yeah it's not surprising lol. i just found it funny when i went to bed, and then to work, and then there still wasn't anything new

<JSharp>
well, here's a general question, if you're bored. Are there any tooling packages for making "spare" FPGA devboards in one's possession available remotely to other openfpga hackers for testing (etc)?
<JSharp>
it'd depend on what they want to do -- but if they just want to flash some bitstream files and see if they brick the thing (obviously, would need some control facility to un-brick it); it might be much less annoying to test RE'd bitfile formats on exotic chips
<JSharp>
admittedly I haven't googled the questionspace, hence the 'lazy'web
<awygle>
interesting thought
<awygle>
there are some things like that for MCUs
<awygle>
mostly in the Linux space (which i guess makes them MPUs?) but some smaller
<awygle>
Lava from Linaro is the main s/w suite i'm aware of
<awygle>
probably would need some hacking to support FPGAs usefully tho
<davidc___>
"ssh" ?
<davidc___>
in all seriousness, SSH would be plenty
<awygle>
something something security maybe?
<davidc___>
but the main risk is a bitstream that damages the FPGA due to internal conflicts, or configuring something incorrectly for I/O
<davidc___>
awygle: heh, I'd trust the linux user privs model far more than any kind of interaction with vendor tooling
<awygle>
yeahhhhh on second thought "I set my CoolRunner on fire by shorting all the routing muxes" is a lot less funny when it's on somebody's desk and they're on vacation and don't get home for three days
<davidc___>
awygle: or its a 5k artix :P
<awygle>
davidc___: i wouldn't trust either honestly :P too many exploits and container escapes and blah blah blah
<awygle>
but i'm coming from a place of pretty profound ignorance so *shrug*
<awygle>
if i knew anything about security i'd probably be at defcon!
<davidc___>
awygle: yea... eh. its more that someone has actually tried to harden the linux kernel once upon a time
<davidc___>
whereas the vendor tools? "Naaah. Run it as root. makes it easier."
<awygle>
i started a new job this week. we run visual studio as root to do development. kmn.

JSharp: I believe OpenWrt/LEDE has some infra for doing router firmware CI testing on live hardware.
