oh something to mention: one of my friend used armbian on Nano Pi NEO
KotCzarny: The SATA ports on this BPi-R2 are most probably provided by one ASM1061 hanging off a single PCIe 2 lane
tkaiser: is it a good chip?
KotCzarny: better ask google. I also don't know whether the MediaTek SoC can saturate a PCIe lane or cope with high IO bandwidth. And since it's the worst vendor ever we will not know until someone bought this stuff and tested it.
tkaiser: the device tree on Orange Pi One do not match it so well
KotCzarny: as I heard, the SATA on bpi-r2 is UASP
tkaiser: especially LEDs
MoeIcenowy: red vs blue? And what has SATA to do with UASP?

that makes it tempting. but mediatek. and banana. eh.
tkaiser: the MAC LEDs are not working
I forgot which LED...
tkaiser, if its an usb chip ;)
hmm, is there a way to reset hdmi? or make it reread/redetect edid?
(other than reconnecting cable)
KotCzarny: Well, maybe they're dumb enough to combine USB with an USB-to-SATA bridge and a multiplexer behind to ensure performance being as low as possible.
And now think about buying MediaTek based BPi-R2. There's no linux-sunxi community around to fix software and documentation. You're literally lost with this vendor.

buying banana board 50usd, getting own name into banana docs, priceless!

Their documentation is just stupid copy&paste from various sources. And even if you tell them that their boards have 3 custom leds and not just 1 or one USB host port less or that DRAM is not LPDDR3 (732 MHz) but DDR3 (672 MHz) they simply don't give a sh*t. I've never seen such a bunch of careless ignorants.

tkaiser: bpi-r2 seems to come with no datasheet/usermanual
for the sh*tty NDA of MediaTrek
they said they paid to much for eve
even releasing the kernel source

making "open MediaTek boards" is a joke ;-)
and it's said that bpi-r2 will cost thousands of CNY

MoeIcenowy: But I'm pretty sure Banana people will advertise BPi-R2 as usual: 'open source hardware'... as long as they can use the Banana brand they will. And customers will be dumb enough to trust in.
it said that even Banana Pi M2 Ultra met some problems from their users, for lack of Android support ;-)

MoeIcenowy: I fail to understand this. The only advantage of this M2 Ultra thingie are SATA and GbE (the battery can not be used to power a SATA disk so no UPS mode and until now no single battery is known showing the right connector). So why do people want to buy this board when they've Android in mind?
