<wpwrak> hmm, i have an indecent request to make ...
<wpwrak> there's that document, the pn544 "objective data sheet" ....
<wpwrak> ... it comes with the kind wording "secured, strictly confidential information" ... and, you may guess by now, it's rather hard to find on the intertubes
<wpwrak> there's a copy on baidu that's almost usable. unfortunately, only almost
<wpwrak> the problem is that they don't let me have the pdf (or i'm too stupid to figure out how to get it) but insist rendering it in the browser
<wpwrak> and there some things are unreadable. and i can't get beyond page 51.

<wpwrak> so, if anyone is good at finding hidden treasures, i'd appreciate some help :)

<wpwrak> aah, of course ! now it's clear :)
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah ;-P
<DocScrutinizer05> I guess you need a patient Chinese to get that document. Maybe it's only available for baidu members
<DocScrutinizer05> err, my parser emits smoke signals on >>Like the device lock, replacing bits of that if doing so is easier than trying to keep it is how it should be done.<<

<Oksana> About use-cases: I was walking outdoors, 3.5 hours, 7.5 km (yes, very slow: lizards running around, and such). Cellular on (2G), WiFi off, GPS on-off (modrana), camera on-off. Used up almost two batteries (well, second battery still had 2.25 hours of cellular life in it). Battery temperature was 45 degrees Celsius ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> battery temp? how did you get that value?
<DocScrutinizer05> and yes, downloading lots of stuff (map tiles for modrana) via 2G in a somewhat rural area quickly can cut through a battery with the up to 2W TX power the 2G is constantly using
<DocScrutinizer05> ...constamtly using for extended data traffic
<DocScrutinizer05> GPS also isn't exactly an energy saver
<DocScrutinizer05> backlight neither. And when your "WLAN off" means "WLAN searching for AP" then that also can eat *lots* of energy, that's why maemo does a scan only every 5 min in fastest WLAN config setting
<DocScrutinizer05> the WLAN receiver is amazingly greedy, only tamable by duty cycling, which is what power savings mode does and what maemo "scan for WLAN every X minutes" also does
<DocScrutinizer05> it seems WLAN _not_ associated to AP is the most power hungry operation mode of WLAN

<DocScrutinizer05> btw the BT A2DP dropouts are by exactly those WLAN scany
<DocScrutinizer05> scans*
<DocScrutinizer05> I never had any other dropouts
<DocScrutinizer05> and I only have those when not associated to an AP
<DocScrutinizer05> seems coexistence temporarily shuts down BT A2DP streaming to avoid BT spoiling the channel the WLAN just wants to scan
<DocScrutinizer05> ideally my MP3 player would cooperate with PA to detect A2DP streaming and would disable WLAN scans for new APs during that

<DocScrutinizer05> Oksana: but whar specific new usecase is that?
<DocScrutinizer05> ooh, camera also is greedy, particularly the focus
<DocScrutinizer05> I think it can eat up to 150mA for energizing the magnel coil that moves the lens
<DocScrutinizer05> magnet*
<Oksana> Lots of time outdoors in hot weather? Not sure. Hmm, does camera's autofocus suspend itself when camera is in background? It should, but I heard suspicious noises from camera when looking at modrana.
<DocScrutinizer05> yes
<DocScrutinizer05> it should only activate focus when you half-press the trigger button
<DocScrutinizer05> unless of course you use video camera, in which case I dunno what trigger does - maybe it's always-on then
<DocScrutinizer05> generally suspicious clicking noises are from lens hitting a stopper when it tries to focus but fails
<Oksana> No video. For a very long time. So, suspicious clicking noises mean that it tries to change focus when it shouldn't. May it be related to Live Focus app being installed?
<DocScrutinizer05> HAHA, original cameraiu does a audio click when it finds focus
<DocScrutinizer05> just noticed that on a firefox N900 I picked to check the lens click
<DocScrutinizer05> I'm pretty sure nicocam doesn't do that
<Oksana> Is that one of system sounds?
<DocScrutinizer05> yes
<DocScrutinizer05> ok, sorry Nico. I diabled "sound effects" in nicocam
<DocScrutinizer05> :-D
<DocScrutinizer05> I think that "enable sound effects" option works so great I forgot about it
<DocScrutinizer05> but camera itself has another bug: when fucus helper light is too bright (e.g. fogusing on a white sheet of paer with some chars on it so focus can/could work), then when you're pretty close to paper and paper is realy bright white, the cam's view finder flashes white two times and then stays dark for a second or so, and of course doesn't focus
<DocScrutinizer05> omg, I think I should have a nap, judging by my spelling
<DocScrutinizer05> the above mentioned bug is reproducable with both nicocam and original cameraui
<DocScrutinizer05> only when you try focusing in sufficiently dark environment so it enables focus helper light
<DocScrutinizer05> jonwil: THAT wpuld be a great target for RE: camera drivers
<jonwil> Camera drivers are FOSS. Whats not FOSS is userspace blobs that do image processing etc.
<DocScrutinizer05> that's what I meant
<jonwil> They are very complex to reverse engineer and probably full of FPU and things.
<DocScrutinizer05> obviously somebody must do that focusing
<DocScrutinizer05> well, maybe we at least could do a dummy that has all the interfaces and data pathes?
<DocScrutinizer05> in a sense of "when you replace that nasty blob by *this* then you'll lose a lot of nice stuff like X, Y, focusing(?), Z and some picture quality that the blob manages to force into the otherwise not so excellent camera, but at least you can use the built in camera as usual and it take sort of a picture"
* DocScrutinizer05 idly wonders if it's been those blobs that got replaced by improved versions in fcam and blessN900
<DocScrutinizer05> iirc fcam was a FOSS project supported by Nokia academy or sth
ReqGame has joined #neo900
<jonwil> IIRC the blobs plug into gstreamer
<DocScrutinizer05> and IIRC PR1.2 or 1.3 adopted the fcam drivers replacing the old ones, right?
<jonwil> well whatever may be the case PR1.3 of Fremantle still has blobs for all that image processing stuff.
<DocScrutinizer05> n8
