23:31 <wpwrak> many of those stories began with some small innocent mistake that would have been very easy to recover from. they tried to force things, making the situation worse but not hopeless. finally, they did something radical, like deleting and reinstalling LILO and all the files it had created. then they asked for help, typically because they had blown their MBR, including the partition table.
