<mnemoc> techn_: around?
<techn_> just came.. busy for a while
<mnemoc> techn_: about the fbcon stuff, I wanted to know if you reproduced the crash "doozan" reported and if it's fine for you if I just commit an squashed version of your branch now
<mnemoc> techn_: hi ;-)
<mnemoc> squashed to get rid of the tab/space noise
<mnemoc> eflatun: i would be impressed if RT produces any sbc this year, but ask luke on the ML
<mnemoc> uhm... squashing it still includes tons of whitespace-only changes :<

<hno> hi mnemoc
<mnemoc> hi hno
<hno> did you see my mail?
<mnemoc> hno: I tried all different options for the card detect before leaving for vacations, none worked :|
<hno> mine works flawlessly except for the card-detect.
<hno> have it currently set on always present, even then you can write 0 to the magic insert file to trigger a rescan.
<mnemoc> hno: can you give me your .bin?
<mnemoc> "magic insert file" means sdc_detmode = 4 ?
<mnemoc> i think I didn't test that one...
<hno> don't remember the numbers off hand. The magic file is always there I think. But only meaningful in settings always present and manual.
* hno tries to find the right .bin..
<hno> and gives up. Will fetch it from the board in a while, not connected at the moment (had to clean my desk)

<hno> Ah, right. Need to connect UART cable as well. u-boot is configured to enable JTAG and stop at prompt.
<RaYmAn> hno: u-boot spl works now or?
Vayu_ has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<hno> RaYmAn, the Allwinner A13 u-boot works..
<hno> haven't had time to look at u-boot since last week.
<RaYmAn> ah
<hno> I have some doubt about the bus divisors I set in test1. Probably that setting is for when running the low speed set by boot0.
<hno> RaYmAn, have you had any chance to look at the test1 changes?
<RaYmAn> not in any significant detail
<mnemoc> hno: uh, so you kept card detection to gpio buy changed the pin?
<mnemoc> s/buy/but/
<ibot> mnemoc meant: hno: uh, so you kept card detection to gpio but changed the pin?
<hno> Hm... let me check
<hno> odd, played with a number of different settings.

<mnemoc> hno: eh? i saw PB03... and that's also what comes in dimitar's .fex
* mnemoc will connect the olinuxino now
<RaYmAn> there are two seperate card detects - the "builtin" on DATA3/CD and the explicit one on PG0...how it works in practice, I don't know, but that's the confusion i guess? :)
<techn_> mnemoc: There's that "sel-loop-improvement"
<mnemoc> RaYmAn: according to the amazing documentation to use data3 sdc_detmode has to be set to 2
<mnemoc> RaYmAn: so I'll assume dimitar and I failed to read the schematics properly :)
<Lupu_> Hello, has anyone noticed fullscreen video been rendered outside the android viewing area?

<mnemoc> Lupu_: but stay tuned, they may take over the channel any time ;-)
<mnemoc> techn_: I'm sure it won't be the last :)
<mnemoc> techn_: after fbcon the next goal there is to merge sun[345]i disp drivers into a single sunxi driver, most of the code is identical

<techn_> mnemoc: I was thinking next to commit those magic number away, since currently there is some stuff reserved for 32 framebuffers and some for 8.. and there is max 2 ?
rellla has quit [Quit: SYLA]
<techn_> with magic numbers I mean about those fb_info_t array count's and some loops
<mnemoc> maybe a CONFIG_ ?
<mnemoc> 32 sounds kind of.... excesive :p
<ccssnet> 32 sounds to minimal for an admin workstation...
<ccssnet> lol
<ccssnet> j/k. that is quite a bit to have
<techn_> It could save even megabytes of memory :p
<ccssnet> im never in more then 4 really..
<techn_> since there is __disp_fb_create_para_t fb_para[FB_MAX]; .. and FB_MAX is 32
<RaYmAn> ccssnet: never in more than 4 framebuffers? :P Virtual terminals are all on the same fb for example ;)
<RaYmAn> anything past 2 seems kind of excessive for this stuff (though, I guess double & tripple buffering may need it?)
<Turl> RaYmAn: the disp stuff seems to be able to handle dual framebuffers from what I saw
<Turl> (simultaneously)
<mnemoc> wtf... a "senior software engineer" working in samsung india asked on linkedin if comments affects runtime of a program...
<mnemoc> (in C)
<techn_> ah.. counted wrong, ~30kilobytes :)
<Turl> mnemoc: link lol
<Turl> mnemoc: ever wondered why their UI sucks so much? :P
<RaYmAn> Turl: sure... but you aren't likely to get more than LCD + HDMI in any device

<ccssnet> mnemoc: are they fired yet?
<mnemoc> techn_: I really believe we need to flatten/merge does drivers before trying to optimize anything, but cleanups are still welcomed

<ibot> mnemoc meant: techn_: I really believe we need to flatten/merge those drivers before trying to optimize anything, but cleanups are still welcomed
<techn_> k
<hno> RaYmAn, data3 detection requires a slightly different circuit
<hno> R15 pullup resistor needed for Data3 detection to work.
<hno> PB3 is PIN7 / GPIO-2:11
<hno> I suspect the error is that there is a pulldown resistor on the card-detect line. Should probably be a pull-up or floating (there is internal pull-up/down control in PIO for GPIO lines)
<hno> maybe it work to set the internal pull-up.
<mnemoc> hno: replied
<hno> Ok, so yours seem to have more issues.
<mnemoc> before leaving 2w ago I tested all pins and they had power... so I have no idea what else to test :<
<hno> the power on/off messages is the kernel powering on/off the controller.
<mnemoc> want the full dmesg?
<hno> no thanks
<mnemoc> :)
specing_ is now known as specing
<mnemoc> powering off the controller after failing to initialize the card sounds fair
<hno> a guess is that there is a short on some signal. You hsould be able to test for that using PIO by setting all but one pin as input and read if there is any changes when toggling the output pin, iterating over the pins.
<hno> it's only 6 pins.
<mnemoc> ok
<hno> I get the exact same messages except that I get "[ 6069.610000] mmc0: new high speed SD card at address 0002" instead of error 110.
<hno> Are you sure the card is properly seated in the socket? It should be almost flush to the PCB edge.
<hno> because I get your sequence if I eject the card but leave it in the socket-
<hno> if the card is more than 1 mm out from the PCB edge then it's not inserted right.
<mnemoc> it feels well connected...
<mnemoc> i'll play a bit with it
<hno> it's fairly obvious when it's right. You can then push the card a little and it gets ejected.
<mnemoc> actually the socket is sightly loosy
<mnemoc> [ 239.040000] mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address 1234
<mnemoc> [ 239.060000] mmcblk0: mmc0:1234 SA16G 14.6 GiB
<mnemoc> [ 239.070000] mmcblk0: p1
<mnemoc> :D
<hno> what did you do?
<mnemoc> replugged it a couple of times
<mnemoc> it always ejected and "clicked" fine, but suddenly it was detected
* mnemoc uberly happy :)
<hno> so either poorly mounted socket, or clogged by a bit of dust.
<mnemoc> it seems it was just dust... I've tried 6 times after the first time it was detected and worked (almost) fine
<mnemoc> power off/disconnect/connect/power on -> immediately detected
<mnemoc> but if I connect it after the system is up, it's only detected after doing the `echo` trick
<mnemoc> but always detected
<mnemoc> I mean, no error -~
<mnemoc> -110
<mnemoc> thanks! :)
<hno> I had the eject mechanism fail on me some time ago, presumably also due to some dust. Played with it a bit, blew some air on it and then started to work.
