still 2k missing
<willmore>
Oh, FFS, they're displaying the pledge amount in my local currency instead of the project currency, but listing the goals in the project currency.
<willmore>
That's beyond confusing, that could ruin a project!

mouse-hover over amount, it will show how much it is in usd
phipli has joined #linux-sunxi
<willmore>
KotCzarny, it's the other way around. I want it to show me the amount pledged so far in Euro--or whatever currency unit the goals are in. How have they gotten this far with this large of a bug?

mostly because people were looking properly at the amount ?

<willmore>
BenG83, yes.

if you don't read the text, you have no clue what the stretch goals are
<KotCzarny>
anyway, current status is 28783eur

My problem is simply that the amount pledged is in my currency instead of in the project currency--like every other amount on the page. That makes no sense.
<KotCzarny>
willmor: for me it displays both, eur and usd on pledges
<willmore>
A simple thermometer graph could make the stretch goals make way more sense.
<KotCzarny>
and the total amount has a hover (those arrows) that states how much eur is there

Good afternoon everyone. I am currently working to bring several PCB's to market and was interested in using several Allwinner CPU's (H3/H5/H6,R40,R58) but noticed that most of these are not supported in mainline linux according to http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort. Is this document up-to-date?
<KotCzarny>
mostly
Putti has joined #linux-sunxi
<Guest60434>
thanks for the reply KotCzarny!
<Guest60434>
I did not see anything about the R58 on there. Any links to show support for that processor?
<smaeul>
the H3/H5 *are* supported in mainline, depending on what parts of the hardware you want to use
<Guest60434>
@KotCzarny I would define 'full' as all available aspects working. Although some could probably not be implemented yet and still get a viable product, it looks like the R line is not really ready for consumption yet (almost everything is red or 'n/a'). H series seems a little better off, but still doesn't have enough to work in a graphical environment (headless would probably be ok) -
<Guest60434>
unless I am missing something.
<f11f12>
And I'd like to put the ddr close to the cpu (well the hw guy).
<KotCzarny>
r series is just marketing rename of older chips
pgreco is now known as pgreco_
<KotCzarny>
at least so far
<Guest60434>
i noticed that. looks like v40 = r40, a83t=r58
<KotCzarny>
and r16 == a33
<BenG83_>
as for description of the parameters, the DRAM controller is some version of Design Ware IP
<BenG83_>
and sometimes you can find user manuals for other SoCs that use the same controller
<f11f12>
Is there any information about the V40 DRAM controller? Is it the same as in some other cpu?
<Guest60434>
the V series doesn't appear to be in the table, so I don't know what is going on with it
<BenG83_>
V,R,A,H are just different business units within AW
<BenG83_>
they sometimes use the same SoC under different names
<BenG83_>
like A64 = R18
<BenG83_>
I don't know which generation of DRAM controller is in the R40
<BenG83_>
I would suspect it's the same as in H3/H5/A64...
<BenG83_>
not many people have worked on R40 since there is not much hardware available
<BenG83_>
you probably can ask icenowy[m]
<BenG83_>
she did most of the work there I think
<Guest60434>
@BenG83 It looks like the R40 is a chicken and egg situation. I wanted to use the H6 myself for several products, but there is no support. Can't build hardware without software to work on it.
<f11f12>
Found that page before, it does not mention R40/V40 :-(
<KotCzarny>
h3 is safest bet, but old (still, not as old as vc4)
<f11f12>
If it's dw ip it might have a revision id register
Ultrasauce has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<Guest60434>
@KotCzarny it looks like the H3 has the same problem as the H5 - no HDMI audio. Both are red boxes indicating no current work on them. I would need HDMI for the products.
<Guest60434>
Is it safe to say that the best series to go with is the A series?
yann has joined #linux-sunxi
<Guest60434>
Seems to have the most available functionality according to the wiki
<BenG83_>
H3 is very popular, there are already a LOT of boards out there
<BenG83_>
H5/A64 are more or less facelift versions of it
<Guest60434>
but do they offer full HDMI?
<Guest60434>
I've seen companies like FriendlyArm with their NanoPI's, but those are all headless
Ultrasauce has joined #linux-sunxi
<BenG83_>
I think most H3 boards come with HDMI
<KotCzarny>
you can always try offering bounty for hdmi audio support
<BenG83_>
HDMI audio always needs I2S support first
<BenG83_>
since the audio part of the transceiver is attached via I2S
<KotCzarny>
i2s is in 4.14 for h3
<BenG83_>
then usually comes HDMI video
<BenG83_>
and once that is done, audio
<KotCzarny>
hdmi video is in 4.17 for h3
<Guest60434>
so then the h3/h5 HDMI could possibly fully work for 4.14?
<KotCzarny>
no, it just means there is a chance of relatively easy job of adding it for h3
<BenG83_>
I think atm there is just no basic HDMI audio driver at all
SP7RT has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<Guest60434>
hmmm if I could get the HDMI fully working, I would use those processors for the projects
<Guest60434>
@KotCzarny is there a place to list an HDMI audio bounty (which may just be the construction of a driver per BenG)?
<Guest60434>
although the HDMI support is listed as 4.17 kernel
<Guest60434>
any chance for backport to 4.14?
Putti has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<smaeul>
yes, HDMI support for h3/h5 has been available out of tree back to at least 4.11
<KotCzarny>
smaeul: audio?
<smaeul>
no
pgreco_ is now known as pgreco
SP7RT has joined #linux-sunxi
<smaeul>
presumably the final merged version of HDMI (display) would be trivial to backport
<KotCzarny>
also, 4.14 means it's the earliest version some feature got in mainline, and any further kernels have it
<smaeul>
I know anarsoul|2 and codekipper were working on HDMI audio, they'd have a better idea about how close it is to upstream submission
Putti has joined #linux-sunxi
return0e has joined #linux-sunxi

@anarsoul|2 that should apply to H5 too right?

anarsoul|2, and that makes HDMI audio just work?
<Guest60434>
and the A64 HDMI audio works you're saying?
<anarsoul|2>
Guest60434: I'm not sure about H5
<anarsoul|2>
Guest60434: yes, with some patches from Icenowy and jernej.
<Guest60434>
do they not have the same HDMI configuration?
putti_ has joined #linux-sunxi
Putti has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<BenG83_>
they sometimes have different HDMI controller/transceiver/PHY combos
<anarsoul|2>
BenG83_: you still need HDMI patches
<BenG83_>
ok
<Guest60434>
ok, so it is pretty safe to start these projects using H3/H5? Seems like the only parts that are currently missing are the HDMI audio on the H5 (H3 is done per anarsoul|2)?
<BenG83_>
well if you really want to see what works and not, get some boards and the out-of-tree patches to test
codekipper has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]

<willmore>
BenG83_, but it requires some experience with them to chose which one is a good starter board.
<KotCzarny>
this might also be helpful to select features
<willmore>
Guest60434, the PC and PC2 are pretty close to reference designs. The PC2 upsets some people as they had to rotate the SoC+DRAM complex a few degrees to get it to fit on the board with all of the other I/O.
<BenG83_>
anarsoul|2, was you or anyone working on A64 audiocodec?
<willmore>
This upsets the sensibilities of some people.
<Guest60434>
lol
<willmore>
But, the critical part was the SoC to DRAM wiring and that's unchanged.
<willmore>
Guest60434, go look at it, it may strike you wrong, too. :)
<willmore>
I don't mean to criticize such people, it's a fully understandable reaction.
<willmore>
I've just laid out enough boards with strange requirements that my sense of what is right and pretty is overwhelmed by my sense of "oh, what a clever way to route things".
<anarsoul|2>
BenG83_: codekipper was working on it, I have it more or less working in my branch
<anarsoul|2>
