<purr>
ELLIOTTCABLE: hi!
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
hi vigs
<vigs>
hi ELLIOTTCABLE!
<vigs>
how's it going?
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
good. very good.
<vigs>
nice
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
had a *huge* fucking mess. a terrifying one. when updating my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
but, recovered / fixed the two really, really bad things.
<vigs>
what were they?
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
so now, been buckets of relieved for the last few hours. Finally played some *real* Destiny (i.e. with friends, not alone and bored and terrible.) with @jdhartley etc.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
currently just excited for the 6+ tomorrow(?ish)
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
ugh too long of a story to explain
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
just a comedy of computer horrors.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
- upgrade phone, phone bricks
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
- can't reboot phone, blue screen, finally have to DFU restore
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
- had a backup, but iTunes restoring from backups is a *********clus*******ter*****Fucuaekjtsgsribuytaiuerfkw
<katlogic>
game tabloids bitched about destiny pretty hard; is it really that good?
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
katlogic: it's terrible.
<vigs>
wut
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
katlogic: it was only *vaguely* stand-able when I finally had some friends to play with
<katlogic>
guess i'll wait with buying xbone till after xmas sale then
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
and then it wasn't fun 'cuz the game was good; it was just fun because collaborating on a very hard fight with friends.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
anyway. can talk about Destiny later.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
anyway.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
so, restore took *hours* of force-quitting and re-trying.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
and then we hit the really bad parts.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
- iTunes restore didn't transfer *app data*, for some apps. for no apparent reason.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
- Authy, lost. all my 2FA credentials. that means losing access to my Facebook, Twitter, iCloud, Dropbox, bank, bitcoins, and several games
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
and most importantly,
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
- Things.app, lost.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
which was its own clusterfuck, because the sync system had corrupted the databases on my other devices, so my iPhone was my last device with an intact copy of my *years*-old Things database.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
i cannot even express how important Things.app is to my life.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
I know some of you in here know, but I have a *really* bad memory.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
Most of you *don't* know. I've never met anyone else in the entire world who was as incapable of daily life as I am, entirely due to memory issues.
<katlogic>
should've stuck with rsync
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
katlogic: how, exactly, would rsync help me? o_O
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
I often can't remember what I did *yesterday* without external aids. /=
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
most of my life is managed moment-to-moment by constant and religious tracking of *everything* on my mind or in my immediate future, using Things.app
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
I have something in the order of tens-of-thousands of tasks, at this point;
<katlogic>
yeah; i use browser history and google personalized search for that
<katlogic>
i fear the day google will start charging for that one
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
and if I lost all of them, it'd *destroy* my life-productivity for months. Important money-, life-, or health-related things would get completely forgotten until they came back to bite me in the ass. It'd be terrible.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
So my last 24 hours have been horrifically depressed over the loss of my iPhone's data.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
anyway. all is well now.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
vigs: since you ask :P
<katlogic>
awww, no apple class lolsuit?
<purr>

<alexgordon>
ELLIOTTCABLE: how much do you pay for electricity
<joelteon>
my cow orker likes to use the class keyword in coffeescrpt
<joelteon>
coffeescrpt
<joelteon>
coffeescript
<joelteon>
he wants to use it even though we're not using any instance methods on this class so it could just be an object
<joelteon>
since coffeescript generates a constructor function the module isn't at 100% coverage
<joelteon>
so he creates a new object at the top of the test module
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
bahhah
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
alexgordon: yeah, with electricity costs, that's halved.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
which is actually more profitable than I'd expected.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
'parently, 0.0284BTC/day averaged out
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
we'll see how that works out.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
just sounds like it'll be fun to set up.
<alexgordon>
ELLIOTTCABLE: well it's a sunk cost now so in a way it's irrelevant how much it makes, as long as it makes more than it costs to run
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
LOL
<purr>
LOL
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
valid.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
especially because the money I invested into it, in reality, was like …
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
a tiny fraction of the seventy-ish bucks I originally spent on bitcoin in the first place?
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
lolbitcoin.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
technically I suppose it'll pay for itself in the first day, then.
<alexgordon>
haha whatever makes you sleep well :P
<alexgordon>
lol chrome doesn't let me access BFL's site, because cloudflare

oh, and if I'd paid for them individually, it'd have been $1,379 apiece.

hey, #ELLIOTTCABLE should be an Institution
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
let's buy a million dollars of bitcoin mining hardware and fork the blockchain.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
didn't somebody once calculate that it would only take, like, a five million dollar investment to *destroy* bitcoin?
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
I remember an article about this.

when was that lol
