<Swedneck>
it would be incredibly nice to convince linux distros to switch to ipfs, i can see it bringing some insane performance benefits
<Swedneck>
it's almost the perfect use case for ipfs
<xpitr>
for package manager?
<xpitr>
because actual .isos most of the time already have official torrent
<Swedneck>
yeah, packages is what they were talking about just a couple messages ago
<xpitr>
that'd be cool and quite easy
<Swedneck>
although distributing the ISOs on ipfs would also be nice, shouldn't be much extra effort
<Swedneck>
it also brings up how i wish torrent applications would integrate ipfs
<brtknr>
thats a cool idea
<brtknr>
similar to how nixes has hashes for different versions of a package

i wonder if it would be possible to make torrent applications automatically find ipfs hashes for torrents
xcm has joined #ipfs
<xpitr>
you could use webseeds for seeding from ipfs
<xpitr>
but its quite pointless i guess
<Swedneck>
well if transmission could just discover ipfs hashes based on torrents, it could automatically request it from the network and benefit from both torrents and ipfs at the same time

imo if you want to pin stuff just abuse cloudflares gateway
<xpitr>
and still, get $300 credit from google, thats a full year for free :)
<ctOS>
I have a few small files that I want to ensure long-term availability for. Pinbits promises to make a 12 KB file available for over 2000 years for just 5 USD. So, … I guess that qualifies.
<ctOS>
r0kk3rz: you mean setup one of those free uptime monitoring tools to pull an url through cloudflare’s gateway every five minutes?
<xpitr>
also both google and amazon have free tiers. a shitty slow vps, but 100% free

<Mayeu>
I don't say you can't be cheaper, just that a business can't "just run a cheap VM" :)

Hi! I'm finding that the portion of the ipfs daemon which handles 'pin rm' jams up when I try to delete a pin I don't have, or I try to delete a few pins in a row, say beyond ~5-10. I then have to restart the daemon before I can add or unpin anything futher.

Is there some logging I can enable to trace what's amiss?
