<mnemoc> the sun4i fbcon patch applied nicely over sun5i's :)
<RaYmAn> nice
<RaYmAn> works as well?
<mnemoc> don't know :p
<RaYmAn> lol
<mnemoc> but it should
<RaYmAn> I need to figure out how to fix lcd output with that kernel
<mnemoc> -v

<mnemoc> RaYmAn: got a nice penguin on the corner of the VGA of my olinuxino :)
<RaYmAn> cool
<mnemoc> and `setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty1 loglevel=${loglevel} earlyprintk` showed the panic text there too \o/

<RaYmAn> nice
<mnemoc> techn_: congratulations! your fbcon works on a13 too without any change :)
<mnemoc> the failure to find nandc is kind of disturbing, but I'll enjoy the moment and commit/tag
<RaYmAn> failure to find?
<RaYmAn> nandc doesn't have a filesystem, so unless it's u-boot complaining
<mnemoc> stock uboot's root=/dev/nandc is passed, but "VFS: Cannot open root device"
<RaYmAn> ok, nandc usually doesn't have a filesystem :P
<mnemoc> oh
<RaYmAn> with android stuff
<RaYmAn> it's a boot.img
<mnemoc> that can explain the trouble then :p
<mnemoc> my 7" VGA hates the olinuxino's output.... just blinks
<RaYmAn> lol
<mnemoc> while 24" at 800x600 is... funky
<Mazon> afaik, the vga is broken for now ?
<RaYmAn> looking forward to see how my 24" monitor handles it
<RaYmAn> :S
<mnemoc> not totally broken
<mnemoc> on my 7" it doesn't sync at all... but on my 24" fbcon (with penguin) looks as expected. android on the other hand shows insane gothic colors
<mnemoc> not sure if it's hw, sw or script.bin problem
<Mazon> according to the blog, hw ?
<Mazon> "Our major problem remain the video, A13-OLinuXino works fine with LCD but we still can’t set the video controller to generate decent VGA output. We spent over a week trying to identify and fix the problems without much success."
<mnemoc> i wanted to buy one of tsvetan's LCD panels... but he totally ignored me :<
<Mazon> heh
<mnemoc> Mazon: from that quote I can't see a direct blame to hw
<Mazon> well, it somewhere in between ... it MIGHT work with the proper config - but no one knows, not even allwinner it seems
<mnemoc> A13 was never intended to use VGA
<Mazon> idd
<mnemoc> in previous replies I got forwarded from him they state and re-state that it's a chip of tablets
<mnemoc> for*
<mnemoc> so more than a "allwinner doesn't know" it feels likee "allwinner doesn't care"
<mnemoc> use it as intended (tablet, reference design, android, gpl-violating kernel/bootloader, allwinner SDK) or your are on your own.

* rzk just had interesting talk with guys who did software for orange sandiego
<rm> huh
<rm> it better cost sub-$30
<rm> (256 MB of RAM)
<mnemoc> i says 35E, not sub-$30
<rzk> :/
<rzk> now marketing crap is from olimex too, what the hell "we found we can overclock up to 1.2-1.5Ghz" is doing there?
<rzk> they sell chinese tablets or devboards?
<traeak> youch only 256?
<rm> right, I missed that it already mentions the price
<rm> Kb Mem: 317452 total
<rm> on a 512MB device
<mnemoc> rm: he assume the gpu and vpu are going to be disabled I think
<rm> about 200 MB taken up by Mali/etc
<lkcl> popolon: we need non-gpl-violating SoC vendors to work with. rockchip aren't entirely "getting it"
<traeak> yeah the mali is apig
<popolon> is there at least one ?
<mnemoc> popolon: at least one what?
<popolon> Soc vendor that doesn't violate gpl ?
<popolon> well I already hear about the rockchip case
<popolon> don't hear about other
<popolon> so * - Rockchip ?
<techn_> mnemoc: great to hear that :)
<techn_> I checked differences with sun345i video drivers.. seems that 5 is almost same as 4, but 3 is much harder to combine..if that "sel" loop could be removed, combining could be much easyer
<techn_> easier
<mnemoc> so we first combine sun4i and sun5i and then try to get rid of the `sel` loops?
<mnemoc> sun3i can only be compared with sun4i when looking at 2.6.36 sources
<mnemoc> diffing them in 3.x is much harder as sun4i have evolved since then
<techn_> btw. which device uses sun3i?
<mnemoc> the only sun3i I know of is called "boxchip f20"
<mnemoc> some people in france and russia have tablets with it.... but I've never seen one personally
<mnemoc> or found how to buy one
<techn_> mali released new drivers yesterday (r3p1-01rel0)
<techn_> will hippoi deliver those closed source stuff to us? :)
<mnemoc> he made libs for r3p0
<traeak> ouch
<traeak> the dual cortex a9 1gb 7" tablet with ips screen for ~120USD is a screaming deal...prices sure coming down
<traeak> and no one is open :(

<hno> hope to find a couple of hours for A13 tonight.
<mnemoc> I really hoped to see news about a a10-olinuxino/1GB *before* that a13/256 without axp20x
popolon has joined #arm-netbook
<mnemoc> really wonder if it will work
<mnemoc> s/really/I/
<ibot> mnemoc meant: I wonder if it will work
<mnemoc> I understand the value of a module without connectors to mount on custom boards... but shrinking the ram to 256? .. uhm
<hno> it will work. Well, not for android or anything needing to use Allwinner standard suspend code without modifications, but as a small Linux board with plenty of GPIO it will do just fine.
<hno> but I would move VGA to a optional addon board plugging into the LCD connector.
<mnemoc> indeed
<jelly-home> LCD is digital? So the board would have the DAC and things
<hno> you can see how the VGA part is done there.
* jelly-home curses kde people reducing the okular zoom limit to just 400%
<specing> ZATHURA
<specing> is the best pdf reader :)
<jelly-home> hno: a resistor ladder DAC! I had an audio card with those on the LPT port on a PC once
<hno> jelly-home, yes, we were the first to write LPT MOD players on PC...
<mnemoc> he uses 3 of these http://www.ti.com/product/sn74alvc244
<jelly-home> 32k irqs per second baby
<jelly-home> I figured it was some kind of a register block
* jelly-home is not a hw person
<hno> It's not registers, just line drivers to provide the right current and short protection, and disable capability.
<jelly-home> actually 6 of those, two per each RGB channel
<jelly-home> or I'm just misled by the drawing
<mnemoc> maybe each chip comes with 2?
<jelly-home> yeah
<mnemoc> I can't read what the actual chips say, but I can asure you they are only 3 :)
<jelly-home> "organized as two 4-bit line drivers"
<jelly-home> switch off lower 4 bits for instant 4096 palette
<hno> I think they uses another driver chip with 6 channels.
<hno> Ah, right those chips are 8 bit each (2x4) so it's probably the same. 2 bits unused.
<hno> there is only 6 bit color per channel.
<mnemoc> it seems the chip says VA244 98K^(G4) CN6K
<jelly-home> we have 10bit HDTV anime these days :-|
<hno> A13 is a bit stripped down, only designed for cheap LCD panels.
<hno> A10 on the other hand have 2 x 24-bit LCD interfaces, HDMI, VGA, and component output..
<techn_> mnemoc: where did you get that 7" display with hdmi?
<techn_> and how much it did cost.. currently I have to share my dev display, and it slows things down :(
<mnemoc> techn_: from chinavasion.com ... it has vga, rca and hdmi
<mnemoc> it was 100E back then...
<techn_> ah.. I was hoping something like sub 60e
<mnemoc> if you find one sub-60e, please let me know :)
<techn_> pixmania sold 15" widescreen for 100e
<techn_> could be even cheaper in other countries
<mnemoc> 15" is too large for a dev display... desk space is precious
<techn_> yep :)
<techn_> + 15" is too small for real use
eFfeM has joined #arm-netbook
<mnemoc> therefore, useless screen size
<traeak> heh
<traeak> need place to stack hardware, plastic water bottles, other computers
* mnemoc currently has two 1.5 liter water bottles standing over his 2xSATA raid device
<mnemoc> damn... my desk looks disgusting :<
<hno> mine is almost clean, feels uncomfortable.
<mnemoc> :D
tzafrir_laptop has joined #arm-netbook
<hno> Nice, figured out how to bitbang the JTAG adapter allowing me to reset the board and allow it to boot from SD. No need to pull cables and push reset button manually any more.
