<DokterBob>
Nice!
<DokterBob>
BenLubar: you do a verify and then pipe it through a grep, a cut and xargs ipfs pin rm'them?
<DokterBob>
I remember having done it some time ago. It was a bit of a tedious hassle to tweak the commands but it's very doable.
<DokterBob>
jiggz: AFAIK there's a lot of music too
<BenLubar>
I ran "ipfs filestore verify | awk '{ if ($1 != "ok") print $2; }' | ipfs pin rm" and it just outputs "Error: zb2rhYSxdacv4s1AyBegHT75fJjbhPYJFcC5SEKh1qZAJJ2Y9 is pinned indirectly under QmPDzXTWXXHG3jUjsk8HVUyDsP1FQHVEyjq7B3PvFieVoj" and exits with failure
<DokterBob>
movies not so much, that's perhaps because of a crawl size limit
<BenLubar>
there's not a way to remove indirect pins, is there?

hey guys, I want to submit a bug report, yet am unsure if the functionality is intended. I have 3 terminal windows open. The first starts the ipfs daemon. The second subscribes to an ipfs room, and the third lists the peers that are connected. My own hash does not show up in the list. Only those connecting from the outside (sometimes) show up.

I have heard that ipfs allows editing / versioning published content, but I have not experimented with this yet. I have a use case where I would like to append to a file over time, so that the most recent version has everything. Is a workflow like this supported at all?

<ToxicFrog>
Rboreal_Frippery: you'd use IPNS for that. Upload the initial version, point IPNS at it, publish the IPNS hash rather than the IPFS one. When you append to it, update the IPNS record to point at the new IPFS hash.
<ToxicFrog>
N.b. IPNS does not currently work on small swarms, so you'll need to be part of the public swarm or at least have a few IPFS nodes up to do this.

Rboreal_Frippery, IPNS is basically just a pointer, so there's no actual versioning happening (although there are plans for that, just shouldn't happen soon).
<ToxicFrog>
Yeah, you'd do the versioning at the IPFS layer by including in each version a pointer to the previous version.

<lidel>
Rboreal_Frippery, if you mean an actual APPEND at the end of file, then check --help for `ipfs add --trickle` and `ipfs files write`. Both produce trickle-dag which is a linking structure optimized for random seeking and appending after initial creation (default `ipfs add` structure is optimized for reduction of link count)

lidel: is there a way to publish ipfs-companion to both stable and beta channels at the same time?
<Swedneck>
it's kinda weird that stable releases don't appear on the beta channel, leaving beta users with an older version
<lidel>
Swedneck, Stable is never ahead of Beta feature-wise. Everything that is in Stable is also in Beta. Its just numbers :)
