when we would add two 0.08 steel sheets (rather thin, too thin actually) for walls and guidance, that would leave a 0.6mm for card thickness. I think that's too thin

and those steel sheets would introduce issues with shorts on components, so we need capton or similar plastic fil for isolation on top -> even less for card thickness

Okay, so it's steel-sheets-with-plastic-film for walls and guidance, or flimsy plastic card . Given all the risks, it's better to not have the slot cut in spacer for it, but rather insert it carefully (if ever) seeing well what's happening.
