popolon: its good to hear the upgrade went ok. I upgraded linaro-ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 and found the gnome session "fallback" had been replaced with gnome "flashback" - and i could not login. The linaro, lxde and xubuntu i could log back in - but no actual working ubuntu unity or ubuntu "flashback" sessions.

yeah
<wolfy>
so yes, I am sure

did you check checksums?
<wolfy>
yes, I did

maybe your download got corrupted
<Wessix>
ok

mmm
<Wessix>
enough power supply
<Wessix>
?
<Wessix>
i had the cubieboard2 powered by a weak power source and it made issues
<JohnDoe_71Rus>
try boot cb2 android from flash http://pastebin.com/tN227VEy why Failed to execute /dev/mmcblk0p3/init. Attempting defaults...
<wolfy>
the only 2 things I am not sure about are the sdcard ( it's a kingston which worked perfectly in a phone ) and the power supply ( it provides only 1.2 A)
<Wessix>
can you plug it to apc
<Wessix>
use the usb of a pc
<Wessix>
just for testing

normally that should server enough power

ok have to leave wish you luck!

<FR^2>
What kind of rechargeable battery pack could be used to power a cubieboard for some hours? ^^
<FR^2>
Hmm. A simple usb battery pack could be enough. 5V, 2A... Should suffice, I think.
<ttmrichter>
FR^2: I actually have powered mine off of a "power bank" for smartphones, so yes, as long as you can get the amperage on the output.
tinti has joined #cubieboard
<FR^2>
ttmrichter: Might be a bit of an issue, I'm running an sata ssd with my cubieboard. And I have no idea what power consumption such a thing as (as peak or on avarage...)
<ttmrichter>
Read the spec sheet for it? :)

Lithium polymer?
<mnemoc>
yes, charged by the same PMU that controls the A20
<mnemoc>
so it's a built-in ups
<mnemoc>
olimex did this since their first A13 board, but cubietech only added it in the CT (aka CB3)

mnemoc: Ah, okay, but the cb2 doesn't have this option, does it?
<mnemoc>
right
<mnemoc>
cb2 == cb1 + A20
<mnemoc>
cb3/ct is a new board, using all the power of the A20
<FR^2>
hmm :)
<mnemoc>
like 2GB of ram and Gb ethernet
<mnemoc>
also 12V for 3.5" drives
<FR^2>
Yes, a few weeks ago I thought about purchasing the ct, but then again... hey, I have my cb2 running, but I'm not yet really using it :/
<FR^2>
I'm still waiting for a way to attach it to that "motorola atrix laptop dock", but delivery of those adapters and cables takes quite some time
<FR^2>
Yes, very interesting concept. And with the hugh raspberry-pi-and-others community it might be interesting indeed
<FR^2>
Ah, btw: Power consumption of the sata ssd: 0.12Watts
<FR^2>
Am I calculating this wrong or is this nearly neglible?
<mnemoc>
main problem is to get someone living in china willing to invest and manufacture it.... maybe doing a prototype and then indiegogo it
<mnemoc>
that page is only a project proposal written from a user (me) perspective
<focus>
mnemoc: my thoughts were putting a cubieboard type board + lcd screen. Would have to develop a usb driver that blitzes data to cpu board through a USB link which then updates LCD. The cubieboard can have a sata which with software also becomes available as a USB drive.
<mnemoc>
feedback to make it more attractive to potential manufactures is highly welcomed
<mnemoc>
focus: my point was to do it device agnostic
<focus>
confused
<mnemoc>
the board/dongle living outside the lapdock
<mnemoc>
and using standard interfaces to connect both (hdmi, usb), and a VESA mount where to screw a 3d printed or similar docking for your favourite toy
<focus>
mnemoc: the stick lives outside the lapdock - but connects with 2 x USB to the lapdock
<focus>
one USB gets video, another gets you hd
<mnemoc>
hdmi on dongles is pretty standard, and doesn't burn your usb bw
<focus>
hdmi to lcd - expensive i believe
<mnemoc>
search for ANX7808
<mnemoc>
that's hdmi to eDP
<focus>
so get rid of hdmi - have a screen attaching through USB with a driver
<mnemoc>
usb is cpu driven, you won't get 1080p from a normal devboard/dongle via usb
<focus>
price of lcd $15, price of cubie $45 - suddenly lapdock
<mnemoc>
specially if you also use usb for storage
<mnemoc>
sure
<focus>
i'm thinking of cheapie heepeee lapdock
<mnemoc>
i'm thinking in a CE product for geeks with hdmi dongles and devboards
<focus>
my thought on that is someone ought to make netbooks again with A20 and 2GB RAM and a decent LCD
<focus>
otherwise the lapdock price and netbook price would be too close to each other
<focus>
i have 2 cubietrucks on order to try that option out
<mnemoc>
but the lapdock has a good display and it's reusable while the netbook displays are a bad joke
<focus>
lcd on order as well
<mnemoc>
both panels listed there 11.6 and 13.3 are 1080p and pretty cheap
<focus>
netbook - can have hdmi which negates its screen problems - just buy cheap with low res lcd and attach it to home tv through hdmi
<focus>
the 13" panels are about $75
<mnemoc>
we have different goals. for me a low res lcd is useless. i want portable good res
<focus>
tv + hdmi is $75
<mnemoc>
focus: search for those panels on taobao
<mnemoc>
tv is not portable
<focus>
hmm...
<focus>
you want high res video and interchangeable CPU boards
<focus>
the formlabs 3D printers are shipping - they can do you decent cases
akaizen has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<mnemoc>
i'm just a user who wrote a product proposal for anyone wanting to invest on it and sell me one
<focus>
that screen good price
akaizen has joined #cubieboard
akaizen has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
akaizen has joined #cubieboard
<mnemoc>
the 11.6 variant is sightly more expensive
<mnemoc>
but when buying in >1 qty things probably get better
eebrah_ has joined #cubieboard
<focus>
still a bit hard because cost of lcd + chippery + battery about same as similar quality netbook - if you put in default CPU like an A20 for about $30, then more value.
<focus>
then you got additional worries over connecting up io pins
<mnemoc>
that's why the board lives outside, behind the display, on a vesa mount
<mnemoc>
it also make it reusable for all your toys
<mnemoc>
present and future
<mnemoc>
so even if it's more expensive than a netbook, it's a long term investment
<focus>
so if i make a lapdock and it needs to connect to an eoma and cubieboard - how will that work (pardon my ignorance)
<mnemoc>
one at the time ;-)
<focus>
sure :D
<focus>
which connectors go where
<mnemoc>
hdmi -> hdmi; otg -> usb device; dc -> usb host charger
<mnemoc>
optionally sata -> esata
<focus>
no ethernet without pcmcia mboard
<mnemoc>
ethernet from the board or usb dongle
<focus>
ok - but the one usb otg can function to power up eoma and link to usb hub?
<mnemoc>
eoma has a mini engineering board that provides ethernet. all the other ethernet capable boards come with the rj45
<focus>
ok
<focus>
will the otg connector connect to a usb hub on the lapdock and expand the number of usb ports
<mnemoc>
lapdock = display + keybard + touchpad + battery + usb hub + usb charger
<mnemoc>
yes
shineworld has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
paulette has joined #cubieboard
<mnemoc>
the components of that lapdock are available from an internal usb hub
<focus>
in that case ethernet keyboard and mouse can come in through usb
<mnemoc>
yes
<focus>
that would make it worthwhile :)
<mnemoc>
:)
<mnemoc>
re-read the page now ;-)
<focus>
camera? usb again?
<focus>
touchscreen - usb again?
<mnemoc>
yes
<mnemoc>
but powered usb hub
<focus>
audio + mic - usb again?
<mnemoc>
audio comes in hdmi
<focus>
mic?
<mnemoc>
usb
<focus>
so how many powered usb approx gets internally made
<focus>
and will they all work at the same time?
<mnemoc>
see the list in the wiki page
<mnemoc>
yes, they should
<focus>
14 ports - 2 x 7 powered hubs
<focus>
mnemoc: in that case it looks easy to do if all 14 ports can be made to work without too many problems
<focus>
i would make it 4 x 4 ports - avoid one port destroying others
<mnemoc>
that's why I need EE feedback to improve the proposal ;-)
