<Turl> [7]: it's not calibrated (missing idc file)
<Turl> [7]: add that and it'll be all good
<[7]> probably
<[7]> but why doesn't it find my idc file?
<Turl> [7]: the device name may have changed

<[7]> blargh
<[7]> it's sun4i-ts instead of sun4i_ts
<[7]> let's see
<eagles0513875> hey Turl long time no c
<Turl> hi eagles0513875
<eagles0513875> finally have come back to my project with my cubieboard 2
<eagles0513875> i have the images ready to go :)
<eagles0513875> question becomes how would i install said images on my devices flash memory
<Turl> eagles0513875: what kind of images?
<eagles0513875> buildroot
<eagles0513875> how do i flash it on to the flash memory of my board
<[7]> the internal flash boot process is very android-oriented
<[7]> booting linux from that is a bit tricky, but doable
aesok has quit [Quit: Ухожу я от вас (xchat 2.4.5 или старше)]
<Turl> eagles0513875: booting from nand is not really straightforward
<eagles0513875> oh
<eagles0513875> what would i need to do?
<Turl> you need to use the allwinner bootloaders
<Turl> and to be able to 'flash' it you'd need to make a livesuit image out of it
<eagles0513875> oh and build root doesnt build one for you?
<Turl> eagles0513875: not that I know of
<[7]> you can also boot linux from an sd card and rewrite the internal flash from there, can be easier than making a livesuit image
<eagles0513875> [7]: im n ot using a linux distro
<eagles0513875> im using build root to get me a base root system
<eagles0513875> and go from there
<[7]> well you could use e.g. a debian image to make a card that you use to flash whatever you want to the internal memory
<[7]> you can't easily install the bootloaders that way, but usually those are already present
<eagles0513875> im trying to keep this system as minimal as possible
<eagles0513875> in the sense that it just goes right into the software
<[7]> sure
<[7]> but just using something readily available as a tool can make things easier
<Turl> eagles0513875: if I were you I'd use a sd card to keep it minimal
<eagles0513875> then the 4gb of internal memory is a waste
<Turl> at least during development, if it needs to go to production you can work it out later on
<eagles0513875> ya im planning it to go to production eventually :)
<eagles0513875> im working on a prototype for sure :)
<[7]> if you really want to mess with livesuit, I can give you some files tomorrow
<[7]> took me like a week to get that mess working for android
<[7]> linux with a FAT boot partition might work as well with that setup
<[7]> linux with the kernel on ext2/ext4 would need even more work
<[7]> using an sd-card based flasher will almost certainly be easier though

<raoulh> hi
<raoulh> i have a fresh new mele a2000G board
<raoulh> and i built an openembedded image for it
<raoulh> with a linux kernel 3.4.61
<raoulh> but i have a kernel panic a boot
<libv> raoulh: pastebin it
<raoulh> it crashes in the nand driver
BluesBoy has joined #linux-sunxi
<raoulh> does anyone know something about that?
<raoulh> i have other mele boards, and it just runs fine
<libv> raoulh: one thing to try is to get our latest 3.4.67
<raoulh> ok
<raoulh> i'll try that asap
<libv> i have no idea whether something really got fixed with the nand driver, but it's worth a shot
<raoulh> yep
<raoulh> anyway, is there some hw differences on some mele a2000g?
<raoulh> it's strange it happens only on this one
<libv> raoulh: open it up :)
<libv> raoulh: look at board markings
<libv> raoulh: do both have the exact same code?
<raoulh> i'll do some pictures

<libv> 12.01 for the A1000 and 12.08 for the A2000 picture
<raoulh> thanks
<libv> the mele i am running now is a A1000 and it also states 12.08
<libv> which is apparently not correlated to a release date, as i got that in june 2012
<raoulh> ok
<libv> nand chips do differ though.

<libv> cycle, up real hills
<libv> with water and tools
<oliv3r> hehehe
<oliv3r> NL remmeber, flat flat flat :p
<libv> i really do break frames, usually right before the rear axle on the drive side
<libv> my brother keeps on urging me to try racing bikes, but they all seem to be built for low weight, not for lasting
<oliv3r> oh wow
<oliv3r> hehe, yeah
<oliv3r> i'm a bit to heavy I usppose for my rascing bike
<oliv3r> but so far no problem yet
<oliv3r> but i think this is still an old skool steel frame one
<libv> this frame is a velotraum, full steal, rated to 160kg total weight, which i tend to be close to reaching most of the time
<libv> s/steal/steel/
<libv> with other frames you are lucky if they were dimensioned for 130
<libv> the saddle on it died this spring
<oliv3r> heh, i'm 'only' 105kg atm :p
<libv> the second high price terry saddle to give way
<libv> first was ti tubing, this one was steel
<libv> i have now switched to selle royal mach, as aldi had those a few years back when i needed a quick replacement, and it has lasted
<libv> 8EUR aldi saddle beats 180EUR worth of terry :)
<libv> oliv3r: with 105kg you have little room to spare
<oliv3r> i know :(
<libv> oliv3r: add bike, clothes/shoes, backpack
<libv> don't go shopping.
<libv> otherwise there will be a clunk, and everything will go wobbly
<oliv3r> oh i've transported full PC's on my backpack with that :)
<oliv3r> even 24" monitors
<libv> well, one day the hairline cracks will break all the way
<oliv3r> but this is one of those old fashioned 60's racing bikes, so it should be sturdy!
<libv> and it will not be at a convenient time
<libv> ok, you might get lucky with those
<oliv3r> steel!

<t3ngu> I have also downloaded and compilde the sunxi tools from git.
<t3ngu> but...

<t3ngu> shall I create one? and where?
<oliv3r> t3ngu: you do or do not have nand chip on the bottom of your cb3
<Nikolas-> no, it's on your distro's boot partition
<oliv3r> if you have a nand chip on the bottom, you have /dev/block/nanda
<Nikolas-> there's script.bin uEnv.txt <some other file I can't recall now> on the drive
<t3ngu> oliv3r: i have nanda nandb and nandc
<oliv3r> mount -t vfat /dev/block/nanda /mnt

<oliv3r> e.g. data in, data out and clock
<oliv3r> hmm, nand kernel won't do sata properly either, so it may very well be my board being fucked :p
<t3ngu> oliv3r: I cannot quite follow. Its a little out of my league
<oliv3r> maybe not enough power, who knows
<libv> oliv3r: first time you use sata on the mele?
<libv> iirc you had a mele
<libv> ah, cb1
<oliv3r> libv: i've only plugged it in briefly a few months ago to see if it worked; can't even know for sure if it was on cb2 or cb1
<oliv3r> libv: do you have a sata drive connected to your mele by chance?
<oliv3r> ah it does boot/power it
<oliv3r> i think 500 mA isn't enough for A10 + ssd
<libv> it definitely is not
<oliv3r> though i know my monitor supplies a little bit more
<eagles0513875> hey all :)
<libv> i killed a 1A power supply on the mele, without even attaching a disk
<oliv3r> oh wow
<oliv3r> guess its time to sprinkle on some printk's to see where it hangs
<oliv3r> but i don't recall seeing differences between sun4i and sun7i with regards to ahci :(
<oliv3r> crap it looks liek it hangs in platform_ahci :S
<oliv3r> or somewhre after platform_device_add(); :S
<wens> no response from the drive? :p
<oliv3r> if i boot from nand it's fine
<oliv3r> if i boot from sd it fails :(
<oliv3r> but only on sun4i, sun7i works fine
<hno> montjoie[home], yes there is some great feedback for an HWRNG there.
<wens> wasn't someone working on SS?
<Turl> wens: montjoie[home]
<eagles0513875> hey Turl how are you :)
<hno> wens, looked briefly at it. It is quite reasonably documented in latest gens. But also quite useless.
<Turl> hi eagles0513875
<eagles0513875> :) going to try get some testing done :) with build root on cubeiboard 2 :)
<eagles0513875> i have a question if i boot off the memory card can the internal memory of the cubieboard 2 as storage?
<wens> hno: useless?
<Turl> eagles0513875: yeah
<eagles0513875> humm interesting :)
<eagles0513875> this requires some testing but first need to get this working prototype done
<hno> wens, allows you to lock things down, but poorly supported in boot rom and not supported in boot loaders. So can easily be bypasswd.
<eagles0513875> sudo ./mkcubiecard.sh output/images /dev/sdb1
<eagles0513875> i get with the above files missing
<eagles0513875> O_o
<eagles0513875> is that a problem with me or the script
<wens> hno: oh, i was talking about the crypto engine
<hno> wens, right, my confusion.
<hno> yes there was someone looking at the crypt engine. Don't remember who however.
<eagles0513875> can i copy everything in the images directory or just the images directory to my memory card seeing as the above command isnt working for me
<n01> eagles0513875: please read the readme. What is your <images_dir>?
<eagles0513875> output/images
<eagles0513875> n01: ^
<n01> ... eagles0513875 absolute path
<eagles0513875> ahh ok /home/jaquilina/buildroot/output/images
<eagles0513875> then this point in the readme isnt right it doesnt mention at all an absolute path - <images_dir> is the directory containing the generated files (usually output/images)
<n01> no eagles0513875 it is obvious that you _must_ use absolute or relative path
<hno> wens, is there a gbit PHY on Cubietruck? Had the impression it's only a 10/100 PHY.
<eagles0513875> ok
<deasy> hno, it's a gigabits
<Turl> hno: cb2 has a 10/100 one
<deasy> but actually doesn't work after 3.4 kernel
<deasy> ony works in 10/100
<deasy> likhum i'm not clear
<hno> ok. good.
<deasy> like say on the ML : <3.4 10/100 after doesn't works
<t3ngu> hno: i'm running 3.4.61+ and my eth0 is linked on 1000
<t3ngu> mii-tool
<t3ngu> eth0: negotiated 1000baseT-FD flow-control, link ok
<deasy> "however gigabit does work under 3.4 kernel." hum sorry :p

<oliv3r> libv: nah, i have it connected to my monitor; but two cables atm
<oliv3r> got nothing else here atm
<oliv3r> but 0.35 mA max for the SSD
<oliv3r> libv: i though tit was lower; but i will get a real power block tomorrow with me to work when i do some testing
<oliv3r> but if nand driver with all the whistles loads sd; and my ssd kernel hangs at sata, it could be sata driver :p
<oliv3r> also hramrach and hansg gonna test cb1 i think so that should give a better indicator
<oliv3r> my CTruck I run off of 500+ mA monitor HUB too, but i have a battery connected as well, so that'll catch all the bumps easily
<eagles0513875> guys what is the default tty serial port for the cubieboard 2
<wens> eagles0513875: ttyS0
<eagles0513875> O_o
<eagles0513875> odd
<eagles0513875> its not working for me
<wens> oliv3r: does the battery get charged if we don't have driver for AXP209?
<eagles0513875> im trying to connect with putty wens and its unable to connect

<oliv3r> eagles0513875: bootloader should nearly always print something
<oliv3r> actually the nand bootloader will; and our u-boot aswell
<oliv3r> so if both don't print anything; it must be on the usb end
<oliv3r> either your adapter or PC
<eagles0513875> thing is its not even connecting to the serial port
<wens> eagles0513875: you have the right com port on your pc?
<eagles0513875> im using putty
<wens> eagles0513875: i know, putty asks you to type in the serial port, doesn't it?
<eagles0513875> no just the serial line and baud speed
<wens> so are you using the correct serial line? if yes, then you should always get a connection
<wens> unless some other program is using it
<wens> if you get a connection but no output, try reversing tx/rx pins
<n01> eagles0513875: ttyS0 is not the serial line to put in putty
<eagles0513875> n01: i tried ttyUSB0 and that didnt work
<oliv3r> eagles0513875: if you use putty, that means you are using windows (most likly) remember windows likes to re-enumerate your comport so doublecheck the number in the device manager as it could be differentfrom yesterday
<oliv3r> eagles0513875: you port COM5 or something in
<oliv3r> ttyUSB0 and ttyS0 are linux terms

<oliv3r> unless he installed putty for linux, while it exists i don't think anybody uses it? :)

<eagles0513875> ok my serial wire should be hooked up black in ground white in RX green in TX ?
<eagles0513875> or white and green reversed
<wens> best not to use windows anyway. pl2303 driver crashes from fifo overflow or something when there's too much output

<oliv3r> green is RX
<eagles0513875> got it :)

<eagles0513875> i think i know how i can find out

<oliv3r> eagles0513875: are you using USB uart or your actual serial port?

<oliv3r> ok then it should really be /dev/ttyUSB0
<oliv3r> or UBS1 if you have 2 :p
<eagles0513875> ok but i went into make menuconfig
<eagles0513875> and it showed defaults therre ttys0
<oliv3r> if you connect screen to /dev/ttyUSB0 it will stay connected, now if you unplug the usb plug, screen will disconnect
<oliv3r> that should kinda tell you that it's working
<oliv3r> menuconfig?
<oliv3r> eagles0513875: you are confused on the otherside
<eagles0513875> ya wrong end i think
<oliv3r> PC -> USB -> USBUart (ttyUSB0) -> cable -> serial port (ttyS0) -> Cubieboard2
<eagles0513875> ahh ok
<eagles0513875> also oliv3r im guessing i would need sudo or not necessarily

<oliv3r> laptops only deliver 500 mA max
<eagles0513875> ahh so i need to plug into the electricity directly
<eagles0513875> thats what i dont understand
<oliv3r> sometimes that can help yeah
<eagles0513875> how can the cubieboard also power a sata hard disk
<eagles0513875> on 5v
<oliv3r> your laptop may be limiting the output
<oliv3r> USB is 5V, sata harddisk is 5V
<oliv3r> so no problem there :)
<eagles0513875> interesting i didnt know that
<oliv3r> but you need enough current to power everything
<eagles0513875> ya like any pc
<oliv3r> your laptop may deliver 500 mili ampere, but likly even less
<oliv3r> the cubieboard needs like 300-600 i would estimate
eebrah has joined #linux-sunxi
<oliv3r> sata harddisk can vary from 350 mA for an SSD, to 1.2 Amps for a 7200 PRM one

<eagles0513875> interesting
<oliv3r> usually yeah
<eagles0513875> even the big normal computer hard disks
<oliv3r> technically you are violating the USB standard :p
<eagles0513875> lol
<oliv3r> if you use the usb -> barrel cable

<eagles0513875> i need to find a usb to normal power plug
<eagles0513875> i have a spare one somewhere

<tomboy64> none rfkill0 battery-charging-or-full battery-charging battery-full battery-charging-blink-full-solid ac-online usb-online mmc0 mmc1 timer [heartbeat] cpu0 cpu1 default-on rfkill1 rfkill2
<tomboy64> HAH
