<axx[m]>
great, except the page I get tells me the latest version is v1.5.2 from March 02, 2017, except I have v1.5.3 installed, so the page I get from my local IPFS node is clearly not up to date… how do I ensure I get the most recent version of the page?
<lidel>
axx[m], i think its just the website was not updated
<axx[m]>
(I'm using IPFS companion in Firefox and I've tried a ctrl+F5 in Firefox btw)
<axx[m]>
<freenode_lid "axx, do you mind filling issue a"> sure
<lidel>
thanks!
<axx[m]>
done
<axx[m]>
also, just tried a "go get -u github.com/ipfs/ipfs-update" to see if it would update, I get loads of "package BLAH: unrecognized import path "BLAH" (import path does not begin with hostname)".
<axx[m]>
(my GOPATH and GOROOT are set, so it should work AFAICT)
<axx[m]>
nope, my GOPATH isn't set

anyway, thanks everyone

(error is that local changes would be overwritten by a merge… I don't recall ever touching any of the files concerned, but I don't really have time to look into it now)

trying to use IPFS companion with my own custom gateway and API (not local)
<camb[m]>
I'm running the IPFS daemon --writable on the server but IPFS companion won't connect and I can't connect to the webui @ odat.xyz:5001 even though odat.xyz:8080 works.
<lgierth>
:5001 is the full api and it should never be exposed publicly
<camb[m]>
Makes sense. So running the daemon as writable should work? I guess I don't know how I should set ipfs companion to use it as a gateway then :/
<lgierth>
you shouldn't need --writable at all to connect companion to i

i was wondering about putting something similar to an HTML document with resources like pictures in it, on IPFS
<rain2>
in terms of accessing it would you need to first get the page then need to download every resource
<rain2>
is there any more efficient way around that?
<rain2>
doing things in a batch for example
<voker57>
what do you mean by efficient?
<OliverUv>
rain2: you're essentially asking for QUIC or HTTP/2
<OliverUv>
rain2: you could bake the contents into the html document as base64 encoded strings. It'd bring it down to just 1 http request, but the size would be much larger. Probably not a good idea.
<rain2>
OliverUv: yeah I like that idea, and I could probably use a binary formant and include them unescaped. But then the problem I see with it is the resources don't exist as individual entities that can be shared
<swedneck[m]1>
so dnsaddr is kinda like cname+a+aaaa in one?
<rain2>
could it be possible to create a box of some kind that contains multiple objects that can all be requested at once?
<swedneck[m]1>
a wrapping directory?
<xpitr>
you could have all images merged into one, that you then display only parts of using css. but thats so silly and inefficient
<xpitr>
just let browsers handle it lol. don't try to reinvent the wheel
<voker57>
what's your problem with multiple request anyway?
<voker57>
did you do some benchmarks?
<xpitr>
put caching nginx in front and let it send all with http2
shizy has joined #ipfs
<voker57>
i guess you could win some time if you managed to pack as much files as possible in one IPFS chunk...
<swedneck[m]1>
hmm, anyone know what i need to do to use my server as a bootstrap node?
<swedneck[m]1>
a dns entry that points to the server, and nginx redirect to localhost:4001?
<xpitr>
why'd you need nginx for that?
<xpitr>
and 4001 is the raw data port, not http from what i see
