<willmore> megi, it may be the OS I am running?
<willmore> It's an Orange Pi One Plus, so it's expected to be a bottom bin part.
<willmore> Sorry, zero plus.
<megi> do other h6 commands produce something?
<willmore> What would you like me to try?
<megi> try h6-ths-dump
<willmore> k
<megi> i'm not sure about the real name
<megi> if you run it without any, it will print the list
<willmore> megi, it just gives me the menu.
<megi> yes
<megi> there'll be something h6 ths there
<willmore> dump-h6-ths
<willmore> Gives all zeros.
<megi> hmm, that may not be the best test, because it will give 0 if you don't have ths driver enabled :)
<willmore> operator error..... one sec
<willmore> Okay, you might want to put in a "hey, idiot, this is an H5, not an H6, this won't work, stupid" check in there.....
<megi> maybe just dump-h6, that will print ccu and that must print non-0 register values, unless you have /dev/mem access blocked
<willmore> I get raw=1, etc. slow bin.
<megi> ah :)
<megi> good!
<willmore> And I'm stupid.
<willmore> dump-ths gives a few entries, but mostly zero
<megi> yeah, reading /dev/mem works if it returns non-0
<megi> thanks!
<willmore> Glad to help, sorry it took so long, I've been gone for most of the last two weeks.
<megi> looks like Xunlong mostly uses H6 from the slow bin
<willmore> Three? Time blurs.
<willmore> Well, mine is a OnePlus, so I don't expect top bin for that price point.
<willmore> Still, awesome value for what I got vs what I paid.
<megi> actually the one result from the best bin was on Opi Lite2
<willmore> Not complaining. I'm still shocked at how fast it is on even simple stuff like doing OS updates.
<willmore> LOL, cool.
<megi> and one normal bin was also Opi Lite2
<megi> the rest were a lot of slow bins
<megi> It might have been that they used faster bins on some early H6 boards

<willmore> Or they just didn't make any.
<willmore> megi, if you need H3, H5, or H6 stuff like this checked in the future, please feel free to ask me directly. I'm glad to help. I've benefitted way more from your work than you have from mine. The beer's in your court.
<megi> ok :)
<willmore> I have PC, PC2, zero (x2), zero+, one (x2), one+. I even have a Pine64 that's not online, but I can fire it up if you need an A64. It's an early one, too, if that matters.
<megi> that's quite a xunlong collection

<tllim> There are three different classes on H6, PINE64 pays more to have the top binning lot for PINE H64.
<KotCzarny> so allwinner actually cares about binning and not just randomly sell them?
<tllim> The price of H6 between top bin and bottom bin almost double.

<ullbeking> I'm currently assembling a "shopping list" or comprehensive list of serial communications hardware, software, blogs, standards, data sheets, books, etc, that everybody who works with serial comms should know. I've enjoyed getting to know serial comms seriously and fairly deeply, and this would be aimed at similarly interested people.
<ullbeking> maybe something like this already exists. does anybody have any suggestions of things I should look at?
<ullbeking> for example, 3v3 UART to USB converters are almost a necessity. and there are several different kinds of devices and IC's that these devices are based on.

<aalm> ullbeking, if you know a bit of C, and like hacking on MCUs too, i'd suggest taking a look at https://docs.zephyrproject.org/latest/boards/arm/stm32_min_dev/doc/index.html (usable as uart to usb converter, with bonus points for being able to have it carry something that can be used to identify it on attach etc., for price <= cheapest hw for the same task :])
<aalm> err, i mean it's close to "arduino-level hacking" given zephyr does support both uart & usb (cdc serial) on that cheap hw avail from ebay and so on, to make such converter out of it
