<swedneck[m]>
which thing?
<patientplatypus>
@swedneck[m] i got a simple chat room up - which isn't a big deal, but now that i found the stupid thing i was doing wrong i think i can use ipfs for files later too
<patientplatypus>
so i got that going for me which is nice
<swedneck[m]1>
ah right, i remember you talking about that now :P
<patientplatypus>
@momack2 what is the general call about? looking for help or questions or...
<lgierth>
not a help channel :)
plexigras has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<lgierth>
better try discuss.ipfs.io (or this more ephemeral channel here)
<lgierth>
but you're welcome to the call even if it doesn't anwer your questions
<patientplatypus>
hmmm

speaking of gateways, does ipfs.io use gzip compression?

patientplatypus: what was the deal?
<patientplatypus>
im not sure really, which is super frustrating. I basically found the answer because i went to 2/3 githubs and said "nope this doesnt work for xyz" - actually a couple guys got back to me and fixed their stuff so I could use them as an example. Must have been a stupid syntactical thingy
<patientplatypus>
shrug
<AphelionZ>
alas
<AphelionZ>
glad you got it working though!
<patientplatypus>
yeah! now im working on making a chat with rooms and subrooms
<patientplatypus>
only bummer is that ill have to store the chat names in a db so thats a thing
<patientplatypus>
meh
<patientplatypus>
yeah and really thanks - zooming to get the answer was actually incredibly helpful
<patientplatypus>

patientplatypus: use orbitdb for the database and you'll still be in the ecosystem =)

hmmph! well, im thinking i might have to persist files at some point so I might use vanilla ipfs and then store hashes. Orbitdb....man. 200 lines or less for their api in a single file as an example and id think about it, but as of now....
<patientplatypus>
i just dont want to commit to a dependency that is this bleeding edge that i dont understand
<AphelionZ>
hahah you're using IPFS my man
<AphelionZ>
welcome to the world of the fringe
<AphelionZ>
I had the same concern though, to be fair, and i found out that orbitdb is funded for at least the next 3 years (maybe 2 now but still)
<patientplatypus>
sure, let me know in launch + 6 months and maybe there'll be something
<patientplatypus>
looks cool tho!
<patientplatypus>
honestly - so long as you save a file to IPFS and record the hashes you can look them up without too much trouble as far as i can tell
<Kolonka[m]>
I was looking between pages 8 and 9 of the white paper for about a minute before I realised that they are both to be read together, vertically first, then horizontally
<Kolonka[m]>
That's a very strange change to make 9 pages in
