<amosbird>
I hope ipfs do lazy fs metadata resolution
<Swedneck>
i think it's at least theoretically possible
<Swedneck>
hopefully someone more knowledgable about low-level stuff can chime in
<amosbird>
yup. But I wish we can achieve this without code modification to ipfs?
<amosbird>
hmm, which time period is active for this channel?
<amosbird>
if this is workable, it can finally fix my problem of remote desktop clipboard...b
<amosbird>
ipfs is available on both linux and windows, I can have a universal file path thus copying files is a piece of cake
<amosbird>
freerdp is broken w.r.t file pasting
<Swedneck>
i heavily doubt ipfs can do it without a fair bit of coding
<Swedneck>
also you may want to post on the forums
<amosbird>
hmm,
<amosbird>
I thought #ipfs might be more active

<amosbird>
how is ipfs a versioned fs?
<amosbird>
versioned in what regard?
<raucao>
ipfs is made for publicly sharing objects, addressed by the hash of their content. it's not an alternative to programs like syncthing, rslsync and such

<amosbird>
well, seems like a dead end to me then
<raucao>
for this use case, i think it is

<Swedneck>
i think you can disregard a lot of the stuff on the ipfs.io page
<Swedneck>
i have absolutely no clue why half of it is still there
<Swedneck>
AFAIK it's not versioned in any way shape or form
<amosbird>
...
<Swedneck>
i think ipfs has all the things required to make what you want, however
<Swedneck>
i'm not a low-level guy so i'm not quite sure how filesystems work, but i think you could bodge something together with inotify and pubsub
<Swedneck>
so like, every time a file changes it adds the change to ipfs and makes an ipfs object of the filesystem, which is then sent to peers via pubsub
<Swedneck>
i doubt it would be fast or performant however
