<silviop> pitillo:on A20 i use vanilla kernel , do you need nand support ?
Putti has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<pitillo> silviop: not really. I was using linux-sunxi since long time ago and now trying to update I've found problems with gcc5. I tried without patching but I don't know if there is a newer branch to avoid this manual patch
<silviop> I feel that for A10-A13-A20 vanilla is better but mali end nand may stop you if you need them
<silviop> i have cubie and cubie2
<wens> pitillo: for the 3.4 kernel, i don't think so
<pitillo> here the same, cb1 and cb2. I'd like to keep using (or researching) about mali for desktop enviroment...
<pitillo> wens: thank you, I'll patch to support newer gcc
<MoeIcenowy> pitillo: for mali... what mainline lacks is only DRM HDMI support ;-)
<MoeIcenowy> I managed to run mali binary driver r6p0 on my A33 tablet

<krichy> hi all
<krichy> i own a bananapi m1 plus
<krichy> which does not boot up with latest mainline kernel and latest dts files
<krichy> it seems that emmc is not detected correctly by the driver
<krichy> i had to replace the compatible strings in mmc0 and mmc3 to allwinner,sun5i-a13-mmc
<krichy> which made the device boot up well
apritzel has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<krichy> also, I had to enable usbphy to make usb hosts work
<ElBarto> krichy: compatible string change to allwinner.sun7i-a20-mmc so your kernel/dts aren't synced correctly
<krichy> if i use the original dts from mainline kernel
<krichy> it is in sync, but then the board does not boot up
medvid has joined #linux-sunxi
<krichy> the difference between the two devices, is from drivers/mmc/host/sunxi-mmc.c
<krichy> is that the a20 defines clk_delays
<krichy> and that sets a flag MMC_CAP_1_8V_DDR to the mmc host
<ElBarto> check if the driver matches on allwinner,sun7i-a20-mmc
<krichy> sure it matches, but sets a flag,
<krichy> in drivers/mmc/host/sunxi-mmc.c:1249
<krichy> if that is removed, and rebuilt,
<krichy> the board again boots up
<ElBarto> then I don't know
<krichy> with that flag not set to the mmc
<krichy> anyone else having the same board?
matthias_bgg has joined #linux-sunxi
florianH has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> huh? bananapi m1 plus doesn't have emmc
<KotCzarny> his bananas apparently has one ;)
<wens> you sure that's the board you have?
<KotCzarny> maybe there is new model?
<wens> i got mine this year, don't know about any refreshes
<krichy> the only thing I know that mainline kernel with included dts wont boot
<krichy> on mine
<KotCzarny> krichy, pics
<krichy> what kernel/dts are you using?
<KotCzarny> both sides
yann has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> kernel/dts from sunxi-next boots fine on mine
<krichy> i could do it later, the board is at home and i am at work right now
<KotCzarny> or link to the store you got it from
<krichy> i will try that also
<krichy> aliexpress
<krichy> one moment
<KotCzarny> a bit pricy o.O
<wens> yeah. that's the board i have, nowhere on it is there emmc
<KotCzarny> yup, nothing on pics too
<krichy> sorry for wrong speaking
<krichy> maybe mine also does not have an emmc,
<krichy> just a misspell
<krichy> an mmc
<krichy> card slot
<krichy> just
<wens> we normally call those micro sd slots
<krichy> ok
<wens> you obviously can't fit an mmc card in there
<krichy> but the dts file references that as an mmc
<krichy> am i wrong?
<wens> the mmc controller, which also supports sd
<krichy> ok
<krichy> thats right
<wens> or you could've said your mmc0 doesn't work
<wens> anyway, mine boots perfectly with kernel/dts from sunxi-next
<krichy> i am checking the diff from sunxi-next to mainline
<krichy> i am checking the diffs from sunxi-next to mainline
<wens> an old dtb likely won't boot with sunxi-next, remember to update your dtb as well
<krichy> ok
Putti has joined #linux-sunxi
<krichy> i also have the dts from git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/devicetree/devicetree-rebasing.git
<krichy> may i use that?
<wens> use the one that comes with your kernel tree to be safe
massi has joined #linux-sunxi
<krichy> ok
<KotCzarny> also, for bpi-m1 you can just use mainline kernel, no need for sunxi-next
<krichy> i am trying to do that
<wens> you get USB support with sunxi-next
<KotCzarny> wens, what kind of support?
<KotCzarny> is bpi-m1+ differing in some way?
<krichy> i just have a m1+, dont know the m1
<krichy> it seems to have the same a20 soc
<wens> KotCzarny: usb phy wasn't enabled in the 4.9 dts, so you don't get USB
<wens> for that particular board
<krichy> is there a reason why it is not enabled?
<krichy> is that the right way to enable usbphy device in the dts?
popolon has joined #linux-sunxi
<krichy> i see changes which may resolve my problem
<krichy> then i will try sunxi-next branch
<krichy> thanks
<krichy> for now
<KotCzarny> krichy: maybe banana folks changed pins without any reason
<KotCzarny> just for the sake of changing
<krichy> wens: could you try a vanilla mainline kernel to see if it boots up on your board?
<wens> krichy: i think it was just accidentally left out

<willmore> tkaiser, a dual core 1.2GHz A53 isn't going to threaten a quad core A15 at 2 GHz. As far as I/O goes, then yeah, it's a lot more interesting of a matchup.
<tkaiser> willmore: CPU horsepower is sooo boring, really. And I'm too bored to look for the link. Somewhere in Armbian forum, Free section, pinned thread.
<willmore> tkaiser, if you're serving files then I see your point CPU doesn't matter much, but is you're compiling on the box or doing something more demanding, it becomes a factor.

<tkaiser> willmore: Anyone who wants to use the CPU cores on these little SoCs is IMO somewhat weird. Since you mentioned encryption: The difference between loaded cesa drivers and without is approx three times higher if CESA is used (and CPU cores are free for housekeeping). <KotCzarny> i still think it might be power issue (unless electronics broke)
<lala_> from same psu it works ok attached to windows
<lala_> drives*
<lala_> and the problem doesn't start right away, if i wipe the disc and generate a new partition table it takes some time to start again and even the segate works for few days without any problems

<tkaiser> lala_: USB-C? Micro-USB?

<tkaiser> lala_: Then check this thread https://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/611-wip-axp209-mainline-sysfs-interface/ and then the respective sysfs node. Provided voltage can be read out.
<lala_> but why, if i supply the hard drives from separate source the board acts differently with different drive?
<tkaiser> lala_: Problem is called Ohm's law. When board needs more current, voltage drops.
jstein_ is now known as jstein
<tkaiser> lala_: Don't know and don't care. Anything that needs more than 5mA and is powered through Micro-USB is a fail. And there the search has to start.
<tkaiser> lala_: Those early Bananas can be powered through SATA power with a JHT header. Way more reliable. But just check the voltage when idle and when you run a sysbench cpu test and compare.
<lala_> perfect, i will look into the voltage drop
Guest72542 has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<tkaiser> lala_: I don't know which Raspbian you used but maybe the difference between those image and Armbian is that the latter uses mainline u-boot where SATA gets already enabled in u-boot. Therefore booting might fail that early with disk connected.
