<beni> hi, does someone know the dimensions of the neo900 device?
<DocScrutinizer05> sure
<DocScrutinizer05> it's exactly the dimensions of N900, except for height which is 2.8mm higher
<DocScrutinizer05> see spacerframe
<beni> so ~20 mm right?
<DocScrutinizer05> ~spacerframe
<infobot> it has been said that spacerframe is an additional rim that extends the N900 case by 2.8mm, see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1379875 and http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=94191
<DocScrutinizer05> >>The spacerframe will increase thickness by ~14%, from 19mm to 21.8mm<<
<beni> yeah, ok
<DocScrutinizer05> :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> for very precise dimensions see "resources" -> "scans"
<DocScrutinizer05> (without spacerframe yet)
<DocScrutinizer05> beni: what for do you need the exact dimensions?
<beni> DocScrutinizer05, dimension influences the buying decision ;)
<DocScrutinizer05> :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> take the weight with a grain of salt, iirc it might be off
<DocScrutinizer05> or maybe not. I have no scales to check
<beni> what is the release date?
<DocScrutinizer05> we *hope* for end of year. but like always in industry: it's ready when it's ready ;-)
<beni> yes, sure
<DocScrutinizer05> end of year is a very optimistic estimation, I probably shouldn't say such stuff
<beni> :D
<DocScrutinizer05> we *could* do e.o.y. when not *everything* takes 3 times the time anybody sane in his mind would estimate it may take
<DocScrutinizer05> e.g. Nikolaus hoped to finish (workload with) dragonbox pyra end of last year and then assign almost fultime to this project. Pyra still keeps him busy
<DocScrutinizer05> meanwhile I "wasted" almost 2 months for a silly prestashop webshop which is an administration nightmare like errr windows2.0
<DocScrutinizer05> you'd think putting up a webshop might be a matter of maybe 3 days
<DocScrutinizer05> maybe a week
<DocScrutinizer05> I tell you it's not
<beni> hehe :)
<DocScrutinizer05> now that the webshop finally somewhat works like expected, PayPal acts up
<DocScrutinizer05> I have around 7 18h work days per week, doing zilch EE R&D for the last 2 months
<DocScrutinizer05> at least I managed to secure N900 devices and the unobtainium 1GB RAM chips everybody said would be a MUST HAVE for Neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> and we're basically ready to start building our next prototype, as soon as we find a timeslot to actually DO it
<beni> what's the status of the hardware? just fine tuning?
<DocScrutinizer05> that's a tad difficult to answer in 2 sentences. I'll try never theless
<DocScrutinizer05> we will use the proven-to-work CPU-core design of N900/GTA04/BeagleBoard, so that's considered "finished". The new peripherals we attach, from modem to hygrometer, are finalized in paper and we don't expect more than the usual little hickups in that part of the design
norly has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> next steps needed: the great integration of both halfs on paper, then separate it again for proto_v2 which for economic reasons will not use an embedded SoC (CPU-core) but instead plug the "sensors-only" prototype board to a BB-xM as "external brain"
<DocScrutinizer05> we already tested the 1GB RAM PoP chips on pimped BB-xM
<DocScrutinizer05> so that works too
<DocScrutinizer05> what still needs testing is our very unique versatile NFC solution
<DocScrutinizer05> we'll do that during Proto_v2
<beni> okay, that's still a bit of work :)
<DocScrutinizer05> I don't expect much headache from that either. Werner did a hell of a job in our very fine NFC whitepaper
<DocScrutinizer05> I'd personally say he sets new standards for NFC R&D with this whitepaper - quite worth giving it a read, even when you're only interested in NFC at large and not at all in Neo900

<DocScrutinizer05> slightly OT: see http://events.ccc.de/2015/02/10/chaos-communication-camp-2015-save-the-date/ - Neo900 will probably have a village where we can meet and discuss
<bencoh> a village ?
<bencoh> there are so many people interested ?
<DocScrutinizer05> hmm? I hope there will be people interested, but to have a village, it needs only 3 or 4 people
<DocScrutinizer05> a village means a "public" tent
<DocScrutinizer05> we'll offer seats, beer, and discussions. And an occasional lightning talk by Werner
<bencoh> I thought it was "bigger" than that
<wpwrak> several inns, a market square, bakery, butchery, blacksmith, a small castle for the count, ...
<wpwrak> oh. and of course the breweries. all five of them.
<DocScrutinizer05> I don't need a whole castle ;-)
<wpwrak> you'll need room for the dungeons :)
<DocScrutinizer05> aaah right

<wpwrak> (cars) yeah, may be useful if i get stranded on the way. not sure how failure-proof the connections outside berlin are. i.e., if my plane is delayed or such.
<wpwrak> ooops

<bencoh> :D
<DocScrutinizer05> sure thing: when you'd need PP the most, they lock your account
<cnj-> That's my understanding of how they work.

<DocScrutinizer05> Oksana: I just heard I need to convince you to join http://events.ccc.de/2015/02/10/chaos-communication-camp-2015-save-the-date/ :-)

<DocScrutinizer05> what else than https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Chaos+Communication+Camp+2011&search_type=&aq=f could I offer to talk you into joining?
<DocScrutinizer05> maybe "when you miss that one, you need to wait 4 years for next one"
<x29a> DocScrutinizer05: will you be at "the camp"?
<DocScrutinizer05> sure
<x29a> maybe i should go as well
<DocScrutinizer05> we even will have a tiny simple Neo900 vilage. At least beer and chillout
<x29a> i dont care for booze, i want hw!
<Oksana> August 13th through 17th, 2015... The date is too close!
* Oksana agrees with not caring for drinks
<DocScrutinizer05> hehe, I'll bring a 20 N900 and the one proto_v1 I have here
<DocScrutinizer05> also a few 1GB chips
<DocScrutinizer05> Oksana: too close? heck, you could *walk* and be there in time ;-)
<x29a> mjam, microchips *crunch*
<Oksana> DocScrutinizer: Find a natural-convection-heat-transfer-related conference, which happens in Germany in August, and still accepts submission of Abstracts... Then, two birds with one stone, I might be able to go ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> Svetlana told me she'll join only when you join too. So it seems I have to insist :-D
<DocScrutinizer05> Oksana: convection, heat transfer? you probably can study that live on cccamp ;)
<Oksana> Conference! So that we would be able to explain to Uni why we are going ;-) Or, research-experience-exchange program between a local Uni and our UNSW
<paulk-collins> DocScrutinizer05, who elese is going to be there? people from GD?
<DocScrutinizer05> err, at least Sebastian aka dos1
<paulk-collins> m'kay
<DocScrutinizer05> and werner
<paulk-collins> I should look into it, maybe I'll come by for a few days
<DocScrutinizer05> :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> I guess Nikolaus won't join. Though I didn't ask yet
<paulk-collins> really I'm just doubtful about being able to get any work done
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah, planning is quite a pain on those camps, usually too many interesting stuff happening concurrently
<paulk-collins> okay time to go, thanks for the reminder about CCCamp
<DocScrutinizer05> yw :-)
paulk-collins has quit [Quit: Quitte]
<DocScrutinizer05> had that on my calendar since 4 years, and still almost forgot about it
<DocScrutinizer05> while it's such a great place to do a bit of PR for Neo900
<Oksana> For example: 15th European Turbulence Conference 2015: August 25-28th, 2015, Delft, The Netherlands. Entirely on topic, but: Deadline for abstract submissions: January 12th, 2015 :-(
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah, alas it's also too late for submissions to cccamp15
<DocScrutinizer05> we'll try to get a slot nevertheless
<Oksana> :-)
<Oksana> Are there any dates for 2019 event? I will add it to Calendar ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> well, 2019, yes
<DocScrutinizer05> also most likely August
<Oksana> Okay, so in 2018 I will hound opportunities to visit Germany in August2019 ;-)
<Oksana> Will it be Step2, or something else, by then, in your slot?
<DocScrutinizer05> likely STEP2
<DocScrutinizer05> though, nah. That should be finished by then
* Oksana thinks so, too
<DocScrutinizer05> might be the Neo SUNglasses
<Oksana> I have seen Lumus, I like the idea of HDMI-to-binocular without obstructing the ambient view ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> or a silly old man telling his story how he managed to escape from nuthouse
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah, that's a quite important detail
<Oksana> Though, $15k for a pair... They haven't perfected their manufacturing yet.
<DocScrutinizer05> and I even have a few "patents" for that technology which I haven't seen getting used or just mentioned anywhere yet
<Oksana> Interesting ;-) Also, Nokia has some patents in optics - look for Vuzix
* DocScrutinizer05 needs a decent patent lawyer eventually ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah
