jparyani: I think the vagrant-spk conversion of TinyTinyRSS may have accidentally dropped the APK file? Also, worthy question, should TTRSS support the new basic auth capability, so that TTRSS clients don't need to be forked?
rustyrazorblade has quit [Quit: rustyrazorblade]
<jparyani>
Ah dang, that's probably right. As to basic auth, ya it should change to showing an offer template and basic auth should work I think. I'll test it out tomorrow.
<asheesh>
egad, what a crazy world, no need to fork tt-rss anymore

Morning, all.
<wolcen>
asheesh: morning!
<asheesh>
Hi wolcen ! I don't talk to you enough. Remind me something about you!
<asheesh>
In other news, I truly do love that enough people use Sandstorm that people file bugs against the apps.
<wolcen>
wolcen: yeah, I don't make much noise usually.
<jacksingleton>
Gooood morning. New version of SandForms got released (somewhat late) last night. Let us know what you think! An email should be coming too.
<wolcen>
wolcen: I'd just heard of the meetup and met zarvox during the great presentation. I first popped in when I was getting an instance up that I moved to a vps (that had to be non-openvz for me due to the kernel version my provider used).
* wolcen
talks to himself again. asheesh ^
<asheesh>
: D wolcen
<asheesh>
Oh, awesome, wolcen ! Glad you made it to a meetup.
<asheesh>
All this kernel version & feature stuff is kind of a pain, but I guess it's nice that we're futuristic, or something.

hope y'all have a good day. headed to ny for an 'unconference'

have a great time!

<mnutt_>
it sounds like there was some talk about sandstorm and email earlier. long-term is the plan to be able to route email to a grain? and presumably that grain could get an email driver that could send email anywhere on behalf of that user? that would be really cool
jacksingleton has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<mnutt_>
i,i after a ~10-year hiatus I got into self-hosting again with github.com/sovereign/sovereign which configures postfix+owncloud+a bunch of other stuff. at this point I have gotten rid of most of the sovereign-configured apps except postfix and added sandstorm. after a long drawn-out fight with setting up z-push for email push last night I am now thinking emailinabox+sandstorm may be the way to go. but I'd be even happier if it was just sandstorm.
<kentonv>
mnutt_: There are two broad things I want Sandstorm to do better with email
<kentonv>
first, allow accepting email at addresses other than the randomly-generated per-grain one. That is, Sandstorm should be able to be your SMTP receiving server, and you should be able to use the powerbox to select which email address should route to which grain
<kentonv>
second, support for syncing email from an outside server, e.g. IMAP, since a lot of people will want that. I suspect we'll build on Nylas.
KooBaa has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
jacksingleton has joined #sandstorm
<kentonv>
but the second item seems less important. The first item is all you need for Sandstorm to be your whole mail server.
<kentonv>
I don't know when well be able to work on it.
<kentonv>
hopefully this year?

kentonv: awesome. I'm definitely more interested in the first case. I like nylas a lot but it seemed weird to me that before you had to trust gmail, now they're proposing you trust gmail and nylas
<mnutt_>
either way, props to them for building a really nice looking email client, and open sourcing it
<mnutt_>
imap has a huge complexity overhead. In the former scenario, it would be great to abstract some of that away with just messages sent/received through capnp
<mnutt_>
I'm also imagining spam filtering grains that sit between sandstorm and your inbox grain, but I don't know if they really fit into the sandstorm model since they don't contain data themselves
<kentonv>
mnutt_: I like the idea of spam filtering as a separate grain
<kentonv>
I also like the idea of PGP being applied by a separate grain that sits between your (big, complex, probably-buggy) client and your outgoing SMTP
<mnutt_>
that would be really great. decouple as much as possible and let them focus on a great UI, just transform the inputs and outputs
<kentonv>
a very simple PGP grain would hold your private key and use it to sign things, also logging everything it sees, and maybe offering you a simple UI to confirm mail bodies before signature (separate from your mail client UI, simple enough to be more trustworthy)
<kentonv>
though it is amusing that this is sort of the reverse of the usual architecture for end-to-end encryption
<kentonv>
but it would possibly work with all Sandstorm mail clients

kentonv: what about 3) IMAP access to a Sandstorm mail grain?
<digitalcircuit>

mostly for push mail to my phone

asheesh: if I wrote a PR that converted all the Blaze in sandstorm-app-market to React, would you merge it?
synchrone has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<asheesh>
Fine with me, zarvox
<asheesh>
Can you then convert it to Jekyll though?
<asheesh>
: P
<asheesh>
Mostly kidding; I think that we do need some dynamic functionality for comments etc.
<asheesh>
But that's it, and I do want to fix the app market's SEO problems.
<asheesh>
And speed is definitely a problem, and possibly a SEO problem.
<asheesh>
I'm +1 on your react idea especially because of your remark about flow router static rendering react etc.
<asheesh>
I have nearly never used React but I'm OK with learning new things.
<zarvox>
yeah, that would be the broader goal that that unit of work would contribute towards
<asheesh>
Exactly.
<asheesh>
Exciting.
<zarvox>
(also, learning about what sorts of things would probably show up if we were to do the same to Sandstorm proper.)
<zarvox>
We'll have a much worse time with the latter because we're still on IronRouter, though.
