<Oksana> Is LTE better or worse than 3G? Because there are rumors that operators will close their 3G networks before they close 2G. And with 2G coverage being patchy... /I am hoping that LTE is less power-consuming than 3G, though it's probably unrealistic/

<tamhu> thanks in advance
<ddark> wait till the shop goes up, and order from there. I think that dos1 will fix it soon.

<DocScrutinizer05> dos1 thought it's a great idea to install nginx for the shop immediately while we sent out the shop opening mail. I asked him to rollback such last minute changes, which it seems also failed
<DocScrutinizer05> so here we are
<DocScrutinizer05> server reboot fails to bring up http service
<DocScrutinizer05> it's a shame
<jonsger> why do you need http for the shop when https works?
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry, what works?
<DocScrutinizer05> ooh, it's back
<DocScrutinizer05> well, we had auto-forward from http to https during last 2 weeks
<DocScrutinizer05> and just even https was defect

<DocScrutinizer05> here you are, whatever that means http://privatepaste.com/36f2724493
<DocScrutinizer05> anyway sorry, I have an urgent appointment
<DocScrutinizer05> bbl
<dos1> that means that old OOM hack that was still necessary thanks to config rollback kicked in and failed to restart apache for some reason ("Address already in use", probably sockets just didn't close properly)
<ddark> why not to use clean nginx with php-fpm ? apache with nginx proxy is always PITA.
<dos1> there's no nginx as a proxy; I wanted to do exactly what you say, but right now we're stuck in "http handled by nginx, https handled by apache"
<dos1> and turns out bringing up servers from reboot automatically was broken for past two weeks ;p fixed
<DocScrutinizer05> because exactly that been tested for two weeks and we won't roll a new untested config exactly the day the shop opens
<bencoh> dos1: do you mean you're using apache as a https->http proxy ?
<DocScrutinizer05> first batch of vouchers sent out 3 weeks ago, since then (and even before) we had time to change in http service whatever we want, to prepare for the great opening. Yesterday we finally got the shop link on frontpage thanks to wpwrak and we sent out the newsletter, and on THAT day we do NOT change config
<bencoh> or does apache serve everything and nginx just redirects http to https ?
<DocScrutinizer05> bencoh: there's no use at all in discussing this right now. what's running now I *guess* is not what dos1 wants to have running, but I *hope* it's the same we tested for 3 weeks now
<bencoh> gotcha
<dos1> what's running now (and was before I went to sleep) is exactly what was running after the slashdot post happened
<DocScrutinizer05> which worked
<DocScrutinizer05> except for today, after rollback
<dos1> if you mean, "worked when controlled by hacky restarting script, constant manual overseeing and then low traffic", then yes
<dos1> what failed today was apache - and guess what? nothing changed in its config. new config was all about getting rid of it
<DocScrutinizer05> yes, that's exactly what we tesated since 3 weeks, to prepare fpor today
<DocScrutinizer05> you simply don't grok that such changes are a nogo for the rollout day, eh?
<dos1> yes, so when from all three "hacky restarting script" was the only one that remained, the changes of failure were high
<dos1> I understand that; but you fail to understand that after all there were no changes
<dos1> old config is what failed; new config was there to prevent that
<DocScrutinizer05> the old config worked great during 3 weeks
<dos1> so?
<DocScrutinizer05> an d you had 3 weeks time to fix it when you're not happy with it
<dos1> yes, that's valid point
<DocScrutinizer05> but NOT YESTERDAY
<dos1> anyway, this failure was unrelated to any yesterday's config change, so stop jumping to conclusions. that's all.
<DocScrutinizer05> when there wasn't a massive change forth and back in config yesterday, it would be easier to not do conclusions

<DocScrutinizer05> the latter ones worry me
<DocScrutinizer05> maybe they still ponder which variant of modem they want?
<DocScrutinizer05> or they simply missed to complete their order

<bencoh> hmm
<DocScrutinizer05> when you qualified for one, you'll get it. Please contact us. so sorry, maybe we actually forgot to send out the individual mails to you 5 guys who ordered a prototype - my fault
<bencoh> I guess the prototype doesnt count as a board then
<DocScrutinizer05> the prototype doesn't count as a board
<bencoh> okay :)
<DocScrutinizer05> varu|zZz: did you receive your voucher?
<varu|zZz> yup, pretty sure i did
<DocScrutinizer05> good! (pheew)
<varu|zZz> nice part about it is all the donation screwups i made in the beginning got concatenated with this occasion :)
<DocScrutinizer05> that bneen our main work during last weeks
<DocScrutinizer05> sort out all the donations and what they actually meant
<varu|zZz> ok, so i'll need to do a preorder with my voucher then?
<DocScrutinizer05> varu|zZz: for now just order the generic product you want, add a note "PLUS PROTOTYPE" and receive a new voucher for the remaining funds that you keep for now
<DocScrutinizer05> please
<varu|zZz> ok
<DocScrutinizer05> :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> helps us with book keeping
<DocScrutinizer05> let me check if a have a checkmark in our prototype column for you
<paulk-collins> so... we can't buy dresses anymore?
<DocScrutinizer05> alas nope, they are out ;-)
<varu|zZz> so from the store, i take the 'down payment for neo900 complete device', and add 'plus prototype' in the comment
<paulk-collins> heh :)
<DocScrutinizer05> varu|zZz: exactly
<bencoh> dresses ?
<DocScrutinizer05> you'll add your voucher code and you receive a new voucher which you keep for now

<norly> DocScrutinizer05: any news on the CDMA capable PXS8? could it use more energy or something?
<DocScrutinizer05> (PXA8) no special data on it, but don't expect anything unusual. Why would it use more energy when it doesn't run on CDMA2000 and TDM concurrently
<norly> idk
<norly> there'
<norly> there's a note on the ordering page stating that it hasn't been evaluated yet
<DocScrutinizer05> aiui the PXS8 can do *either* CDMA2000 *or* UMTS, but not both at same time
<DocScrutinizer05> yes, we don't have one in our hands yet
<norly> well, as long as it doesn't use more energy "just because the other hardware is idling along", it's ok
<DocScrutinizer05> and even when we did, we can't really test CDMA2000 here in Europe
<norly> true
<norly> i guess i'll just order one and cross my fingers
<DocScrutinizer05> good plan, I don't expect any adverse effects except higher price
<norly> while i'm primarily looking for a GSM device, the idea is that i might as well get as much out of that investment as i can ;)
<DocScrutinizer05> :-))
<norly> any guess on the price difference?
<DocScrutinizer05> no
<DocScrutinizer05> but for a ballpark figure, the PLS8 is about 1.5 times PHS8
<DocScrutinizer05> I.E. 70 vs 110 or sth
<DocScrutinizer05> I * PXS8 will be like PLS8guess*
<DocScrutinizer05> huh? I *guess*
<DocScrutinizer05> (sis I hit ctrl-backspace instead of shift-* ?)
<DocScrutinizer05> did*
<norly> oh that's okay
<norly> given the overall price...

<norly> when i click "save" it reloads the page with the selected modem option and keyboard selection text, but without my customization instructions
<norly> how can i enter them?
<norly> ah, sorted. there is a maximum text length limit there
<norly> but it's not advertised anywhere
<DocScrutinizer05> that's a flaw we didn't realize yet

<DocScrutinizer05> feels like drilling the holes into swiss cheese
<DocScrutinizer05> norly: could you give a (rough) estimation on how many chars the limit kicks in?
<norly> i can try to get the exact number...
<DocScrutinizer05> ballpark number suffices
<norly> 216 chars work
<DocScrutinizer05> ok
<DocScrutinizer05> that's still a lot
<DocScrutinizer05> I originally planned for 2 or 3 (can't recall) text input fields for customaztion, but Werner asked what's the use and had concerns that it's puzzling users ;-)
<norly> 249 chars work, 250 don't
<DocScrutinizer05> since I didn't know any numbers for upper limit of chars per field, I had zilch good arguments why we should keep two of them fields
<norly> well, i couldn't fit my short story in there so it's definitely not enough!
<DocScrutinizer05> :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> gzip it ;-)
<norly> however i did shorten it a bit and put the second part into the general order instructions
