hihi
<dbolser_>
If I shove a large file into ipfs and lets say a few people 'look at it' via their ipfs nodes, does each person have a full copy, or is it fragmented into shards on many nodes?

<olizilla[m]>
dbolser_ each has a full copy
gts has joined #ipfs
<dbolser_>
olizilla[m]: and when downloading, is it 'torrented' from several nodes, or just one geographically closest?
<dbolser_>
olizilla[m]: and if I understand correctly, ipfs alone won't 'distribute' the file to random other nodes? That's more into the filecoin relm?
<dbolser_>
does a large file download like a torrent?

dbolser_ yes, it's similar. When you add a file to IPFS it gets split into blocks. When you get a file, you receive blocks from any connected peers that have them

<placer14>
Hi guise. :) We're trying to figure out how align the stars to get relays to be automatically used by NATed nodes. Here's my best understanding of how all this stuff is suppose to work, but our NATed nodes are not announcing any relay MA in their swarm announcement despite our best understanding of all this stuff.
<placer14>
Here's my thinking:
<placer14>
1. NATed node comes online
<placer14>
2. Bootstraps are connected to and used to determine NAT status
<placer14>
3. Swarm Addresses are determined and announced (which should consider NAT status?)
<placer14>
4. Swarm Addrs have relay addrs included if NAT status is found to be NATed
<placer14>
5. My node asks the DHT for the announced IPs of the NATed node
<placer14>
6. My node sees public addrs and relay addrs...eventually it tries the relay and connects.
<placer14>
7. Profit.
<placer14>
(oh, sorry for the spam, thought that would all send as one chunk)

<Kubuxu>
placer14: for sure first update to 0.4.21
<Kubuxu>
0.4.19 has some bugs with relays.
<placer14>
Can you describe the nature of these bugs? We're chasing 0.4.21 as fast as we can but we have some dep issues which prevent us from updating immediately.
DavidPH has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<placer14>
(Or are they documented anywhere?)
<Kubuxu>
Hmm, interesting.

<placer14>
(Aside: I'm trying to determine if it is unreasonable for me to expect to get autorelay working with 0.4.19 at all, or if these bugs can be worked around in the short term.)
