guys is it possible to install linux to nand
<mnemoc>
sure
<mnemoc>
android is just another linux dristribution, with brainf*ed userspace
<TomNL>
hehe
<mnemoc>
in sunxi-tools we have a helper to repartition the nand
<TomNL>
ok i will check:) thnx
<mnemoc>
touch anything except nanda
<TomNL>
nanda is bootloader?
<mnemoc>
more of a boot partition
<rm>
dristribution <- in russian this sounds something along the lines of "crap-stribution"
<rm>
so your typo was correct
<mnemoc>
:p
<mnemoc>
TomNL: nand's boot1 (closed source bootloader) loads u-boot from nanda. you can replce with with your own or configure it to load your own uImage
<mnemoc>
from there on the location of rootfs or partitioning it's your own business
<TomNL>
ok thnx, first trying to set everything up on SD now..but i guess nand if much faster
<mnemoc>
but has a worse driver
<TomNL>
ah ok

<captainigloo>
ah that's a good thing, i will be able to create the number of partitions i need !

i don't undersand why the reinvent the whell here ...

<captainigloo>
ah ok

most drivers are just their old non-linux drivers + glue

it's the lichee-dev ot the gpl violating one ?

<mnemoc>
rz2k: can you send him a mail over the linux-sunxi list? to start giving it life and in the mean time "documenting" the mali/x11 process
<plan_b>
mnemoc, you mentioned a gpl violation (nand) ... where can I find more information about this problem? On the arm-netbook mailing list?
<mnemoc>
plan_b: it's simple. the shipped u-boot and linux kernels in the devices are built from a not public tree
<mnemoc>
the public repos are made composing partial and old source files got from different sources
<plan_b>
mnemoc, ahhh ... I see
<mnemoc>
initially having gpl-incompatible headers
<mnemoc>
but fortunatelly they "accepted" to properly GPL the "leaked" sources
<mnemoc>
but for them they aren't more than a leak. stolen code
<plan_b>
I'm using uboot-multi-allwinner at the moment because it supports nand
<plan_b>
Would like to switch to the "real" u-boot .. so I have to wait
<mnemoc>
plan_b: use hno's lichee-dev for now

[20:07:42] <@rm> for some reason - I believe reason is copycats, before sun3i and sun4i there was SoChip/Boxchip SoC called sunii. This one was developed by allwinner but somehow got to market with name of SoChip/Boxchip, next one was named f20 and was sun3i, there was cloned something with f20 markings from boxchip too.

<techn_>
drachensun: I think you should be able to use both simultanious

that is supposed to make u boot wait for the flash system to settle before booting
<mnemoc>
neither does Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt
<drachensun>
I found it in some forum, but yeah, I'm not sure it helped my problem

<drachensun>
heh so you think that command is junk aye, could be

10" A10, its a generic OEM one, just says tablet PC on the box
<drachensun>
I guess would the kernel flag that as invalid when starting up? I can check in my log
<techn_>
I have MID A10 and MID A13 tablets.. both have boot problems :(
<drachensun>
I have an A13 here too, I haven't tried any of this on here
<drachensun>
but both my 7" and 10" A10 started booting with that clock value
<drachensun>
I sell these so I have a ton of different ones laying around
<drachensun>
techn: are you getting random errors every time you boot? That was my symptom, it was never the same thing twice
<techn_>
I dont own serial cable yet.. so don't know what is the problem
<techn_>
but generally it takes 3-15min's to get them boot so that backlight starts
<techn_>
A13 tablet boots well when it get's into that state
<techn_>
A10 tablet crashes.. dunno crash cause
<drachensun>
that was the other funny thing, if I let android start first it then reset it was much more likely to boot
<drachensun>
wow, mine usually boots in 20 seconds or so it seems like
<drachensun>
oh but that uboot is set to reset after 10 seconds right?

so its just trying over and over until it gets lucky

if lsusb doesn't show the rtl, and you are sure one exists, the usbc is disabled
<mnemoc>
you might have decompiled the wrong .bin
<ZaEarl>
should lsusb see something even before a driver is loaded?
<mnemoc>
ZaEarl: yes
<ZaEarl>
great, then that's my first step to get working right
popolon has joined #arm-netbook
<mnemoc>
there are some images out there using "evb.bin" instead of script.bin
<ZaEarl>
usbwifi section is short:
<ZaEarl>
[usb_wifi_para]
<ZaEarl>
usb_wifi_used = 1
<ZaEarl>
usb_wifi_usbc_num = 2
<ZaEarl>
yes, this image uses evb.bin
<mnemoc>
that section tells allwinnerised wifi drivers to enable usbc2 when loading the module
<mnemoc>
so, to use a mainline driver instead of the allwinnerised one you have to change usbc2 to start enabled
<mnemoc>
then the kernel will see the bus, see the device, and automatically load the module.... which will probably fail because of the missing /lib/firmware file
<techn_>
usb_wifi_para, thats weird hardcoding.. allwinner won't support usb wlan sticks without that set on? :)
<mnemoc>
they see it as a power management feature...
<techn_>
ah.. got it.. still weird :)
<mnemoc>
ZaEarl: if you run a retard image that loads the board configuration of the devkit instead of one customized for your board you should really replace the uboot in that card (and clear it's env)
<mnemoc>
ZaEarl: and then get the real stock .bin
<ZaEarl>
the image is loading my evb.bin file, I can switch from hdmi to lcd with it.
<ZaEarl>
but yes, I need to replace uboot, kernel, the whole works eventually
<mnemoc>
fine. you run a customized wrong file
<ZaEarl>
yes, lots of problems with my evb.bin file
<ZaEarl>
I'm cleaning it up.
<mnemoc>
evb.bin is a backup of the script.bin of the reference board
<mnemoc>
sure it can be adjusted to match your board
<ZaEarl>
using the script.bin from stock android doesn't work as is.
<mnemoc>
define "doesn't work"
<ZaEarl>
won't boot
<mnemoc>
if it boots android, something else is wrong
<ZaEarl>
can't tell much more than that, since using sd card removes my serial port capabilities
<mnemoc>
convert both to .fex and diff them
<ZaEarl>
so I've got two script.bins, one works one doesn't, basically I need to diff/bisect find what works and what doesn't
<mnemoc>
you might also want to test copying your linux uImage to nanda and then, from the serial console, tell uboot to use that one once
<ZaEarl>
hmm, maybe
<mnemoc>
it's not perfect, but it will let you see things
