<myou5e[m]>
there are several projects i heard of ipfs staff working on since a long time ago, but i dont know how to find progress and cant find any repos.
<myou5e[m]>
didnt ipfs a long time ago say they were working on an npm repository?
<myou5e[m]>
how hard would it be to hook up yarn to an ipfs localhost node? we would see the benefits immediately with caching.

While trying to dig out my old attempt to package (pun intended) the "lit" package manager repo (http://luvit.io/lit.html) to IPFS, knowing that I once published it using a separate IPNS key, I tried to resolve the key. However, I failed to resolve the key on public gateways, timed out everytime. From a directly connected node, the IPNS resolve timed out several times, until I managed to resolve it at least once. Even on the
<k0mpjut0r>
same computer where I generated the key, the resolve operation felt very slow. I've read through https://github.com/ipfs/go-ipfs/issues/3860 but I'm wondering - are there any ongoing/planned efforts to make IPNS faster?

michal: voker57 there is ongoing work on this. If you look at the ipfs team management repo you can get a good idea of what features are planned for upcoming quarters. We are working on a promising upgrade to IPNS over PubSub that should allow us to get around the need for a DHT quorum as described in the issue you cited.

<TheGreatNi[m]>
If I create a directory and share it, can someone 1) upload new content to the directory and 2) can I act as the "admin" of the directory in some way (say disallow them access later or reverse changes or make some files unchangeable)
<Swedneck>
they can upload new content, but it would be a different addres/CID
<TheGreatNi[m]>
But could a third person then see all the content if I then share the dir with them?
<Swedneck>
anyone that knows a hash can see the contents
<Swedneck>
s/hash/CID
merethan has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<TheGreatNi[m]>
Right. I'm trying to figure out if ipfs would work for a project. People will submit content, but it needs to be filtered (a /submissions and /good-submission directory). The idea being that if it's via ipfs it can be p2p and all that
Ecran has joined #ipfs
<Swedneck>
i don't think ipfs works for that currently
<Swedneck>
difficult to say without knowing the details
<TheGreatNi[m]>
It would (hypothetically) work like a shared folder in google drive, where a person can act as an admin and create permissions based on different users or something, and all of it available to download
q-u-a-n2 has joined #ipfs
<Swedneck_>
yeah that's not possible
<Swedneck_>
hmm, i think textile does something like that?
<TheGreatNi[m]>
On another note, do I have to configure ipns somehow? My node never loads ipns links :/
