so... how many boards are there currently with A80?
<cubear>
Cubietruck A80, Optimus and that cubietech A80 are the ones I know about

yeah from another image it looks more like AC100, and it's next to the audio jacks

they should have used microSD slot...

maybe standard sd doesn't wear out so fast
<arokux>
wens: ah, ok.
<wens>
it's just a guess :p
<Turl>
wens: most "standard SD" sold here are just a microSD bundled with a plastic adapter :p
<arokux>
Turl: that is because notebooks have normally standard SD slots
<wens>
what about "extreme" speed SD cards? surely you get full sized ones?

have they added that small Serial NOR Flash maybe?

now I do not remember why this was a nice idea anymore. i think the idea was that there is no need for sd card if there is a u-boot in spi nor flash.
<patap>

<arokux>
ah, if there were spi nor flash the u-boot could be put there and we could boot of usb with no need for an sd card.

Cubietruck problem, Allwinner A20: ssh connection crashes on gigabit, 100M is fine. i can transfer on gbit for several seconds / minutes with IPERF , then the connection fails on ssh
Andy-D has joined #linux-sunxi
<Dodger78>
tried stock kernel 3.4 , 3.15 now 3.16rc1 . all fail ... any ideas ?
<Turl>
Dodger78: maybe your router/switch is going bad?
<Dodger78>
Turl: did try different cables ,direct connection all combinations that i could think of
<Dodger78>
my home net is cat7 wired and the tplink switch has never made a single problem
<Dodger78>
im trying since 4-5 month on cubietruck gigabit
<Dodger78>
should i see the problem on RX/TX stats with ifconfig if its ethernet ?
<Dodger78>
the transferrates i get are almost perfect (500M down, 300M up thats the chip limit) but then get stuck
<Turl>
Dodger78: does it fail if you don't run iperf?
<Turl>
maybe you're just starving the ssh process and causing a timeout
<froese>
is it only the ssh connection that gets down or the complete driver?
<Dodger78>
hmmm depends , it seems like it needs some load to fail ... but my owncloud gets stuck on gigabit also
<Dodger78>
i can always re-connect ssh or restart iperf
<froese>
maybe the keep-alive packets of ssh don't come through?
<Dodger78>
but, when owncloud runs "alone" and it needs to sync it crashes as well
<Dodger78>
after some seconds / minutes
<froese>
define "crash"
<Dodger78>
the connection dies . ssh just freezes and i need to reconnect. owncloud stops sync, i also need to stop/start client
<wickwire>
Dodger78: are you using a 2A power supply?
<Dodger78>
i got the 12v addon for a HDD, got 2,5 laptop hdd, powersupply is 12V/2A afaik
<Dodger78>
should be enough, i also tried a 60W 12V supply from my lipo load station
<wickwire>
does it also happen with that 2A supply, but without the hdd?
Andy-D has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<wickwire>
the reason why I ask is because I've had the same issue with my cubietruck
<Dodger78>
didnt try without hdd, but like i said with 12V 60W supply
<wickwire>
but I'm on a 1A power supply and read somewhere that it might make a difference
<wickwire>
oh ok - and in any case, I don't seem to have the ssh connection stalls with 100mbit routers/switches,
<wickwire>
only with gigabit
<Dodger78>
yes
<Dodger78>
im fine on 100mbit ,rockstable
<wickwire>
it may hold on for a while if transferring just a file with scp,
<Dodger78>
this is very weird.
<wickwire>
but if attempting to list a directory,
<wickwire>
instant stall and crash
<froese>
well, my ct is running for 28 days now over gigabit without a hick. but network-load is rather light.
<Dodger78>
my test is always running ssh and "top" on it , then use another conn and cause load
<Dodger78>
froese on gbit ?
Andy-D has joined #linux-sunxi
<froese>
yes
<wickwire>
I used a TP-Link gigabit router - happened there,
<Dodger78>
damn id love to get it running . do you also use 12v supply ?
<wickwire>
as well as a gigabit ISP router
<froese>
2.5A/5V
<Dodger78>
i got a TP-Link cheap one ....
<froese>
it's a netgear gs108e (using vlans)
<Dodger78>
sg1008D
<Dodger78>
i got the cheaper , unmanaged one
<Dodger78>
can i exclude a ethernet problem when looking at ifconfig RX/TX error stats ?
<Dodger78>
but GMAC driver of kernel 3.15 is assumed to be ok .... doesnt help for me
<froese>
well, if one ssh-session hangs and you can start a second one while the first still hangs that doesn't look like a network prob.
<froese>
oh, not 3.15 - sunxi-3.4
<froese>
(here)
<Dodger78>
im running cubieez 1.0 with 3.4 , but also selfcompiled 3.15 , 3.16 kernels
<Dodger78>
all are assumed to be working on gbit
<froese>
firewall? mtu?
notmart has quit [Quit: notmart terminated!]
<Dodger78>
its on LAN only ... my router is something else .... no firewall , mtu is ..... one sec
<Dodger78>
1500
<froese>
hmm...
<Dodger78>
hehe, two ssh connections and a kernel compile are enough to kill ssh
<froese>
oh, maybe cpu-load is the prob?
<Dodger78>
reconnect works, then just a "ifconfig" and frozen again
<froese>
(high cpu-load high power-requirement)
<Dodger78>
but the kernel compile doesnt crash, and like i said i even tried 12v 60W supply
<Dodger78>
or is the 12v hdd connection kit crap and i shall switch to 5V ?
<froese>
next thing would be high irq-load (missing irqs). but that should recover...
<Dodger78>
i cant see probs with ifconfig , some drops, , 0 errors , but the drops also were there on 100mbit
<froese>
(well, there were bugs in ssh where to many error messages would stall a connection but that was long ago)
<Dodger78>
2.000.000 packets , 4000 dropped rx
<froese>
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 02:15:08:03:1f:98
<froese>
only fd 0,1 and 2. not socket not pty. that's a pretty dead ssh process you got there.
bbrezillon has joined #linux-sunxi
<Dodger78>
the ssh conns have a strange state ..... LAST_ACK
<froese>
i mean: no socket, no pty.
<Dodger78>
i guess those are failing
<froese>
hmm... one end has closed the connection, the other not yet.
<Dodger78>
but i got another stuck console , now the conns looks normal
<Dodger78>
guess the timeout didnt happen yet
libv_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<froese>
you can disable the timeout somehow...
<Dodger78>
what if i got packet loss and would loose the tcp sequence numberin by that ?
<froese>
then it gets resent
<Dodger78>
ok .. so how does the tcp conn drop
libv has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<Dodger78>
is the ethernet layer the problem or do i got a "local" memory / software problem with tcp
<froese>
i have no idea. but i'm pretty sure that it's not the ethernet driver *g*
<Dodger78>
hmmm is there something like "ethernet ping" ? or can i check cubies stats for tcp conn problems ?
<froese>
well, the tcp state is not that much. netstat shows the most interesting stuff.
<Dodger78>
tcp does everything to retransmit / revive ok ? so as long as ethernet is "working" , it should be recovering
<froese>
right.
<Dodger78>
but the funny part is , that not only sshd drops , but standard owncloud http(s) as well
<Dodger78>
so i would say that sshd is out
<Dodger78>
WOW
<froese>
i know nothing of owncloud
<Dodger78>
my top just had a HEAVY data rush and is running again
<Dodger78>
i saw it flickering with full speed, processes flipping all over at high speed and now it tickers again in a 1 sec rythm
<froese>
strange...

<Dodger78>
have swap off afaik
<froese>
frequency scaler running havoc?
<Dodger78>
/swap/swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0
<Dodger78>
im using cpufreqd , yes
<Dodger78>
but this is not supported in 3.15 afaik . and there was the problem also
<froese>
just brainstorming - don't really think that
<Dodger78>
im scaling from 400mhz up to 1.2ghz ( yes thats overclock, but i limited to 1ghz as well didnt solve it) at 100M cubie is stable when compiing kernel with two jobs
bbrezillon has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<froese>
urgs - you are playing those games? and you're sure you got your voltages right?
<Dodger78>
no voltage increase . 1.2 is considered ok and i tested it . but i can configure it to standard and try again. i will fail same way, already tried it
<Dodger78>
several times
<froese>
yesterday or the day before someone posted a link where the voltages were raised by 50mV...
<froese>
1.2 for the whole freq-range?
<Dodger78>
sorry 1.2 ghz is max
<Dodger78>
no voltage change
<Dodger78>
i didnt change anything about voltage
<Dodger78>
i burned a kernel with two jobs for half n hour , no problem, uptime of a month or more
<Dodger78>
and tried standard freq for the problem as well
<froese>
i've no experience regarding the sensibility of the allwinner cpu to voltage vs freq. but it seems to be not that trivial.
<Dodger78>
also , the 3.15 kernel doesnt supp cpufreq, but i had same problems there
<froese>
same for dram frequency...
<Dodger78>
no problem , i configure the freq down and retry , but i will fail the same way
tomboy64 has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]

does the 3.15 even initialize all that stuff and doesn't simply take whatever u-boot set?

<froese>
ever tried stock sunxi-3.4 with sunxi-u-boot? that's what i'm running.
<Dodger78>
yes im currently on it
<Dodger78>
cubieez 1.0
<Dodger78>
3.4.90
<Dodger78>
patwood kernel
<Dodger78>
thats a little newer than the stock kernel
<Dodger78>
but this stock kernel also had the problem
<Dodger78>
im stuck again on standard frequency
<Dodger78>
can you use half duplex ? when i set half duplex im instantly disconnected via ethtool
<Dodger78>
be careful i cant access my cubie then anymore
<froese>
is half-duplex available on gigabit?!?
<Dodger78>
without powering off
<Dodger78>
dont know
<Dodger78>
but ethtool takes it
<froese>
afaik, gigabit is always full-duplex.
<Dodger78>
ok
<Dodger78>
i also heard of some soldering problems iwht cubie ... but since i can use iperf with high speeds ....
<Dodger78>
maybe i should try a TCP benchmark , not udp
<Dodger78>
iperf std is tcp ....
<froese>
i used nuttcp - but only its 10-second-tests
<Dodger78>
i have 2 dropped RX packets from 742
