azonenberg: RE: your tweet about power supplies earlier
<reportingsjr>
azonenberg: the EEZ H24005 (open source PSU that crowd supply did a run of earlier this year) almooosstt meets your requirements.
<azonenberg>
?
<reportingsjr>
azonenberg: it is ~2U tall (90mm), not rack mountable though (although fabbing this probably wouldn't be terribly difficult). Unfortunately its two channels max out at 40V rather than 48V, but you can set it up via software to connect the two outputs and get 80V @ 5A.
<reportingsjr>
So really it is one 80V @ 5A output in 2U.
<reportingsjr>
It sounds like the next run will likely be around $500 per supply probably including shipping.
<azonenberg>
Interesting, i really want something with a production-ready rack kit etc if possible
<azonenberg>
and i need it soon
<azonenberg>
also, does it have ethernet?
<reportingsjr>
ahh, nvm then
<reportingsjr>
yes it has ethernet
<azonenberg>
Looks like it does
<reportingsjr>
People have been fawning over it lately (I got the last one available after Bunnie Huang said it was amazing). I'll let you know how it is when I get mine. That way if you want an open source power supply in the future you might go look for it. :)
<azonenberg>
Yeah i might get it for fun but i'm not sure i'd trust a $1K fpga devkit to something like that
<azonenberg>
not without a LOT more third party testing etc
<reportingsjr>
yeah, we'll see
<reportingsjr>
It looks pretty damn good
<azonenberg>
yeah it does

reportingsjr: Is that the power supply with the hideous LCD?
<cyrozap>
Hmm, maybe it's just the UI design and not a fault of the LCD module they're using, but it's still horrible--a monochrome display would have looked better. Good thing it's OSHW/FOSS!

hi nikitakit
<nikitakit>
hey
<rqou>
azonenberg, awygle: here's the "other recruit" i might have mentioned who might be interested in place and route algorithms
<rqou>
nikitakit: basically azonenberg is the one who originally began this particular channel and collection of projects
<rqou>
awygle is the person who also went to berkeley and is currently working on a place and route of some kind
<rqou>
anyways, i'm downloading it now even though i probably don't have any idea what to do with this data

cyrozap: I'm not horribly picky about it being a work of art.
<reportingsjr>
It is fairly small, efficient, and seems to be a rock solid design. It will be a big upgrade from my ancient HP linear supplies.
<reportingsjr>
Plus the price was definitely right. Only $450 including the shipping.
<rqou>
offtopic: accounting/finance would be much less confusing if everything were strongly-typed
<pie_>
rqou, yes.
