DocScrutinizer05 changed the topic of #neo900 to: http://neo900.org | conversations are logged to http://infobot.rikers.org/%23neo900/ and http://irclog.whitequark.org/neo900
<wpwrak> the "other one" would be a green background
<DocScrutinizer05> >>Is it possible to order a Neo900 board with only 1GB of ram hardware upgrade?<< hmmm, errr
<wpwrak> this is what it looks like here: http://neo900.org/stuff/werner/tmp/chromium-cert-info.png
<StevenC99> yellow triangle is only due to mixed content on the page, then. I guess someone is still working on that
<StevenC99> in chromium, ctrl+shift+I (eye) and go into Console tab for a list
<dos1> it should be mostly from static.neo900.org, which is a relict from the past - it is round-robined to bunch of other servers right now, so it can't be changed to https before removing that
<dos1> but yeah, I'll take a deeper look at all this stuff later this week
<dos1> we just swapped the cert from self-signed one yesterday after all :)
<StevenC99> well, thanks! I look forward to using the web shop
<DocScrutinizer05> StevenC99: wait for voucher email, or till next week
<DocScrutinizer05> StevenC99: we are in testing mode this week

<DocScrutinizer05> OK, we sent a email letter like http://neo900.org/shop-letter to each of our 420 donors. When you donated, you should have received one. We also have sent out first 20 voucher code emails and we hope for feedback from those
<DocScrutinizer05> the URL to shop is in the voucher email, to limit the amount of customers that are testing / using the shop. After sending out the last voucher emails (probably next weekend) we will officially publish the webshop URL

<wpwrak> Humpelstilzchen: (wire xfer) implementing the all-or-nothing payment scheme may be very difficult with wire transfers. with credit cards it's easy
<wpwrak> XTaran: i think the issue is that firefox doesn't know the chain from a CA it knows down to us, but that we (our server) could provide that information itself. it just doesn't do it yet.
<Humpelstilzchen> wpwrak: still I won't get a credit card
<XTaran> wpwrak: Indeed, a missing intermediate certificate is a possible reason.
<XTaran> wpwrak: Oh, only credit cards? *sigh*
<XTaran> I'd prefer wire-transfer, too.
<wpwrak> Humpelstilzchen: inside EU, transfers are completely free, aren't they ?
<XTaran> Actually, not sure if wire-transfer is what I know as "Überweisung" in Germany.
<XTaran> wpwrak: Depends on the banks, but it must not be more expensive than national transfers.
<wpwrak> yes, should be "ueberweisung"
<jonsger> Assign an address alias for future reference. * what does this mean
<wpwrak> jonsger: as i understand it, this is for your own use, if you have multiple addresses. e.g., "home", "work", etc.
<wpwrak> in the checkout process, you can then change addresses just by selecting a different one (identified by that name), instead of entering it anew
<wpwrak> a bit of over-engineering :)
<bencoh> designed by engineers, for engineers ;p
<wpwrak> naw, more like, designed by the over-engineer, for himself :)
<bencoh> huhu
<jonsger> wpwrak: thx
<wpwrak> you have no idea how many crazy things we had to hunt down and turn off in that shop
<wpwrak> it's kinda like needing a flashlight and starting with las vegas on a saturday night ...
<jonsger> if I invest 1k LTE would be nice ^^
<XTaran> Hrm, "503 Overloaded" or "You cannot access this store from your country. We apologize for the inconvenience."? The page shows me both. I find especially the latter very disturbing.
<wpwrak> did you try your vpn to north korea ? :)
<XTaran> I get the latter message not only from Switzerland but even for a host in Germany (at Hetzner). WTF? :)
<XTaran> Is this the default 503 text? :)
<XTaran> Will try later again. :)
<wpwrak> seems weird. pretty much all countries under the sun should be allowed ...
<bencoh> wpwrak: do you use the angrysysadmin blacklist (like on tmo) ?
<bencoh> (erm, cant find the accurate name)
<wpwrak> sounds like another little nuisance feature we haven't spotted yet ...
<wpwrak> just a moment ... i'm trying to get joerg's opinion on it. the button to disable the nonsense is right in front of me ;)

<bencoh> kbits ?

<bencoh> erm, actually, bit is puzzling as well, for a memory chip
<jonsger> 262,144 one-bit words. idk what this excactly means
<DocScrutinizer05> that means 256kbit
<DocScrutinizer05> while I don't think it _really_ tells about organization
<DocScrutinizer05> it _suggests_ the chip is organized 256k*1

<DocScrutinizer05> wpwrak: I wonder if we should disable the "customers keep their cart for next login" - it results in an ever growing number of abandoned carts in db
<XTaran> DocScrutinizer05: So the prices currently in the shop are just a down payment and don't reflect the final price?
<DocScrutinizer05> yes
<XTaran> DocScrutinizer05: Ah, found the estimated final price in the FAQ.
<wpwrak> DocScrutinizer05: not sure what side-effects this has. but yes, the number of abandoned carts already rivals your average hypermarket. it's a bit too easy to end up with half a dozen of them ...
<DocScrutinizer05> lemme disable that stuff
<wpwrak> well, in one case it took only five carts until the order actually made it :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> done
<DocScrutinizer05> I doubt it cleans out the abandoned carts from db, but at least I hope for no more new ones
<DocScrutinizer05> seems carts that resulted in an order are an immanent part of the db dat structure anyway - can't get deleted
<DocScrutinizer05> only "non ordered" and "abandoned" could get deleted

<DocScrutinizer05> we solved the issue
<DocScrutinizer05> anyway thanks
<DocScrutinizer05> it just took a small eternity to get the stuff sorted
<DocScrutinizer05> there are addon modules available for prestashop, some for free, some for a XX bucks, some even working as supposed
<DocScrutinizer05> the 420 issue got solved by import-vouchers-from-csv module which iirc was a 30 bucks - much less than it would have cost us when we did something similar ourselves
<DocScrutinizer05> reading through pages and pages of stuff like https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/153495-first-welcome-email-email-too-much-unsecured-info/ day after day
<Humpelstilzchen> sounds like a configurable but complicated
<Humpelstilzchen> shop
<wpwrak> indeed. and the defaults are very different from what we want.
<DocScrutinizer05> and for every default we want to change, we had a discussion if we really want to, and to which other value to change it to. That sometimes takes even more time
<DocScrutinizer05> then you generally don't want to edit the PHP code if any avoidable, since next update of the software would nuke such "fixes"
<DocScrutinizer05> you also generally don't want to edit mysql database directly brute force with mysqladmin or whatever since you don't want to introduce inconsistencies in relational integrity of that critter
<DocScrutinizer05> (changing defaults) before even considering *if* you want to, you need to get aware there _is_ such default you could change
paulk-collins has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<DocScrutinizer05> and the relation between an effect you see and the "option" on prestashop you need to tweak is absolutely non-intuitive at least to me
<DocScrutinizer05> example: we had "(tax incl.)" everywhere. Finally dos1 found out how to get rid of it: in *translation*
<DocScrutinizer05> though jury is yet out on whether that's the right way or a dirty hack we used since we couldn't find the "right way"
paulk-collins has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> and just yesterday I learned from dos1 that "translations" seems to **edit the PHP code**
<DocScrutinizer05> :-o
<DocScrutinizer05> I didn't even dare to have a look into the innards of that prestashop function
<Wizzup> welcome to the wonderful world of php
<DocScrutinizer05> when I checked the web frontend in N900 microB, it suddenly shown all sorts of products and ads for clothes (the theme template we used to base our shop on). Til today nobody found out the root cause why prestashop shows a different webpage for microB than for all other browsers we tested
<DocScrutinizer05> we killed the effect brute force by deleting that stuff from our template completely

The customer should still be able to correct the email address when there's a typo in it, so disabling the account is a bad idea
<DocScrutinizer05> dos1: I tend to give this module a try, however (due to the place where it's integrated into the engine) I'd not want to use it before you audited the code for fishy stuff in it.
