<Openbot> i wonder why evil dragon mentioned the n900 to compare the keyboard
<Openbot> i am using a 500 mah charger now
<DocScrutinizer05> no idea. didn't even see that
<Openbot> is it bad
<Openbot> also my battrey is bl 4 c t
<Openbot> :p
<Openbot> i used a piece of paper folded to hold it properly
<DocScrutinizer05> 500mA (without h) - well, yes, that might result in problems since the N900 needs at least 1A, during first ~30min of charging a largely empty battery. After that it goes down to <500mA (unless you also have backlight on etc)
<Openbot> ya right the phone does not charge or rather dies
<Openbot> i charge in off mode now
<DocScrutinizer05> depending on charger, you may see complete failure of charging (unlikely), overheating of charger (even more unlikely), or warnings about "power not good" or sth, which you might ignore more or less
<Openbot> takes long but works
<Openbot> he he
<Openbot> any way this 800mah batrey is perfoming better than my stock one so definately stock has gone south
<Openbot> anyway i got belief premium 1500 mah in stock
<Openbot> just using the bl4ct as its lying unused
<Openbot> on the charger buying should i get a 1A or more
<Openbot> i see there are 2a chargers on the store
<Openbot> maybe 12A could put an end to those nasty banners
<Openbot> ah its 1.2 a
<DocScrutinizer05> everything >= 1A should work just fine
<Openbot> ok
<DocScrutinizer05> doesn't matter if it's 1.0A, 1.2A or even 2A or 4A
<Openbot> why on earth is that
<Openbot> isint 1.2 a more current than 1A
<DocScrutinizer05> because it's not the charger limiting the Amperes (at least as long as the charger is up to the task)
<Openbot> protective circutiry in n900 i guess
Kabouik has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> when you have a 16A fuse for your outlet, that doesn't mean a TV needing only 1A would explode. The fuse is not to determine the Amperes, in case of fuse it's there to limit the *max+ Amperes you can draw
<Openbot> kabouik ??
<Kabouik> Nice to meet you, Openbot.
<Openbot> kabouik thanx
<DocScrutinizer05> a car battery is rated 1000A or somesuch, usually, so it can provide the up to 600A the starter needs. That however doesn't mean the battery is not suited for a tiny light that only needs 100mA
<Openbot> humm
<Openbot> i go reading
<Openbot> any intresting reference material if you prefer to link
<Openbot> thanx
Openbot has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<DocScrutinizer05> when a water tap (often you actually see this on fire brigade hydrant) is rated 500L/min that doesn't mean you could not have a tap attached and open that tap only a tiny bit to get 1L/min of water flow
Openbot has joined #neo900
<Openbot> resistance
<DocScrutinizer05> it's generally not the rating of the source that determines how much a consumer will draw from that source. Generally the source shall have a considerably higher sourcing capability that the maximum rating (aka max demand) of the consumer
<Openbot> oh yeah
<DocScrutinizer05> s/that the/than the/
trx has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<DocScrutinizer05> for charging that means that for a consumer that needs 850mA you should use a power source that provides at least 1A... or more
<Openbot> so how much current the n900 neo900 could handle without damage
<DocScrutinizer05> as much as it pulls
<DocScrutinizer05> the question itself seems to indicate you still fail to understand that N900 determines the current, not the charger
<Openbot> na i got that clear as water
<DocScrutinizer05> the N900 *needs* at least 850+mA, so a power supply of *at least* 1A is recommended
<Openbot> i ask if wrong charger with more voltage ma gets used
<DocScrutinizer05> there's no known mode of operation where current would destroy the N900
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry?
<DocScrutinizer05> the voltage must be 5Volt
<DocScrutinizer05> no less, no more
<Openbot> yeah i asked that
<DocScrutinizer05> +maybe* a 5.2V for compensating loss in cable
<bencoh> voltage != current
<Openbot> voltage and current are diff bencoh
<bencoh> (I'm sure you know this, but ... you were asking about current first)
<Openbot> yah
<Openbot> mixups
<DocScrutinizer05> ! means NOT
<DocScrutinizer05> != is "not equal"
<Openbot> err
<Openbot> that seemed a exclamation mark to me :p
<DocScrutinizer05> 'voltage != current' => 'voltage NOT-EQUAL current'
<bencoh> :)
<Openbot> doc your 5.2 volt might apply to me
<DocScrutinizer05> hat#s all fine
<DocScrutinizer05> that's
<Openbot> wait i post a pic of my current charger
<DocScrutinizer05> not needed
<Openbot> you ll get it
<bencoh> it's most probably a 5V charger
<DocScrutinizer05> probably a USB charger. They *all* are supposed to be 5V (+/- a few percent)
vakkov has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> a 500mA charger also probably will fail for N900 simply due to the missing short between D+ and D- line, which afaik is meant to indicate chargers that can deliver 1A minimum
<Openbot> photo taken
<DocScrutinizer05> (missing short) so a 500mA charger shouldn't have that short anyway, and N900 needs that short to detect proper charger and even *start* charging
<DocScrutinizer05> fast charging that is
<DocScrutinizer05> so odds are your N900 will charge at 100mA from your 500mA charger
<DocScrutinizer05> the usualy message/notification you see then is sth like "power insufficient for charging!" (yellow notifier)
<DocScrutinizer05> or N900 not even starting to charge at all, I'm not all sure what it actually does
<Openbot> humm where i upload the photo
<DocScrutinizer05> wstaw.org?
<Openbot> chking
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry, busy + afk
<Openbot> uii some funky lang
<Openbot> lets blindly navigate
<Openbot> something is happening
<Openbot> i.e loading bar going back and fourth back and fourth and back and.....
<Openbot> donee
<Openbot> bencoh chk
<bencoh> ?

<bencoh> eww
<Openbot> yeah
<Openbot> thats my state of the charger as i yet to have organise my room properly
<Openbot> at least it reaches my bed
<Openbot> bye

<DocScrutinizer05> Oksana: >> - Council should write email to Jaffa (nearly the only member of HiFo Board who is currently in USA) and Rob (co-founder of HiFo), to convince them to fill in the required paperwork to transfer from HiFo to MCeV.<< ROB????? I guess you missed a few fundamental facts
jonsger has quit [Quit: jonsger]
<Oksana> Thank you. Could you please elaborate on that? Because communication from HiFo is so rare that I do not even recall who are the members of HiFo Board, exactly...
<DocScrutinizer05> Rob at least isn't
<DocScrutinizer05> he been the guy who drove HiFo into a limbo
<Oksana> And I am much less likely to remember who took part in establishing HiFo
<DocScrutinizer05> and he handed over *all* HiFo "tools" to the current(?) members, who are Jaffa, Ryan Abel, and some more guys, prolly win7mak and chemist but i'm not sure
<DocScrutinizer05> at least afaik
<DocScrutinizer05> but afaik an election of HiFo is overdue since several months also, unless such election happened without me even noticing
<Oksana> chemist is not in USA, right? And neither is Win7Mac? So it would be difficult for them to do court-things-whatever for HiFo-to-MCeV transfer?
Pali has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<DocScrutinizer05> right
<DocScrutinizer05> at least on that I'm sure
<Oksana> The election is being delayed with hope that HiFo transfer to MCeV will make election of HiFo Board completely unnecessary. And election of MCeV Board did happen, on GA meeting.
<DocScrutinizer05> tbh I'm not surprised that Jaffa and GeneralAntilles (aka Ryan) don't communicate any more. I guess they draw same conclusion as I did
<Oksana> :?
<DocScrutinizer05> :-X
* DocScrutinizer05 is out
<Oksana> Jaffa was replying, several times, telling lets wait and being busy?.. The wait could be over soon?
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry I even mentioned it. I'm not inclined to continue this discussion
<DocScrutinizer05> just wondering why maemo council discusses Neo900 topics on meetings
<Oksana> It's off-topic. Partially because there is not much to discuss?
<Oksana> Like weather, and the like... Not something Council can change
<DocScrutinizer05> well, so let me add to the gossip, which is even more on topic in this channel ;-) You'll see first signs of webshop opening during next few hours: "DONATION" button will vanish, get renamed, or point to a "under construction" page, or any combination of the former
<Oksana> :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> so no "donations" (aka 'old payment scheme') come in while we already prepared vouchers to switch to new payment scheme aka webshop
<Oksana> Okay ;-) Hoping webshop is coming soon.
<DocScrutinizer05> me too :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> it's incredibly more complex than anybody would have anticipated to set up such cheesy webshop
<DocScrutinizer05> and it extends its tentacles of impact to other places as well: e.g. FAQ and frontpage "DONATION" and site-wide navigation, and...
<DocScrutinizer05> impressum
<DocScrutinizer05> my rax advisers
<DocScrutinizer05> tax*
<specing> neo900: one engineer and five tax advisers
<DocScrutinizer05> well, almost. That's business and I really don't like it
<DocScrutinizer05> but in a country as mad as Germany when it comes to laws and taxes, you actually need that
