is a x86 :D
<tuxd3v> the guest or foreign its aarch64
<tuxd3v> maybe that is the problem..
<fALSO> its very easy to cross compile the kernel
<tuxd3v> fALSO: the megous config will work in orange pi one plus?
<fALSO> yes, just no network
<tuxd3v> yes but for that I already have your patch ;)
<fALSO> :-D
<tuxd3v> it work nicelly at least on 5.3.7-9
<fALSO> to cross compile the kernel
<fALSO> just export CROSS_COMPILE='aarch64-unknown-linux-gnu-'
<tuxd3v> My problem is not crosscompiling it, but when you define HOSTCFLAGS, or HOSTCXXFLAGS, in Makefile to another arch than the phisical host one
<tuxd3v> it doesn't even accept -mtune=cortex-a53
<fALSO> why are you changing the CFLAGS of the kernel ?
<fALSO> you shouldt probably do that
<tuxd3v> and I am talking about the 8.3 toolchain
<fALSO> thats probavly why it doesnt boot
<tuxd3v> maybe he missalign some structure..
<tuxd3v> maybe the -Os could also be responsible for that missalignement
<tuxd3v> I will try again :)
<fALSO> you shoulnt mess with cflags on the kernel
<tuxd3v> I will fetch, the 5.4-rc7 and then begin :)
tnovotny has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<tuxd3v> fALSO, maybe it even could be my building tool, that has some rigid requirements for it..
<tuxd3v> but I will try megi config, if ok I will exclude a problem in my builder.. :)
<fALSO> dont forget to comment the extra_firmware line
<fALSO> or it will fail
<tuxd3v> yeah, thanks for remember me of that
<tuxd3v> lines 250,251
<tuxd3v> ;)
<megi> or you can get firmware from here https://xff.cz/git/linux-firmware/ :)
<tuxd3v> thanks also to megi for helping me out, several times =)
<megi> :)
<karlp> the linux-firwmare repo mess is ... such a mess.
<karlp> megi: do you ahve files in yours megi that aren't able to go into that one?
<megi> karlp: that depends on the license
<megi> I don't have any license
<megi> also some of the files are board specific
<karlp> yeah, your https://xff.cz/git/linux-firmware/tree/brcm/brcmfmac43362-sdio.txt is completely different to theirs. (though they at least use ,board suffixes, so you have a chance at tracking it :)

<tuxd3v> does you guys have rng-tools installed in your rootfs?
<tuxd3v> I have but with /dev/urandom
<karlp> different file sizes on the .bin files too. yay!
<karlp> absolutely attrocious commit messges, no versions, no nothing
<karlp> that xff.cz has pretty lame commit messges too, no information on sourcing
<karlp> just "added files"

<megi> strange, which config?
<tuxd3v> I tried it with lines 250,251 commented
<tuxd3v> mainline 5.4-rc7
<megi> interesting :)
<megi> not sure where the diff comes from, but we have about 5MiB difference
