anyone know if u-boot SPL, u-boot and ATF can be installed into one of the mmcblkXbootY partitions instead of being written directly to the device?
<vagrantc>
on A64
<vagrantc>
is it more board-specific than that?

<wens>
nope
<wens>
SPL needs to be at an exact offset in the block device
<vagrantc>
that offset appears to be in conflict with GPT partition tables, or at least what the default partitioning tools in debian create
<vagrantc>
or, some part of that
<wens>
theoretically you could have ATF / u-boot proper in a partition if you added partition table support to SPL
<vagrantc>
ah.
<wens>
vagrantc: yeah, IIRC the solution was to use a shortened GPT table
<vagrantc>
so the SPL is not in conflict, it's the other parts?
<wens>
I'm not sure about the details
<wens>
I think SPL itself is in conflict
<vagrantc>
on anything with an eMMC, there's always these partitions that it seems like i ought to use for something, and it also would solve some problems :)
<vagrantc>
hm.
<vagrantc>
well, thanks for confirming, at least :)
<wens>
GPT ends right before LBA 34, while SPL starts at 16

I trial and errored my way to reading as much as I can in FEL without crashing the device and I ended up with two files. One that starts at zero and ends at 49136 bytes, and one that starts at 131027 and ends at 196592 bytes. but I can't make much sence of either of them. =/

Hi there, is slow USB speed (13Mbit max) a known problem of the OrangePi Prime (H5 device) 4.14.32 ?

<Xnyle>
I'm using a ASIX AX88772B USB to ethernet adapter (100Mbit) and can only get 13Mbit out of it
<Xnyle>
a normal usb key (storage device) can reach 50Mbit which is ok I guess, but the ethernet adapter is very slow
<Xnyle>
It's not the adapter itself, that one works @80Mbit on the Rpi3
<Xnyle>
And ksoftirqd is using quite a lot of cpu when there is network traffic (up to 40%)

Xnyle: Sounds like you are somehow only negotiating low speed USB connection for that device. Maybe related to something in the driver for the adapter as well?
<Xnyle>
how can I find out what was negotiated
<jonkerj>
I'd guess with lsusb -vv
<jonkerj>
or in kernel log when plugging the deivce

<Xnyle>
i tested another adapter but it's the same asix chip and so same result

lsusb -t could tell you what usb port and speed it uses
<Xnyle>
nothing in lsusb about actual speed for this device

seems reasonably fast
<KotCzarny>
so that part is ok

what about the ksoftirq processes cpu usage going through the roof any idea about that?

ok, that helped, a bit, i googled what this is all about and changed 14 to 6 which should be cpu 2 und 3, confirmed 14 is the right irq, BUT according to /proc/interrupts only cpu1 is being used
<Xnyle>
speed is up to nearly 20 mbit now, but why is it only using one cpu then?
<KotCzarny>
because broken irq scheduling on arm
<KotCzarny>
which ends up on cpu0 for everything by default
<KotCzarny>
and armbian folks reschedule at least mmc and eth to cpu3
<Xnyle>
yeah but ater i set it to two cpus it's still only using one
<KotCzarny>
in your case it's also very cpu bound, try setting cpufreq governor to performance and cpu speed to 1200
<KotCzarny>
then do the tests
<Xnyle>
nothing i can do so that it's using more than one cpu?
<KotCzarny>
if you know c you can try getting into kernel development and fix
<KotCzarny>
otherwise for so many years it has been that way
