<marcocastignoli>
Hey guys :) My name is Marco Castignoli. Some time ago I published this idea on Github (https://github.com/open-source-ideas/open-source-ideas/issues/78), it is about a federated ecommerce based upon IPFS. After a while I realized that the architecture I had in my mind could be bridge between IPFS and the avarage user. You can check out more about this architecture here
<r0kk3rz>
that gh issue is somewhat amusing to read
<r0kk3rz>
'cool idea lets build' > 'oh no we cant agree on a communcation mechanism'

marcocastignoli: i think you need to spend more time studying the problem, something with a bit more detail than 'amazon bad, lets make decentralised amazon'

r0kk3rz: the idea evolved a lot from that article, but still is the best way to share Nile's core values with others :) for example right now we are not focusing on the delivery system.
<r0kk3rz>
which is a shame because that would be most interesting part of it
<marcocastignoli>
I know but it is too much to handle.
<r0kk3rz>
building yet another ecommerce site seems silly when theres already plenty around

<marcocastignoli>
infact what I wanted to share here is the architecture of Nile, not Nile itself. The architecture is about creating a federation of ecommerces that shares the same way to publish products on IPFS (something like ActivytyPub). For example we will build a woocommerce plugin to allow people that already have woocommerce to join the Nile network
<marcocastignoli>
But it's not easy to explain this architecture in few words :)

Swedneck: we thought about it, but in the end we decided to go with a more used tool like Slack (if the project will eventually start then we'll move to decentralized / floss alernatives)
tombusby has joined #ipfs
<r0kk3rz>
marcocastignoli: so you want to make a standard format specification?
<Swedneck>
alright
RJD2 has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<marcocastignoli>
r0kk3rz: yeah making a standard format is a key part of the architecture. The objective of this architecture is to offer a way to create a decentralized / federated platform without a blockchain.
<r0kk3rz>
pretty sure things like scuttlebutt already offer that
<r0kk3rz>
im also not sure why 'without a blockchain' is part of the goal here
<r0kk3rz>
just choose the tech that solves your problem
<marcocastignoli>
because when you deal with real economy then speaking about bitcoins and friends is something that scares people. Right now there are no avaiable decentralized / federated ecommerces in which you can buy stuff with FIAT currencies.

so, how exactly are you planning to do payments? paypal?
<marcocastignoli>
there will be a flexible payment system. The seller chooses how to get paid.

but then again i feel the same about pixelfed, and that's definitely a good project
<marcocastignoli>
Ok, that's just a project I do in my free time, as an hobby. I'm just sharing it here because I think that it could be a good use case for IPFS.
<Kolonka[m]>
In all seriousness, I find it weird to both play up an anti-corporate angle whilst emphasising fiat currency use as a main selling point

The goal is to give a tool to sellers that allow them to sell stuff in the real economy in a more efficient way, how can they do that accepting only cryptos?
<r0kk3rz>
how will it be more efficient than posting stuff on gumtree/facebook/etsy/ebay .etc
<marcocastignoli>
comparing ebay, there are no fees and you can sell also services.
