Flashtek, I was used to use a LAN connection to have internet in my CB2 board running android.
<qemandro>
Flashtek, at now I need to use a WIFI dongle instead of LAN because there isn't a LAN connection
<Flashtek>
file wise...
<qemandro>
Flashtek, I've purchased a Mercury USB dongle 8188 and tried to use to get a internet connection but something goes wrong
<qemandro>
Flashtek, strangely when I attach the usb dongle the android switch wifi connection to hotspot mode and none works on my android (ping, browser, google play)....
<qemandro>
now I'm trying to remove p2p service : #service p2p_supplicant /system/bin/wpa_supplicant .......
<qemandro>
but I'm not sure of what I'm doing... surely
<qemandro>
Actually in dl.cubieboard.org there are three different sources packages (for android) and I don't know what is the latest (and I hope more fixed) package
<qemandro>
I'm able to build android from sources and run it in a SD, however
focus has joined #cubieboard
<qemandro>
without p2p service the wifi don't stay ON
<qemandro>
so the question is : WAS someone able to use a WIFI USB connection with Android and CB2 ?

Flashtek, you should check and recompile the kernel to activate all hardware present on your board.

And which modules do I need?

Flashtek, look the hardware details of the board and then look the dedicated driver in kernel. i.e. if you look for bluetooth to work, con in driver and activate bluetooth stack

Flashtek, here a trick: see what is on your laptop, pc, desktop and so on. look there what module are charced dinamically, so compile the same modules on cubietrak
<Flashtek>
Really?
<Flashtek>
How long have you been using linux then utente ?
* zombu2
waits for it
<utente>
since 1999
<Flashtek>
Awesome
<utente>
linux is linux everywhere, no matter ARM or X86
<utente>
im my usb stick asco for module ASDF in X86, it iwl ask the same ASDF also on ARM (cubieboard)
<utente>
of course the drivrr is compiled for proper hardware
<Flashtek>
Sure, different arch means potentially different module options and availability
<Flashtek>
What was your first distribution?
<utente>
so do as i told you. but if you are anewbie with linux and kernel recompiling, you cam experience some difficulties and frustation. dont give up.
<utente>
i did some survey in that age (redhat, mandrake, suse, slackware) but then i gone with debian.
<Flashtek>
What I get frustrated with its when systems that should work work a decent image and kernel simply don't
<Flashtek>
What do you run on your cubie?
<utente>
my own debian version :-)
<utente>
debian base with some "tricks" to speed her up :-)
<Flashtek>
Like a rocket up the arse?

haha now it is 293 installed packages with only 555M used on nand

<popolon>
utente, you should try arch
<utente>
popolon, why?
<popolon>
even if packages are not present, that's really easy to make new one from package file
<popolon>
I tried all other
<popolon>
I started archlinux one month ago
<popolon>
on cubieboard
<popolon>
that's really nice
<popolon>
there are optimization by arm architecture (ARMv5, v6 & v7)
<popolon>
and kernel by board
<popolon>
you can even upgrade cubieboard1/2 dedicated kernel)
<popolon>
now I use 3.4.90
<popolon>
upgrade by package
<utente>
i did my recompilation 3.4.90.
<utente>
tailored form my board + hardware i added
<popolon>
I would like to make mainline
<popolon>
ok :)
<utente>
good
<popolon>
now most things, but nand are supported
<popolon>
nand should be supported from mainline probably soon
<popolon>
there are already patch, they need to be accepted
<utente>
my debina is on nand already :-)
<popolon>
my arch too, with 3.4.90
<popolon>
I used debian and ubuntu before
<utente>
came back when you will add to your mainline a working version of xbmc :-)
<popolon>
I'm not really interested of it at HTPC, but more as a light network server, but could be nice to try it
<popolon>
I suppose that's for later in the mainline anyway
<popolon>
did you tried sunxi-next ?
<popolon>
that's a mainline like, but already patched, if I'm not wrong
<popolon>
there are no evolution on 3.4.x since 2 month, looks like devs work mainly on sunxi-next (to be verified)
<utente>
i fist recomèpiled xbmc for my video need, now im doing my server version.
<popolon>
arch has two version of nginx
<utente>
sunxi-next still not explored, i must do.
<popolon>
same for me
<popolon>
good night then, I go to sleep too
