<KnowResistance>
Hi Guys
<n3glv>
hello
<KnowResistance>
I have an issue I was hoping that someone could help me with
<KnowResistance>
Pink screen issue over hdmi for cubieboard2 A20
<KnowResistance>
Does anyone have any leads on this?
<n3glv>
on android?
Thorn has joined #cubieboard
<n3glv>
seen people say stuff about their nand got corrupted.. others about resolution issues on monitor
<KnowResistance>
Yeah it's an android build with the sdk cubieboard providied
<KnowResistance>
I heard about those issues
<KnowResistance>
But this is an issues that occurs even when plugged directly into a tv that supports both 1080p and 720p
<n3glv>
and if board is running a refresh that the tv does not like etc?
<KnowResistance>
I was thinking that maybe it has something to do with the display driver in the kernel but I don't really know anything about kernel tinkering
<n3glv>
or are you saying , all monitors/tv do this
<KnowResistance>
Just my home one so far, also when I use the HDMI to DVI connector to my monitor I get the same pink issues
<KnowResistance>
So pink on tv and monitor
<n3glv>
k
<KnowResistance>
I think it has something to do with RGB vs YUV
<n3glv>
I don't know the cause but personally would try another version / os etc
<n3glv>
yes, think it could be in the kernel / boot paramaters
<KnowResistance>
I read something about a boot file that initializes the screen, but i couldn't find that file in the sources or in the final build files....
<n3glv>
if you had shell or jtag access maybe could fix it
<n3glv>
ie not rely on graphics
<KnowResistance>
jtag?
<KnowResistance>
I have adb access
<KnowResistance>
I can fiddle around with that, but I am building from source so I can control what goes onto the nand
<zombu2>
serial console
<n3glv>
adb shell
<n3glv>
tada, serial access
<n3glv>
can even become root
<zombu2>
b b b but the serial console is so cool
<KnowResistance>
oh, the serial connectors that came with the board? The ones that connect directly to the i/o pins?
<n3glv>
KnowResistance: type 'adb shell'
<n3glv>
you are IN THE BOARD
<n3glv>
if you are, as you said, cooking your own android, you should have ROOT / full rw access to file system

yep, I can get in but what do I need to edit

if you know enough to make your own android build, I would expect you to know what to edit

<KnowResistance>
knowing how to set up an android build environment does not mean I know how the boot process works
<zombu2>
well you dhould
<KnowResistance>
how is that a logical link?
<KnowResistance>
I don't need people telling me the things that I should know, I am here for advice from people that know more than me. Can you guys just point me in the right direction?
<zombu2>
GO FUCK YOURSELF now move along you fuckin prick
rainbyte has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<n3glv>
lol
<KnowResistance>
You guys should really not be such douchebags
<zombu2>
how it calls into the forest huh
<n3glv>
you asked what to look for
<n3glv>
after being told
* n3glv
shrugs, now who can't read?
<KnowResistance>
The problem wasn't that I couldn't find a forum
kwon has joined #cubieboard
<n3glv>
ok, google?
<KnowResistance>
looked there too
<KnowResistance>
there are lots of people having the same issues
<KnowResistance>
no solutions
<KnowResistance>
get it
<n3glv>
ok
<n3glv>
so, try another distro?
<zombu2>
jeff stop wasting your time
<KnowResistance>
OK, guys I really appreciate your time and I think I am just not laying it down right.
<zombu2>
finally now go away
<KnowResistance>
OK zombu2, thanks for all your help. Since I am running android, the issue is with the linux kernel right... so getting another distro wouldn't fix my problem because i am building my own distro
<zombu2>
maybe you learned something
<KnowResistance>
not really
<KnowResistance>
maybe you did
<n3glv>
so. default kernel works?
<zombu2>
but just in case let me tell ya ... don t piss off the ppl that volunteer to help out
<n3glv>
piss off / or piss ON
<zombu2>
well whatever fits your bill
<zombu2>
but knowing you you prolly take the latter
<KnowResistance>
default kernal doesn't work it seems, problems with the graphics driver I guess.
<n3glv>
so, the cubieboards sunxi or whatever, image don't work?
<KnowResistance>
one did, others didn't but the sdk they provide works but has this pink problem on my screens
<KnowResistance>
It might be the RGB/YUV issues or like you said the refresh rate
<n3glv>
well, I came from raspberry pi stuff, and was SHOCKED at how raw/alpha this stuff is
<KnowResistance>
you mean as a finished product?
<KnowResistance>
I know that PI has been around for longer right, how come you came to cubieboard?
<n3glv>
cubietruck
<n3glv>
MUCH more power (supposedly) and sata
<n3glv>
wanted to run the one thing that it seems is futile, xbmc media center
<n3glv>
so it's a waste of $100
<n3glv>
would sell it right now at a loss
<KnowResistance>
Yeah, I think the hardware is good but the software is far from where it needs to be.
<n3glv>
do you know the term 'neckbeard'?
<KnowResistance>
yeah
<n3glv>
the kind of devs / forum ppl that assume you are already nearly their equal in skill / background / knolegee?
<n3glv>
that is my opinion of 95% of the cubietruck devs
<KnowResistance>
lol
<n3glv>
the type that also sets MAX RES for every gfx card by default
<n3glv>
vs a low-res everyone can use and then adjust UPWARD
<n3glv>
fucking tards
<KnowResistance>
agree, but the hardware is good.
<n3glv>
depends
<KnowResistance>
I was lured in by 1080p promises
<n3glv>
have yet to get the fbturbo / mali stuff to work
<n3glv>
followed same pages as zombu2
<n3glv>
nothing
<n3glv>
still a toad on xbmc
<n3glv>
useless
<n3glv>
someone want it for $75+real shipping?
<n3glv>
ie usa flat rate box
<KnowResistance>
do you think the fbturbo drivers could be causing my issues?
<n3glv>
include a 16gb class 10 sd
<n3glv>
there is some other fb thing
<n3glv>
I forget
<n3glv>
is there a modules file that you can edit?
<n3glv>
strip out or comment out drivers?
<KnowResistance>
I don't know much about how the kernel works, I'm looking into it
<n3glv>
ok, on linux there is /etc/modules
<n3glv>
and modprobe etc
<n3glv>
insmod / rmmod
<KnowResistance>
I think there is something I can use to check via adb shell... "adb shell lsmod"
<KnowResistance>
or some .config files in the kernel that enable modules
<n3glv>
adb shell should get you a prompt, at that point you are logged into droid
<n3glv>
there is a root ver of adb shell iirc
<n3glv>
I'm not an android hacker, zombu2 is
<KnowResistance>
Thanks for you time Jeff
<zombu2>
bummer isn t it
<KnowResistance>
I found what I'm looking for

bigx, I suppose the procedure is the same
<popolon>
you need a recent linux-sunxi kernel (that support nand)
<popolon>
there is still work in progress for DMA support, that should release CPU usage for NAND
<popolon>
and allwinner boot (sunxi boot only work on SD for now)
<popolon>
nand-part must be used to manage NAND partition, so you need this tool during the process too.

<popolon>
could someone confirm that mac address start by 02-49-02
<popolon>
?
<popolon>
don't know if that's allwinner specific or automagically generated
<mnemoc>
popolon: some board include an eeprom for this, but the CB doesn't

mnemoc, thanks I will look at the page. After several distro, mine looks fixe now, as I use it to push it's IP adress from DHCP server, probably have the answer on this page.

thx popolon i'll give it a try then
<popolon>
there is perhaps also ready-made arch NAND-images flashable by livesuit ?
