first, you can still use HTTPS on a port other than 443. I would of course recommend sticking with https.

if you want to be on port 443, you'd need to set up sniproxy somewhere to distinguish between your two servers based on the request and forward appropriately

I'm pretty excited about https://github.com/sandstorm-io/sandstorm/pull/1520 . I figure we can probably get the rest of the packages brought into JSCS compliance by the time Meteor 1.3 is out, and then we can start using ES6 modules, which will let us stop relying on global functions, which will in turn let us use ESlint effectively to warn about scoping/audit for needlessly-global things.

In theory I'm a Debian developers, which is why vagrant-spk works the way it does.

asheesh: Oh yeah, btw re: the nix + spk, it'd probably make more sense to hook nix up directly to spk than to vagrant-spk, unless I've misunderstood something

But yeah, if you really don't need cross-platform, then nix+spk is a pretty solid combination.

I'd probably end up merging some variant of it into vagrant-spk so non-Linux users can enjoy it, and then make vagrant-spk be willing to drop the 'vagrant' part of you're already on Linux.

I think doing it this way (nix + spk) is smarter than doing (nix + vagrant-spk) first, because IMHO you don't want to be bound to any vagrant-spk design decisions first, and then you could make something you could distribute without me/zarvox (vagrant-spk maintainers) having to approve/merge your work.
