<chainsawbike> lol well kinda, need to go visit my bank to allow international bank transfers first
<DocScrutinizer05> you got plenty of time for that, after completing the order
<DocScrutinizer05> ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> the shop doesn't talk to your bank, it just sends the details per email so you can print them out and show to your bank

<useretail> hey everyone, recently earpiece on my n900 stopped working and wifi settings changed without my knowledge. strange, huh? so i decided to reflash/reset device. so the question is: which option should i use: a) restore original settings; b) clear device; c) reflash vanilla only? do 'clear device' clears emmc as well?

<DocScrutinizer05> useretail: ideally you do y complete reflash
<DocScrutinizer05> ~flashing
<infobot> maemo-flashing is probably http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware, or - on linux PC - download&extract http://maemo.cloud-7.de/maemo5/patches_n_tools/maemo-my-private-workdir.tgz, cd into it, do sudo ./flash-it-all.sh

<useretail> DocScrutinizer05: unfortunately there's too much data on emmc - i don't have free space atm. how to reflash rootfs only?
<DocScrutinizer05> make a backup of eMMC ;-)
<useretail> i can't. i don't have free space
<DocScrutinizer05> ooops, no free space anywhere? No PC?
<DocScrutinizer05> no uSD?
<useretail> nothing. ~1GB on pc left
<DocScrutinizer05> of course you can flash COMBINED only
<Wizzup> useretail: no server to scp to?
<angry_specing> lol, running out of space in 2015...
<angry_specing> useretail: copy to battery backed RAM?
<angry_specing> tmpfs
<DocScrutinizer05> but given you have no backup of your valuable data on eMMC, I'd be *very* reluctant to do *anything* with the device until you got a backup
<useretail> believe it or not both my 8TB NAS'es are out of space too
<useretail> so if reflash fail, i will lost access to emmc?
<DocScrutinizer05> that's a risk you have to ponder, yes
<DocScrutinizer05> generally the eMMC shouldn't suffer any harm from flashing COMBINED, but when you fail to flash the device into a working state, you have no access to eMMC anyway
<DocScrutinizer05> this usually is, but may not, be recoverable
<DocScrutinizer05> you never know
<DocScrutinizer05> keep Murphy in mind! ;-)
<useretail> lol
<DocScrutinizer05> you might for example type the wrong command to flasher-3.5 by mistake
<DocScrutinizer05> N900 is 99.9% unbrickable, but data on N900 is not 100% loss-safe
<angry_specing> this is ARM "fun"
<useretail> damn, now i'm afraid to reflash :D
<DocScrutinizer05> get a 32GB uSD
<DocScrutinizer05> I guess they are ~10 bucks meanwhile
<DocScrutinizer05> or a USB memstick you could attach to your PC
<angry_specing> if only you could attach a SATA HDD to it...
<DocScrutinizer05> you can
<angry_specing> does it even have SATA?
<DocScrutinizer05> with adapter ;-)
<angry_specing> ...
<useretail> i guess i'll have to contribute some of my data to archive.org
<DocScrutinizer05> or use gzip ;-)
<useretail> SATA to N900? sounds cool :D
* DocScrutinizer05 glances at that tiny USB<->(S)ATA adapter over there
<DocScrutinizer05> (TB? with gzip I bet you can recover at *least* 500GB from it
<DocScrutinizer05> 8TB*
<useretail> everything is already archived
* Wizzup has had a 2TB disk attached to his n900
<bencoh> :D
<bencoh> poor thing
<DocScrutinizer05> why? I don't think it suffered from getting attached to N900 ;-)
<Wizzup> indeed
<DocScrutinizer05> for genuine SATA interface you have to wait for STEP2 ;-)
<bencoh> krkr
