<rneese> ok
<rneese> if the nanad was friend your board woudl not boot at all
<rneese> because the boot loadedr lives in nand
<rneese> so what you do is get the base load im
<rneese> lad it on sd
<rneese> load it on sd
<rneese> then you boot up via sd and apt-get update
<rneese> apt-get install cubie-nanadinstalll
<rneese> or get one of the nand flash imgs
<rneese> and then reload the nand

<rneese> like I said if the nand was fried you would not be able to boot a sd
<rneese> as uboot lives on nanda and the os on nandb
<rneese> <rneese> the other thing is the get the usb to seriel console adapter
<rneese> <rneese> and to watch th boot loader for the error

hypno__ has joined #cubieboard
<quitte> I couldn't put a load on the battery by another circuit, either without confusing the AXP202. So there is no straight forward way to keep external sata or even usb storage up and running until the data is saved in case of a power outage

<FR^2> quitte: And in the responses they also talk about simply adding a hw clock via i2c
<quitte> FR^2: i don't care about the rtc. but there might be some interesting information. what I really need to know how exactly the Li-Bat terminals are connected
<quitte> or some other idea how to get decent amperage from that battery for some time
<FR^2> quitte: Well, earlier cubieboards (cb1, cb2) simply don't have a hw clock.
<quitte> FR^2: to clarify: the cubietruck has a pair of terminals to connect a rechargable lithium battery that supposedly can keep the system running in case of a power failure
<FR^2> quitte: Aaah, okay, then I misunderstood :)

<quitte> The 5V rail on the truck is bad
<quitte> which doesn't surprise me - since I couldn't make out any 5V source in the schematic except for the supply
<quitte> I'm surprised usb is kind of working
<quitte> ah. there's tcs9708 for the usb 5V.
<zombu2> hmm got no issues with usb
<quitte> zombu2: yes. I found the step up converters tcs9708. at least that's what I assume those are. haven't found a datasheet, yet. however the sata 5V according to my multimeter are unusable with any of the ways I tried powering the thing
<quitte> (thing meaning cubietruck)
<zombu2> again no issues with sata power either
<zombu2> i got 3 hdd's hooked to usb and one to sata
<zombu2> keyboard mouse etc
<zombu2> but then i got a 10A psu hooked to it
<quitte> zombu2: do you have a multimeter? at the sata power connector I get the battery voltage and nothing more. right now it's powered via the otg usb connector and I'm measuring 4.2V
<zombu2> oh yeah don t use the oitg
<zombu2> otg
<quitte> i can try the other input again...
<zombu2> use a 5V 2.5A psu in the back
<zombu2> i actually got my psu set to 5.2V
<quitte> 4.94 V at the supply jack
<zombu2> thats odd
<quitte> 4.73 at the sata supply
<zombu2> hmm 1 sec
<quitte> so direct supply is better but still not erfect. either way it won't do the trick on battery power
<zombu2> well did you consider upping the voltage on the input
<zombu2> like i said i run 5.2v on the input
<zombu2> how many amps is your psu
<quitte> ah right. so that's why the silkscreen says 5.2 ;)
<zombu2> it does?
<zombu2> lol
<quitte> amps won't help. it's the .25 V that overcome the drops
<zombu2> well if yo got a weak psu you will drop
<rneese> ok I ordered a rtc/a temp/humity sensor and a few more parts to get
<quitte> I still hope that I can find a way to get the sata 12V and 5V from the battery somehow. I like the idea of getting an USV basically for free.
<rneese> goingto build my own weather station I can add to a repeator
<rneese> and use the cubie for it
<zombu2> quitte what is the amps on the psu
<zombu2> rneese cool
<rneese> then I have to add in gprs/gps
<quitte> zombu2: for the dc-jack it's whatever the usb out of my computer provides and it drops, as i said, to 4.95
<zombu2> that will not work
<zombu2> usb is only 500-750ma
<quitte> the other one is 5V/2A connected to usb otg
<quitte> so both are lower than 5.2V
tomcheng86 has joined #cubieboard
<quitte> zombu2: why not?
<zombu2> power from usb otg is always gonna be restricted
<quitte> it does charge the battery
<quitte> so that's fine
<zombu2> ok
<quitte> and if I'm not mistaken I can put a load on the battery directly. driving a 5V and 12V boost convertor for sata?
tomcheng76 has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<zombu2> you need to start with the corect amps
<zombu2> 2.5A on the power jack not ota
<zombu2> everything below will not work right
<zombu2> if you want 12 you need a buck converter that can put out enough amps too
<quitte> okay. I'll keep that in mind and take care of that once there is a permanent ac connection
<zombu2> pc usb port will not work right not enough amps
<zombu2> i garantee if you give it the right amps it will work
<quitte> no. amps is just fine. it's the voltage of usb that is just too low
<zombu2> if you drawing more amps then you can supply voltage will drop
<quitte> yes. but you need to compüensate for diode drops. that's why you need 5.2 to begin with
<zombu2> drops are marginal
<zombu2> but yeah i never paid attention to that i set it to 5.2 just in case heh
<zombu2> i made i psu that can take 5-36V input and put out 5.2V at 10A
<quitte> 4.94V drop to 4.73 here. that puts the sata 5V from within spec to out of spec
<rneese> why doesit seem like only the big financed boi's get to make the really fun toys
<zombu2> lol the psu i made was 20$ in parts
<rneese> the other project I thought of was a beam spreader
<zombu2> can t be too expensive to buy the partgs on ebay/amazon
<zombu2> the other day i made a bluetooth sprinkler system out of a hc-06 arduino bluetooth module
<zombu2> those damn 5$ modules have 11 gpio ports if you reflash the firmware
<quitte> what I don't quite understand is how the battery voltage gets on the VCC-5V rail when there is no external power
<quitte> unfortunately the battery is not in the a10 schematic
<zombu2> unicorn magic with fairy dust lol
<zombu2> theres prolly a connection somewhere
<quitte> .2V drop some schottky diode? would be nice to know for adding in the boost convertors

<quitte> U1 is the tiny square between the 12V dc in and the sata data connector, right?
<buZz> hmmm good point
<buZz> i should boost my cubie's psu to 5.2
<quitte> i'm fairly sure that, on the truck, I should measure 5.2V across the capacitor pair between the 12V in and the sata data connector. however i don't. anyone willing to check on his?
