asheesh changed the topic of #sandstorm to: Welcome to #sandstorm: home of all things sandstorm.io. Say hi! | Channel glossary: "i,i" means "I have no point, I just want to say". b == thumbs up. | Public logs at https://botbot.me/freenode/sandstorm/ & http://logbot.g0v.tw/channel/sandstorm/today
<asheesh> mnutt__: Yuck, it should IMHO; see also "service-config" in new-ish vagrant-spk, https://github.com/sandstorm-io/vagrant-spk/blob/master/vagrant-spk#L544
<asheesh> We should "just" also take over php.ini.
<mnutt__> I kind of wonder if the web publishing helper should just be part of the vagrant-spk stacks?

<asheesh> mnutt: The web publishing helper that people have to compile themselves? Yeah, probably. I think the best way to do that is to add the C++ code to sandstorm-http-bridge.c++ and tell people, 'Go run system("/sandstorm-http-bridge /var/www") or whatever, in your language, or get some Cap'n Proto bindings if you prefer'
<asheesh> Adding it to sandstorm-http-bridge.c++ seems to satisfy me, and Kenton, and everyone else, but I haven't had a specific good moment in which to do so yet.
<mnutt> that sounds even better.
<mnutt> compiling the helper is a little bit of a pain, but less so than trying to get capnp bindings working with node > 0.10 :-/
<asheesh> Yeah. |:
home has joined #sandstorm
<asheesh> mnutt: Is it possible that I can interest you in writing a v1 of that, btw? (-:
joshbuddy has joined #sandstorm
<mnutt> right now sandstorm-http-bridge arguments look like [port] -- [app]
<mnutt> would you expect it to be invoked as `./sandstorm-http-bridge /var/www` or `./sandstorm-http-bridge publish /var/www` ?
<kentonv> mnutt: FWIW there is a "node4" branch of node-capnp
<mnutt> oh, awesome. I didn't know that, I'll check it out
<kentonv> although it was a little crashy when I tried it
<kentonv> and I haven't had time to fully debug
<kentonv> but the tests pass with modern node
<kentonv> if it crashes and you can get me a stack trace that would be amazing. I was trying to use it in atom and had no idea where to start when it told me "the editor has crashed, press OK to reload".

<asheesh> mnutt: I am thinking: "./sandstorm-http-bridge publish /var/www"
<mnutt> cool
<asheesh> ./sandstorm-http-bridge getPublicId
jadewang has joined #sandstorm
<asheesh> Maybe worth prefacing some of that as:
<mnutt> looks like MainBuilder has a handy addSubCommand
<asheesh> Maybe maybe: ./sandstorm-http-bridge hack-session-context getPublicId
<kentonv> hmm, IIRC the way I have it written, you can't have sub-commands unless you only have sub-commands.
<asheesh> 8000 is a sub-command!!
<mnutt> nooo
<mnutt> hah
<kentonv> asheesh: 8000 is not the first arg
<kentonv> there's a -p in there
<kentonv> or something
<kentonv> I think
<asheesh> -please
<asheesh> (anyway, that's good to know, and yeah, I was mostly joking)
<mnutt> unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's a -p, it's just a positional argument
<kentonv> we could say you have to create a symlink called sandstormctl or something, and invoking through that symlink triggers different behavior
dvn has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]
<kentonv> hmm
<mnutt> also, as we're invoking it here, it's not really an http bridge
<kentonv> well I think the symlink approach would be a good idea. Users don't even have to know it's the same binary.
<kentonv> which probably means they'll be less confused?
<mnutt> I just mean is there any reason to use the same binary rather than just two binaries?
<kentonv> there is, yes. The binary has to be statically-linked since we have no idea what userspace libs will be present. Two statically-linked binaries would end up being highly redundant.
<mnutt> ah, got it
home_ has joined #sandstorm
<kentonv> The `sandstorm` and `spk` commands installed by Sandstorm actually symlink to the same binary. :)

<phildini> morning sandcats! I pushed another version of Contact Otter with some bug fixes. Just a heads-up for things in the queue.
<simonv3> hey phildini, I was actually wondering what your plan is for importing contacts?
<simonv3> dwrensha: visited the link
<simonv3> it said “Testing Piwik"
<dwrensha> thanks.
<phildini> I plan to accept csv and vcard imports, hopefully soon. there's some architectural work that needs to happen first.
<dwrensha> piwik seems to be working as expected
<simonv3> phildini: cool, just saw the issues too
<simonv3> phildini: just out of curiosity, are you running logcats outside of sandstorm too?
wolcen has joined #sandstorm
Tryum is now known as Try`0xff
<phildini> yep. contactotter.com is the "canonical" implementation of Contact Otter. The goal is to have feature parity as much as can be acheived with Sandstorm, but contactotter.com is the one I use.
<phildini> simonv3: this is the ticket that basically needs to be resolved before I'm comfortable adding import: https://github.com/phildini/logtacts/issues/6
<phildini> because uploads, especially vcard uploads, could have arbitrary fields, we need to support arbitrary fields or people will lose data.
<simonv3> ah cool
<simonv3> I think option 1 makes the most sense to me, FWIW, you can do a lot of sorting in the view
<simonv3> whereas option 2 seems like you’d need an “other” field to capture things you haven’t taken into account yet, but then it would become tricky to split existing “other” things into their own things once it’s clear there’s a demand for that specific other
<simonv3> Or I guess you could just attach the specific category of thing automatically in option 2, instead of doing an “other” category at all?
<simonv3> hmm

<dudesweet> oasis down for anyone else or just me?
<dwrensha> works for me
<asheesh> oh hmm
<asheesh> Works for me!
<dudesweet> I'm just getting "Oops, looks like there's no route on the client or the server for url: "https://oasis.sandstorm.io/."";
<asheesh> Are you the person reporting an issue on Twitter, dudesweet ?
<dudesweet> yeah
<asheesh> I responded with a note about blocking cookies/localStorage: https://twitter.com/asheeshlaroia/status/704443039226294272
<asheesh> That seems to sometimes trigger this error. Is that what is catching you?
<asheesh> That is to say - if you *are* blocking localStorage, you will get this mega-obscure error message instead of anything useful.
<asheesh> Do you think that's affecting you here, or do you think it's a different issue?
<dudesweet> I should have probably tried other browsers first... but incog chrome doesn't work
<dudesweet> k its a chrome issue
<dudesweet> firefox works fine
<dudesweet> very strange error message though
<asheesh> That's true! I must AFK to run an errand. I think we can fix it, but it will take a while.

<kentonv> in https://github.com/sandstorm-io/sandstorm/issues/1578 which I guess I haven't read in the last three days
