<kerio> DocScrutinizer05: what's that
mvaenskae has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> kerio: useless shit Rigol scope offers via LAN
<DocScrutinizer05> for that useless nonsense they run a webserver (sure no apache) on their DS1054Z
<kerio> yeah but why u mad tho
<DocScrutinizer05> I was happy to link my new o'scope to my LAN. Then I went mad realizing that this earns me zilch
<kerio> rofl
<wpwrak> DocScrutinizer05: naw, i'm sure you can talk to it also from linux
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah, via IRC ;-P
<DocScrutinizer05> I just wonder if they run ircD7
<mvaenskae> cheers everyone :)
<wpwrak> how else would they connect to the global rigol botnet ? :)
<DocScrutinizer05> at least printscreen feature (to USB flash drive <=8GB!!) comes in handy
<mvaenskae> what's the topic? ;)
<mvaenskae> ehhh, that sounds creepy D:
<DocScrutinizer05> ((botnet)) I already wondered how to set up my firewall, noticing the dang rigol got (and displayed) DNS IPs via DHCP
<mvaenskae> sorry, my pinky missed to shift D:
<wpwrak> if you're in a hurry, you can probably use my usbtmp implementation out of the box
<wpwrak> but check the programming manual for higher-level stuff, which is likely to have changed
<wpwrak> mvaenskae: the toy santa UPS brought for DocScrutinizer05 :)
<mvaenskae> wpwrak: 1gig ram chips? :o
<DocScrutinizer05> mvaenskae: huh?
<mvaenskae> i thought you were to receive them this week?
<DocScrutinizer05> I got "the copyright" on 1GB RAM topic ;-)
<mvaenskae> DocScrutinizer05: my precious! gimme!
<DocScrutinizer05> wpwrak: I just received an offer for another 500
<wpwrak> mvaenskae: that's ram chips are what santa brought for nikolaus. DocScrutinizer05 got a toy with blinkenlights, which is of course better :)
<DocScrutinizer05> HEHEHE indeed
<mvaenskae> hm, samsung... the same as apple uses... oh my, we are going mainstream ;)
<DocScrutinizer05> though I'm extremely happy about Nik being happy with the PoP168
<mvaenskae> so, what did he get?
<wpwrak> hmm, guess we'll get sued by apple ... for using samsung parts ...
<DocScrutinizer05> mvaenskae: we will relabel them for you ;)
<mvaenskae> DocScrutinizer05: sämsüng?
<DocScrutinizer05> Sangsum
<mvaenskae> shameson?
<mvaenskae> oh wow... that one fits really well into the asian society :D
<DocScrutinizer05> meh! I just will scrap off the printing and replace it by a large Neo900 Logo
<DocScrutinizer05> second line "WeDidIt"
<mvaenskae> how many will we get?
<DocScrutinizer05> so far we got 70
<DocScrutinizer05> for evaluation.
<mvaenskae> and in total?
<DocScrutinizer05> ???
<DocScrutinizer05> I won't buy a 1000 paperweights
<mvaenskae> i assume you have some numbers on how many you will need to order
<DocScrutinizer05> well, all our targets so far been for 1000 devices total
<DocScrutinizer05> but we didn't source any components for the complete batch yet (except the display conns), we got no funds for this
<mvaenskae> there will be enough components to create 1000 devices for production or just some components will be for 1000 and the rest can be given better bounds?
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry?
<DocScrutinizer05> please rephrase
<DocScrutinizer05> the original idea been: offer regular sales webshop, collect payments for a 4 weeks, then start sourcing for all components needed and start MP. For some components however this won't fly, either since they got unbearably long lead time (3 months, 5 months, unclear), or - like the RAM PoP - it's hard to source them at all and we basically need to get them whenever we actually can. Been searching for those critters ince a year now, now we
<DocScrutinizer05> have an option to get some (maybe 1000)
<mvaenskae> DocScrutinizer05: i assume some components, as the ram chips, have a minimum order quantity of 1000 units whereas others are less strict on having such a minimum order; as there are less than 1000 orders currently will you aim for 1000 built devices (meaning using every component) or will you leave some components then just as extra and only build as many devices as there are orders?
<DocScrutinizer05> so, to solve this deadlock/dilemma, I started to plan a "buy your risk parts" campaign some 3 weeks ago. The idea is: we list all those "problematic" parts (RAM, etc), we give an estimation what they will cost *at max* to source, our customers order those part kits (and own them, though they usually stay at our factory for later production)
<mvaenskae> ah, this is an interesting idea
<DocScrutinizer05> mvaenskae: we will build $orders * $factor-for-warranty-and-late-orders
<DocScrutinizer05> for now we planned for a 1000 devices batch, though we might reduce that when it turns out our funds from orders will not suffice
<DocScrutinizer05> for "cheap" parts like the display conns that's a nobrainer, like "meh! get a one kilo of them critters! who cares"
<mvaenskae> 1000 devices sounds nice :)
<DocScrutinizer05> for stuff like the 1GB RAM PoP it starts causing headache. Get a 500? or 1000? then in the end use 500 of our 1000 and throw away the other 500? or get late orders for 2500 devices and say "sorry we only got 500 RAM chips" ?
<DocScrutinizer05> and what the heck will we do when we order 2500 of each part, but the very last mission critical part is not available a single piece more than 389?
<mvaenskae> DocScrutinizer05: how have the sales on the openmoko progressed?
<DocScrutinizer05> huh?
<DocScrutinizer05> openmoko is no more
<mvaenskae> i think for us customers having some backlog would be nice as accidents can happen and we might want to order then another board
<mvaenskae> but obviously that is more risky for you and expensive
illwieckz has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<DocScrutinizer05> it is more risky and expensive for *you*, the customers
<DocScrutinizer05> I "only" can go bankrupt
<DocScrutinizer05> what backlog?
<DocScrutinizer05> please rephrase
<wpwrak> mvaenskae: we'll have to produce some spares anyway. first, because there's never 100% yield. and then for warranty, have spares for user-destroyed units, etc.
<wpwrak> DocScrutinizer05: i think he meant a reserve, spares
<DocScrutinizer05> aah
<DocScrutinizer05> we calculate a ~15% for warranty and yield so far
<mvaenskae> yeah, i meant extra devices not currently ordered but scheduled for building :)
<DocScrutinizer05> when we got 500 real orders, we will build a 580 devices
<mvaenskae> isn't bankruptcy prettty bad though?
<DocScrutinizer05> plus some more if we can afford, depending on how much we dare to gamble our small margin for additional devices to sell
<DocScrutinizer05> sure it is
<DocScrutinizer05> but I don't really care about "expensive", I can't pay more than I earn
<mvaenskae> true that :)
<DocScrutinizer05> I care about expensive only to make devices cheap for you
<DocScrutinizer05> afk, working for some BB-xM with 1GB RAM to happen before xmas, so we could test our proto_V2 with final memory footprint on brainboard already
<DocScrutinizer05> Oksana: ^^^ this starts to be enough stuff for a tiny newsletter

<Oksana> Ok, you got DS1054Z digital oscilloscope, to be able to debug electronics malfunctions. Currently, the only way to get info out of it is via screenshots and USB flash drive. What about UltraScope software - is it Windows-only buggy proprietary thingy?
<wpwrak> the protocols are documented, so it shouldn't be too hard to get data out of the scope. i did that with my ds1102cd. never touched any windows perversion ;-)
norly has joined #neo900
<wpwrak> ds1054z is two generations newer than my ds1102cd, so the higher layers should be fairly different, but at least usbtmc should be the same. though it may have different quirks/bugs (lab instruments rarely implement "clean" protocols)
mva has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<wpwrak> in terms of real-life use, screenshots are the most important feature. downloading waveforms can be useful at times, but that's << 1/10 the times you just want a screenshot
<Oksana> Good morning :-)
<wpwrak> but it's nice if the screenshot can be gotten without having to move usb thumb drives around. alas, my ds1102cd is slowly dying, and usb communication was one of the early victims. so instead of just running my screen.py that would take a sceenshot, i now have to do the thumb drive dance. (usb host is still working)
<wpwrak> ah yes, when the sun sets, it's morning in .oz ;-)
