Meh. I want docker on IPFS. That would mean you could actually delete files in build steps and not just tombstone them.

I have successfully configured tc/netem to impose a 1.26s delay on both incoming and outgoing network traffic, which is the lightspeed delay between the earth and the moon. It's an experience.

I absolutely recommend it to anyone who cares about delay-tolerant networking. It's amazing how much changes with just a couple of seconds of latency.

honestly I think the internet worked just fine decades ago when it was much slower

most of what the expanded bandwidth has been used for is porn and shiny decorations

an internet of text, IRC and images worked just fine, if not a lot better than the current internet

Hey everyone. I'm trying to make sure I understand IPNS properly. I've created a directory named "test" and inside of it I have one file named file. I put a single digit in the file, then ran ipfs add -r test and then ipfs name publish <the hash for test here>. I'm able to access it through the cloudflare gateway without an issue.
<andrewsp>
I edited test/file and changed it to have just the number 2 in there and then: ipfs add -r test

I then used ipfs name publish <new test hash>
<andrewsp>
I was under the impression that I could visit MyPeerId/file and it would contain the updates each time they were made and added/published. Am I wrong in my thinking?

Mikaela, copying does not work on pdf and svg unfortunately, because webextension had no access to clipboard from the background process, so it is basically injecting script responsible for copying into current page. I think Firefox exposed a new API for copying, so it may be worth revisiting.
<Mikaela->
Thanks, is there something to thumbs lp and/or subscribe?

well, download pretty much comes for free -- if the service has the file and is connected to the network, the file can be downloaded from any public gateway
<M-Sonata>
so really the issue is just upload

Okay, another IPFS question
<zed_undead>
if someone uses ipfs get to get a directory, in order to seed it, do they have to do ipfs add <path> -r or is it just seeding?

I am not entirely sure, but I think they would be seeding it until gc cleaned it unless they did "ipfs pin add", but I am not entirely sure
<Mikaela>
(maybe I should sleep if I repeat myself that badly)
<Swedneck>
add is just for adding non-ipfs files to ipfs
<Swedneck>
if you somehow request ipfs data, it's gonna be cached until gc, you use `ipfs pin add` to protect from gc
<zed_undead>
alright, makes sense

no

deduplication ftw
<Swedneck>
in fact it shouldn't make any requests even, it should just see that it already has the hash and thus just read it from memory/disk
