<premoboss> hi, i have nanopineo (both v1.0 and v1.1). armbian 5.20 kernel 3.4.112. my problem is i cannot ssh into usb cable (over ethernet cable it works). i already do ssh-over-usb on other board successfully, so pc/cable/configuration is ok. On NEO i set usb0 in /etc/network/interfaces as i did on other working board. NEO at boot load module g_ether and set up the usb0 but seems not announce to pc that dont set up his own usb0, on pc i gpt error if i do ifup
<premoboss> usb0 . Someone know how to solve this problem?

<nico___>
<nico___> I would like to know if someone here has already successful access to the NAND with the u-boot version on A20-olinuxino board ?
nekomona has joined #linux-sunxi
<premoboss> BurtyB, from PC i cant ping/ssh the NEO because pc dont "rise up" the usb0
<premoboss> i can do using cross cable ethernet, but the goal is go with usbcable
<nico___> @premoboss your PC loaded the correct driver ?
<nico___> i had the same issue with zynq board, and the trouble was with RNDIS driver
<premoboss> nico___, PC vork correctly if i use another arm board (Arietta with kernel 4.4.6 acmesystems.it/arietta). that kernel has g_ether arcoded in kernel and not loaded as module.
<IgorPec> what about issuficient power supply? If you are powering via USB2 than it's almost normal that it doesn't work
<premoboss> what do i have to check on PC side? some module tu unoal, maybe?
<premoboss> i power nano from usb (the same i want to use for ssh). i also added a second usb cable (only for +5V/GRD) on espasion strip (2 for 5V and 6 for GRD). but no success.
<premoboss> nanopi is od, i think so, because if i go using ssh over ethernet, all works. so i suppose there is enough energy. more, i turned off 3 cores, downspeed the clock, etc usung h3confguratin tool. so neo is at minimun consuming .
<premoboss> this board is quite perfect for my need, but if i cant connect by ssh on OTG, it became useless to me :-.(
<IgorPec> those features and kernel is still WIP so it could be broken atm
<IgorPec> you were trying on mainline or legacy or both=
<premoboss> Hi IgorPec thanks for your comment. i was serching gor my error, but if it is WIP, then ica can be unserstable it still doenst work. i am using legacy kernel (linux 3.4.112), i will try with mainline. bythe way: there isa page that report status of WIP for armbian related to different devices on different boards?
<IgorPec> we face two problems here: legacy kernel is as is, we do minor fixed but that's all. nobody is touching it... mainline kernel is what is mainlined + our fixes. For this particular board(s), monitor progress @linux-sunxi and here: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/tree/master/patch/kernel/sun8i-dev
* BurtyB had FEL+g_ether+nfs root working (other than systemd killing usb0 before it rebooted) over USB only with legacy but couldn't get it going with mainline when I last tried
<premoboss> My main needs are, A. ssh-over-usb. B. possibility to use /dev/ttySx to controll some serial device. C. possibility to use SPI/I2C. A need is the most important becasuse without it, all thaft csame after is not usable.

<premoboss> i will follow "status mastrix" looking for good news.
<premoboss> BurtyB, can you share your configuration thsat make ssh-over-usb to work? it will be a good base for me.

<BurtyB> premoboss, well I didn't find the card - but a stock 5.20 (jessie) boots once, I login set root password, add user, it auto rebooted and it doesn't look to be starting the kernel anymore - maybe that's what you're seeing too?

<beeble> nico___: enable NAND_SUNXI anbd CMD_NAND?
<nico___> @beeble it's already done, the issue is during the NAND init : ECC init failed: -22
<nico___> i have double checked dts and dtsi files
<nico___> from mainline u-boot and sunxi too
muvlon has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<beeble> nico___: care to share the dts?
<beeble> nico___: disclaimer, I don't have a a20. just offering to look at your stuff to see if something sticks out
<deskwizard> nico___, im available to double test stuff if required, I have the A20-4gb as well
<nico___> @deskwizard i have build an u-boot able to read the nand ?
<nico___> have you sry*
<deskwizard> nico___, I only tried the NAND on legacy sadly, but I sure am interested in getting it working
<deskwizard> re: DTS - I far from being an expert, but looks like the "nand0" part is inside the NFC stuff
<nico___> i added the nand pin the dtsi
<deskwizard> nico___, just so you know, I'm saving those files for future use :P ty ;)
<nico___> @deskwizard no prob ;)
<nico___> i founded serveral commits about the NAND https://github.com/bbrezillon/linux-sunxi/compare/for-olliver/nand-wip
<nico___> but i'm not an expert and i didn't find any information about that
<deskwizard> nico___, as I said, I'm pretty much a noob, but I'd try that -> http://pastebin.com/0n1ZC5pU
<deskwizard> slight change @ end of file
<nico___> @deskwizard i have already tried :(
<nico___> same error
<deskwizard> damn :|
<beeble> nand is a subtree of nfc. so nico___ version looks fine for that matter
<deskwizard> beeble, Oh, I didnt know that, thanks for the info
<beeble> nfc is the nand controller
<nico___> i tried to change the ecc mode on the dts to "none" but u-boot seems to check ecc again
<beeble> so the nand chip is below the controller
<deskwizard> beeble, make sence, I thought it was, well, NFC :P should have known better
<beeble> _N_and _F_lash _C_ontroller :)
<deskwizard> Yeah that makes a lot more sense hehehe :)

<beeble> nico___: do you have a bootlog?
<nico___> i check
<beeble> i think it fails here "if (!ecc->size || !ecc->strength)"
libv_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<beeble> that would match your EINVAL error code
<nico___> yep but i don't know why
<nico___> -22
<beeble> but don't miss your meeting. you want to have a job next year too :)
<nico___> i'm not an expert and i can't find the issue on my configuration
<nico___> don't worry 4min remaining :=

<nico___> for info :

<deskwizard> I'm quite interested in getting it to work, especially since we need a patch for the olinuxino-a20 for the codec

<beeble> ecc->size comes from mtd_to_nand(mtd); otherwise it will be set to 0
<a1d3s> bye cya next year ;)
<beeble> but can be totally wrong. last time i used plain nand was u-boot 2012 :)

<deskwizard> last time I used NAND was on legacy, all I did was run a script so yeah, I'm a bit out of my comfort zone
<deskwizard> beeble, armbian should be alright to test this, right?
reinforce has joined #linux-sunxi
<beeble> you will have to build a custom u-boot
libv_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<beeble> not familiar with armbian. so not sure if it builds a bootloader for you
<beeble> thats IgorPecs area of expertise i would guess
<deskwizard> beeble, I will look into that, I think it does when built from source, thanks for the tip :)

<beeble> you can get better prices by just asking around on alibaba, but going via proper distribution channels give you a much higher chance of not getting fresh foil wrapped trays

<deskwizard> beeble, thanks mate, I'm learning a lot today hehe, I get the same -22 error now
<deskwizard> thats a start :)
<beeble> i'm on my way home now. so can't look any further into it. i would guess that there is a problem in probing the nand. maybe it tries to get the info from the nand chip itself or something missing in the dts. maybe there is a debug option for more output while doing the mtd stuff (in the past there where pr_debugs in the mtd code)
<beeble> but can't check the code now
<beeble> maybe try greping for mtd debug
<beeble> remember there was a define and a verbose level
<beeble> but still a wild guess based on the mtd_to_nand call a few lines before the error
