<DocScrutinizer05> [2015-06-15 Mon 07:25:21] <DocScrutinizer05> it's a tad sad that many people actually do care about FOSS and privacy but have no clue a thus jump to conclusions. And FSF doesn't help at all in this regard
<DocScrutinizer05> [2015-06-15 Mon 07:27:55] <DocScrutinizer05> let's relabel "firmware blob" to "configuration and calibration data"
<DocScrutinizer05> (in reply to some user moaning about the "firmware blobs" needed for WLAN et al)
<DocScrutinizer05> [2015-06-11 Thu 14:24:39] <safilmer> PaulFertser: I am aware of the difference. It seems as if 3D acceleration and WLAN both require blobs on the system processor
<DocScrutinizer05> however: [2015-06-11 Thu 14:25:29] <safilmer> (I am ignoring the GSM subsystems because it has it's own firmware running on it's own processor that obviously is non-libre)
<DocScrutinizer05> .oO(?!!!??!!! @.@)
<DocScrutinizer05> which was NOT the case for GTA01
<DocScrutinizer05> ...but applies to modem, WLAN, BT, and a dozen other peripherals like eMMC and sensors and even uSD, for GTA04A5 and Neo900 and also GTA02
<DocScrutinizer05> wpwrak: you probably had a broad field here to elaborate on, for your talk

<Wizzup_> heh, for some firmware it is better to write 'configuration and calibration data'
<Wizzup_> for the 3d accel, not so much
<DocScrutinizer05> for 3D-accel we don't need anything, since we don't *need* 3D accel :-)
<Wizzup_> exactly
<DocScrutinizer05> and actually that's the _only_ application processor blob we _could_ use, I don't know of anything else where such a blob even would exist and was needed
* DocScrutinizer05 idly wonders if all datasheets of peripheral chips with a flash memory for firmware have a note about maximum allowable ionizing radiation exposure

<wpwrak> there also seems to be room for a decent lead-acid battery. goodbye, puny li-whatever :)
<DocScrutinizer05> that's nasty. However I seen it before, seem to recall you can change between orange and green display in game
<DocScrutinizer05> silly

<Oksana> Dual-SIM seems to be in fashion, currently ;-) So don't forget to mention it, even if people do not ask (after all, N900 had only one SIM slot, so they wouldn't expect Neo900 to be different, unless reading carefully into specifications)
