<libv> doesn't sound overly bad

<wens> not sure about any of the virtualization features the Cortex-A7 is supposed to support
<wens> libv: I still have to clean up some of the clock code, and my kernel hangs without clk_ignore_unused atm

<maksimlin> hi I've got a couple of "onda" 10i tabs (A10s) that Im hoping to do some dev with so reading the great "New Device" wiki page, I'm trying to get them open to have a look at the boards but having trouble as aparently they are glued
<maksimlin> anyone have any tips on how to open up tabs that are glued together aroudn the inside?
<maksimlin> one of mine is this vi40 model and from the video it looks like I could end up breaking half the plastic getting it open :-(
<plaes> ouch
<plaes> please add a big fat warning about that to the header
<maksimlin> plaes yes good idea - doing it now
<maksimlin> I'm slowing documenting here: http://linux-sunxi.org/Onda_vi40_tablet
<plaes> yeah, saw that
<maksimlin> oh ok :-)
<maksimlin> about to try getting into FEL but had the thing plugged into usb and ofc ourse it just booted up since it draws pwr from teh usbn as well a having a dedicating pwr socket :-(
<plaes> and you can remove the '{{' and '}}'
<arete74> Open Hardware Summit 2014 rome 30 sep - 1Oct
<maksimlin> plaes: oh right, ok, not very used to using mediawiki syntax sorry
<plaes> np
<plaes> we have seen worse :)

<maksimlin> hi on the Retrieving device information wiki page it says "If you have booted through a hard reset (if you have a reset button), or by holding the recovery button (if available), or through usbboot, FEL will not load the necessary information to memory, and the retrieved data will be bogus"
<maksimlin> is there a way to check that the script.bin and boot1.header I fetched are valid ?
<maksimlin> hmm since bin2fex produced an emtpy file and on said "fexc-bin: script.bin: version: -1.-1.-1 fexc-bin: script.bin: size: 131072 (-1 sections)" I'm guessing I did not get valid data

<rZr> hi
<rZr> Is there a suggested tag I could use to build my own mainline kernel
<Turl> rZr: depending on your needs, you may want to use sunxi-devel branch, sunxi-next branch, or a release by Linus himself
Andy-D has joined #linux-sunxi
<rZr> i tried serveral already and kernel is not uncompressing yet
<rZr> weird
<rZr> I might have missed something
<rZr> is CONFIG_DEBUG_LL_INCLUDE="mach/debug-macro.S" only needed to get UART console ?
<rZr> note i have no initrd yet
jebba has joined #linux-sunxi
<ccaione> rZr: are you using sunxi_defconfig?
<rZr> yes
<Turl> rZr: run make menuconfig and make sure sunxi uart0 is checked for debug_ll
<Turl> rZr: also enable EARLY_PRINTK
<Turl> rZr: and make sure you set a cmdline, you're not setting any
<Turl> at the very least you want bootargs to be console=ttyS0,115200
<Turl> maybe add earlyprintk if you enable it as well
<rZr> ok I had those somewhere , let me doublecheck
<wens> bbrezillon: it is
<wens> bbrezillon: the gate in enabled, as I see 0x77777777 in the first register

<tipolosko> hi guys
bbrezillon has joined #linux-sunxi
<tipolosko> i've bought a new 7-port usb hub, now seems that thinks are working better
<tipolosko> i had only a lockup today, but couldn't check it.. because my girlfriend rebooted the device (i was at work)
<tipolosko> btw, where can i find some basic info to debug the lockup, if it represents ?
<tipolosko> i'm a windows programmer, so i have a bit of difficulty to debug linux binaries.. even bad with linux kernel crashes.. where rootfs is then nonworking O_o :D

<bonbons> Tipolosko: if it's the kernel that is hardlocking (usually panic) your best bet would be recoding output on serial console
deasy has joined #linux-sunxi
<tipolosko> bonbons: seems that usb controller is locking, not the whole kernel
<tipolosko> but i have rootfs on usb, so.. :D
npcomp has quit [Quit: leaving]
<bonbons> well, in that case, put a statically compiled busybox on a tmpfs and let it listen on ttyS0 so you can still access your system
<bonbons> not however that any usb disconnect will ruin your rootfs as it would cause the usb storage to obtain a new /dev/sdX node
<tipolosko> very good idea; was thinking about debootstrapping a minimal system on rootfs (without swap)
<tipolosko> but busybox binary is so simpler..
<bonbons> one option "around" that would be to put single-path multipath layer between your usb storage device (/dev/sdX) and the rootfs
<bonbons> that way when the usb device comes back it can be reconnected below your rootfs and resume operation of your system
<tipolosko> when the problem presents, the usb controller is locked; i can see usb devices with lsusb (lsusb binary was still in-memory) but no devices could be accessed
<tipolosko> i'm not 100% sure that all usb are dead, but system is unrensponsive
<tipolosko> and all leds of usb devices blinks like a christmas tree :D
<bonbons> hm, one way of playing could be to unbind and re-bind the usb hci - but be sure to capture kernel log (dmesg) whenever you can
<tipolosko> haven't tried unbind/bind route, i will
<bonbons> with multipath you can unplug your usb device and plug it back (hoping it unfreezes the usb stack) or do the unbind+bind, then reassign it to the upper device-mapper layer and continue using your rootfs
<bonbons> otherwise your rootfs is hosed anyhow (but you may still be smarter :)
<rZr> hi I managed to boot Linux-3.15.0-rc5-14270-g0c18900- . now how to configure uboot to load sun7i-a20-olinuxino-micro.dtb from sdcard ?
rZr is now known as RzR
<tipolosko> i'm more interested to debug what's happening than building a watchdog recovery system
<tipolosko> hoping to fix that bug :D
bbrezillon has joined #linux-sunxi
<bonbons> sure, but being able to recover makes debugging easier :) - you may also want to `echo t > /proc/sysrq-trigger`and capture dmesg again in order to determine what all tasks (kernel threads and processes) are doing, if you have some deadlock that lock should be visible
<tipolosko> RzR, have you tried this? http://linux-sunxi.org/Mainline_Kernel_Howto
<bonbons> rZr: does your uboot support device-trees? if so `bootm $kernel_addr $initrd_addr $dtb_addr`
<bonbons> (if you have no initrd replace $initrd_addr with a dash)
