<focus_it> popolon: some of those warnings are related to dopey coding. A var gets declared, but is not initialised, is used in function, but all with conditional statements, then when it leave the function, if none of the conditions came true, the function is exited with the var uninitialised - very dangerous crap coding.
<focus_it> fix warnings immediately i say - too difficult to fix it later and get it 100% correct

<popolon> I see a real difference for glmarks (that use opengl), already faster

<focus_it> wow!
<popolon> still a little bit slow
<popolon> there is really a need to convert all linux application from opengl to opengl es :)
<popolon> it will be good enough for most of them
<popolon> when this will be done
<popolon> there will be the need to convert them back to opengl, as every processor will probably manage full OpenGL in about ten years.
<popolon> ^^

<focus_it> xfce4 working, lxde working
<focus_it> kicad installed - schematic editor work, not sure about the rest - seems to be an older version to one i got

<popolon> nice :)
<popolon> which version of linaro did you use ? Isn't it the linaro 13.09 ?
<popolon> I believe there is gcc-4.8 optionaly on the official one ?
<popolon> but as it depend on raring here ?
<popolon> and as repository part of synaptic don't work, didn't tried to add repositories manually
<popolon> lh
<popolon> oh, now I remember I seen this few days ago
<focus_it> tomorrow i try the latest from this http://snapshots.linaro.org/raring/images/alip
<focus_it> (if get time)
HighJinx has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<popolon> oh, that's not the latest
<popolon> need to read about version
<popolon> I noticed than xscreensaver use the default GL
<popolon> but 1 or 2 years ago
<popolon> it converted all the modules from GL to GLES
<popolon> there is the option in configure
<popolon> but even when I pass it, it seems to compile with gl
<focus_it> what different between gl and gl es?
<popolon> so doesn't take full benefit of the material
<popolon> GL ES is a reduced version for embedded system
<popolon> Mali 400 GPU only support GL ES
<popolon> not Full GL
<focus_it> ah..
<popolon> so with GLES => full acceleration, with GL, only a little part is accelerated (and not really sure in fact)
<focus_it> what is mesa?
<focus_it> i get confused
<focus_it> i read gles is not compatible with mesa
<popolon> try to launch at the same time glmark2 and glmark2-es2
<popolon> you will clearly see the difference
<popolon> mesa is free+open source implementation of Open GL
<popolon> it support Open GL & OpenGL ES
<focus_it> i seeeeee!!!!
<focus_it> no wonder get so confused
<popolon> libEGL is a wrapper on OpenGL ES & OpenVG (& OpenMAX I believe)
<popolon> tried mypaint 1.1
<popolon> far usable
ricardocrudo has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<popolon> last mypaint git, goes from gtk2 to gtk 3, that's really yoo slow on cubieboard2 (for now)
<focus_it> why do some people say gles is not compatible with mesa if mesa is just an open source implementation of opengl es?
<focus_it> they must be wrong me thinks
HighJinx has joined #cubieboard
<popolon> of opengl & opengl es
<popolon> both
<popolon> don't know why people are wrong ?
<popolon> :)
<focus_it> i was trying to compile gambas3 and the guy there claimed gles is not compatible with mesa and I must remove mesa. So i did and it compiles. but that
<focus_it> won't make them right
<focus_it> must be some bug in their softare
<popolon> oh
<popolon> I understand
<popolon> for now, mesa doesn't support Mali binary driver
<popolon> but you can use lima driver with mesa
<focus_it> ok
<popolon> you have to add it, as that's not included in mesa
<popolon> so mesa conflict with binary mali implementation
<popolon> if I'm not wrong it also use mesa, but not the full official mesa tree

<popolon> and no, I don't think that's a fake ?
<Hackelin> ok lets buy one... :)
<Hackelin> what about mali running on cb2?
<Hackelin> was at holidays next 2 months
<Hackelin> s/next/ago
<Hackelin> i built a debian with acl kernel for testing samba4
<popolon> works fine for gl es application
<Hackelin> and forgot multimedia applications :p
<popolon> most application use opengl, there will not work at all or will be very slow
<popolon> multimedia works fine
<corpix_> why did someone decide to use non-opensource gpu for an open (arm) board ?
<popolon> depending on what you call multimedia
<Hackelin> media center
<popolon> corpix_, do you know an opensource gpu ?
<Hackelin> fullhd video decoding etc
<popolon> this works with cedarx closed driver
<popolon> doesn't use mali
<popolon> mali is GPU
<corpix_> popolon: s/opengpu/better supported
<popolon> cedarX DSIP
<corpix_> such as nvidia ion
<popolon> corpix_, nvidia are more closed than mali
<corpix_> okay, but better supported
<popolon> there is no open gpu on ARM today
<corpix_> can i buy some license for mali ?
<popolon> corpix_, did you tried it ?
<corpix_> YES
<popolon> on linux or android ?
<corpix_> if you mean nvidia ion
<corpix_> linux
<corpix_> works flawlessly
<popolon> with any opengl application ?
<corpix_> yes, very nice.
<popolon> did you run blender with it ?
<corpix_> no
<popolon> which application did you run ?
<corpix_> some open gl one
<Hackelin> ermsss
<popolon> which one ?
<corpix_> quake3
<popolon> ioquake3 ?
<Hackelin> i dotn understand... is mali suported with any linux cubie2 disttro?
<popolon> there is an opengl ES port
<popolon> Hackelin, cubieboard2 is 3 or 4 month old
<corpix_> well, to shorten it up, nvidia ion runs *pretty* nice.
<popolon> there is some hacked distro images that has mali hw acceleration support
<corpix_> that sounds nice.
<Hackelin> yes popolon i said i build a linux debian distro running asterisk and samba4 about 2 months ago
<popolon> corpix_, that's not really short
<Hackelin> saw cubiez etc but no mali suported
<popolon> ioquake3 that is opengl es port works probably fine on any arm gpu (arm mali, nvidia ion, vivante, snapdragon.....)
<Hackelin> so... no news about mali is this months?
<popolon> but mali is the gpu of cubie
<corpix_> what can we do to make it work ?
<popolon> use an image supporting it
<popolon> or add it by yourself on the used system
<Hackelin> ?
<Hackelin> are u kidding me?
<popolon> why for ?
<Hackelin> wait... having some problems understanding you

<Hackelin> yeah i know that but can u give me the name of a cubie2 distro supporting mali?
<popolon> you can add support easily
ephedrandrox has joined #cubieboard

<popolon> corpix_, don't know, i don't look films :)
<popolon> but there is 1080p support for xbmc yes, as far I know
<popolon> Hackelin, change your nick please ;)
<corpix_> yes, but for cubie2 with binary drivers ?
<popolon> corpix_, yes
<popolon> there is an opensource driver
<corpix_> okay.
<popolon> that works on some codecs,
<popolon> with mplayer
<Hackelin> perhaps betther if i change my brain
<focus_it> Hackelin: i order 2 this morning :D
<Hackelin> if easily why there is NOT any img supporting mali?
<popolon> hackelin => remember me hacker, so if you like to kack, that's not a big deal to copy paste some lines
<corpix_> how do i flash a cubieboard2 ?

<Hackelin> well lets read news on cubieforums
<popolon> corpix_, don't know never tried
<corpix_> i tried it all day.
<corpix_> popolon: so you use a sd card ?
<Hackelin> perhaps the best way to get updated
<popolon> I managed to use the linux one only one time
<popolon> and it had problem during flashing :)
<popolon> corpix_, I use a ssd
<popolon> on sata
<popolon> and boot on sdcard
<corpix_> popolon: i think i have some android on the nand, if i plug in ssd, will it boot ? how is the boot order ?
<popolon> sorry, but I only tried to use it few weeks ago
<Hackelin> nand sd sata
<popolon> corpix_, you need an image that support SATA
<corpix_> so if there is somethin on the nand, sata wont boot at all.
<popolon> and boot on it
<Hackelin> and u can boot linux on nand withput probs
<popolon> focus made one
<corpix_> ?
<corpix_> Hackelin: well, i used phoenixsuit 1.06. and it does not flash
<popolon> Hackelin, we said on sata
<corpix_> tried 1.0.7
<Hackelin> YOU said
<popolon> corpix_, the SoC try first to read µSD
<Hackelin> having some problems with me or my nick?
<popolon> if there is no boot on µSD it will read NAND
<popolon> and that's all
<popolon> after that nothing
<corpix_> well, i dont have an u-SD
