<qwebirc27384> Hello?
<qwebirc27384> I am here about unbricking my Ben Nanonote
<qwebirc27384> Anyone here?
<wolfspraul> hye
<wolfspraul> hey :-)
<wolfspraul> that was too quick...
<zrafa> wolfspraul: is that nick something known..? I have read that prefix "qwebirc" several times
<wolfspraul> that's from people that come in over freenode's web chat
<wolfspraul> and the url we have in the /webchat redirect it to use an 'auto-nick'
<wolfspraul> you can try :-)
<zrafa> ah.. okey :)
<wolfspraul> maybe we should remove the auto-nick
<wolfspraul> because people have to enter the captcha anyway, they may also enter a nick for themselves
<wolfspraul> but the less they have to enter the better I think
<wolfspraul> well, we try to bring people together, not so easy
<wolfspraul> many of the webchat guys may have never been in an irc group before and don't know the customs
<zrafa> nice... another interesting web for irc chat is http://webchat.freenode.net/ but we need to explain how to join to the channel
<wolfspraul> that's the same
<zrafa> yeah
<zrafa> I do not know which is the panic for that people who say "hello" and then after one minute without answers they run :)
<zrafa> I suppose that something similar with me before to ask mailing list something I do not understand. It takes me several days or weeks before I am confident to ask
<wolfspraul> they just don't know. need to find ways to explain this better, maybe some chat client I install on the Qi server, don't know.
<kyak> jow_lapt1p: thanks! :)
<DocScrutinizer> wolfspraul: aiui freenode forbids "private" irc web gateways
<qwebirc46206> Hello?
<qwebirc46206> I am here about unbricking my Ben Nanonote
<qwebirc46206> this is Cenobyte
<qwebirc46206> I guess I'll wait a while...
<kristianpaul> Hello
<kristianpaul> When your power up yout nanonote you got a message or just blank screen?
<qwebirc46206> blank screen
<kristianpaul> ok do you remenber the rubber thing came within the nanonote box?
<qwebirc46206> ya
<kristianpaul> The idea to follow is first got usb boot mode
<kristianpaul> Then reflash
<kristianpaul> I dont do this all days, so i'm going to follow http://en.qi-hardware.com/wiki/USB_BOOT_mode
<kristianpaul> okay?
<qwebirc46206> i have gone to usb mode or at least tried with power+U key
<qwebirc46206> nothing shows on lsusb
<qwebirc46206> usbboot complains no xburst device found
<kristianpaul> power+U works when you have uboot wich is a software can be damaghe
<kristianpaul> damaged*
<kristianpaul> when this happen you got that blank screen
<kristianpaul> but no panic
<qwebirc46206> ok so the hardware way is fool proof?
<kristianpaul> yes
<qwebirc46206> what if I lost the rubber thing?
<kristianpaul> you can still boot by shorting the usb boot pinds
<kristianpaul> pins**
<kristianpaul> please remove your battery
<qwebirc46206> with what though?
<kristianpaul> battery out as when you do on you cellphone  i guess :)
<qwebirc46206> the battery is out
<kristianpaul> good, do you see the the two usb boot pins?
<qwebirc46206> ya
<kristianpaul> The idea is to short then with the carbonized rubber button
<qwebirc46206> does short mean connect?
<kristianpaul> yes in some manner :)
<qwebirc46206> so would a strip of foil work too?
<kristianpaul> it *could* but the rubber thing is more effective
<qwebirc46206> ok i'll try to find it
<kristianpaul> you said you still having it isnt?
<kristianpaul> please
<qwebirc46206> lol
<qwebirc46206> ya i hope i have it...
<qwebirc46206> brb
<kristianpaul> i personally use my screwdriver, but because i feel confident with
<kristianpaul> qwebirc46206: if you
<kristianpaul> dont if it, we could try with a paper clip perhaps
<kristianpaul> s/if/have
<qwebirc46206> ok i found it
<qwebirc46206> right in my box of old cpu's
<kristianpaul> good
<kristianpaul> please in a seperate terminal run watch lsusb (in case you havent)
<kristianpaul> now lets first with the nanonote unpluged use the rubber thing and push on the boot usb pins
<kristianpaul> then connect the usb cable
<kristianpaul> then the lsusb output will now show a line with 601a:4740 if all wen ok
<kristianpaul> wenT
<qwebirc46206> ok great it did
<qwebirc46206> it was a simple problem
<qwebirc46206> I did not know that power+U was software
<qwebirc46206> now I can just reflash again, right?
<kristianpaul> yes
<qwebirc46206> hello?
<kristianpaul> hello !
<qwebirc46206> ok
<kristianpaul> go ahead
<qwebirc46206> just curious, what do you run on your nano?
<kristianpaul> yes power+U is handled by uBoot
<kristianpaul> i like gmu, i use it for connect to servers and transfer files
<qwebirc46206> so you use openwrt
<qwebirc46206> ?
<kristianpaul> yes i do
<kristianpaul> i also use elinks
<kristianpaul> i have several docs in html
<qwebirc46206> I'm looking to run Debian
<kristianpaul> and mplayer
<kristianpaul> will be cool, if got at least framebuffer to work
<qwebirc46206> I am looking at another project openzipit
<kristianpaul> i do use mathomatic too
<qwebirc46206> which I call the nanonote's evil twin
<kristianpaul> btw are you running reflash script?
<qwebirc46206> no, I do it by hand
<kristianpaul> as you wish :=
<kristianpaul> :)
<qwebirc46206> it never seems to work at least for me
<kristianpaul> may be using wrong offsets for when writing to flash?
<qwebirc46206> so if this happens again, I just bust out that little rubber, right?
<kristianpaul> yes
<qwebirc46206> theoretically the nano is unbrickable?
<kristianpaul> yes
<qwebirc46206> well i may build a custom kernel
<kristianpaul> there is even a jtag some wher i remenber
<qwebirc46206> i was told i would at least have to modify one
<qwebirc46206> for soft-float
<kristianpaul> are you installng debian from
<kristianpaul> i love tha pic :-D
<kristianpaul> thaT
<qwebirc46206> no, but i think i downloaded from their mirror
<kristianpaul> k
<qwebirc46206> yeah it is a nice pic
<kristianpaul> ha, a bit sdr adc/dac ubb... damnn!! ;-)=
<kristianpaul> i must leave
<kristianpaul> take care
<qwebirc46206> ok well thanks and see you on the mailing list
<qwebirc46206> maybe
<kristianpaul> a/bit/1 bit
<wolfspraul> kristianpaul: wow great, it seems his Nano is already unbricked
