<arokux> hi people. so I've tried to boot the newest kernel with ours u-boot on cubietruck. the boot stalls just after doing something with MMC card. so 1. is our u-boot recommend to use with mainline kernel? 2. seen similar behavior? :)
<mripard> what make you say that it doesn't work?
<mripard> arokux: update your DT.
<arokux> mripard: ok, thanks. what is the most recent tree for A20-sun7i (cubietruck)?
<mripard> it's not important
<mripard> just keep the DT in sync with whatever kernel you're usingi

<Faisal> guys, i have a quick question please. now that i got mainline kernel working on my cubietruck, ideally I would like to have the wifi working too. i think it is supported using the brcmfmac driver. however, i understand it needs a firmware too. has anyone here please got any idea what I should do ? where can I get the firmware and is adding the brcmfmac driver to the kernel the only thing required (im using 3.18rc1 which should have an uptodate dt i
<Faisal> assume)
<Faisal> (just so you know i am documenting everything so far, so if i get it to work, itll probably help others)
<ah> Faisal: IIRC bt and wifi is in the same chip and uses same firmware. http://linux-sunxi.org/Cubietruck/Bluetooth
<Faisal> ah: thanks I will have a look
<ah> Faisal: fyi, mainline things should work out of the box in Debian. Both debian packages of u-boot and linux supports cubietruck. (You still need to fetch the firmwares on your own though.)
<ah> Faisal: in testing/unstable that is... ie. Jessie or newer
<Faisal> ah: i actually tried the debian installer on the cubieboard, it works fine and installs everything, problem is when it reboots, kernel simply wont load
<Faisal> im not sure why (i dont have the bootlog anymore)
<ah> I haven't tried the installer myself. Just manual debootstrap and installing u-boot manually.
<Faisal> ah: oh i see. thats what I have right now (jessie)
<Faisal> ah: i guess i just need to recompile my kernel to add brcmfmac
<Faisal> ah: however 1 thing i am wondering is is I can add the firware directly in the firmware folder of my linux source, so that its gets added to the kernel and can be loaded automatically when the kernel boots
<Faisal> or do i still need to use the brcm_patchram_plus to load the firmware

<Faisal> also It still is unclear to me whether there is 1 firmware for both bt/wifi or 1 for each chip (Broadcom BCM43362 + BCM20710) --- names of fw files seems to imply the later : bcm20710a1.hcd & brcmfmac43362-sdio.bin)

<rellla> mnemoc: have the two already.
<mnemoc> rellla: I have more than 10 :p
<rellla> btw i will send another one, that implements fhandle by default, because this is needed in kernel to use systemd
<mnemoc> rellla: the reason is the Author field of the commit must be an identifable person, and that comes from git config
<rellla> mnemoc: 10 are definitely toooo much. i even don't know all my "spam" adresses ...
<rellla> ok author field. got it-
<rellla> hopefully debian discussion will about systemd will get no neverending story...
<libv> it will be a neverending story
<rellla> libv: it is already :p

<hramrach_> rellla: I think they have a point. systemd and upstart is faster than sysvinit
<hramrach_> but neither handles the situation when the system decides to fsck well - you just have a black screen
<hramrach_> nor is there good handling of multiple consoles (eg serial and tty)
<hramrach_> the output with one of these awesome new init system randomly goes to one of them
<hramrach_> and it sure is less documented and accessible with much of the logic in some binary

<TheQuestionmark> Hello there.
<lioka> Faisal: brcmfmac: brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds: Firmware version = wl0: Apr 22 2013 14:50:00 version 5.90.195.89.6 FWID 01-b30a427d
<Faisal> lioka: huh ? how did you do ?
<TheQuestionmark> I bought a BananaPi board that I try to hook up to an old CRT. Now I have converted the script.bin in order to work with the RCA output but the thing has problems showing the entire desktop i.E. bars are cut off and stuff like that. Changing setting in /boot/config.txt wont do a thing either.
<TheQuestionmark> Anyone has similar issues?
<hramrach_> you probably have issues with overscan
<TheQuestionmark> Most likely.
<hramrach_> how did you even manage to use a CRT screen? does it have TV input?

<Akagi201_> I want to know the CFLAGS config.
<Wizzup> sure.
<Wizzup> What exactly do you want though?
<Wizzup> Mostly -march=native just works fine
<Wizzup> And I didn't even include a -march= in mine
<Wizzup> CFLAGS="-Os -pipe -march=armv7-a -mfpu=neon -mfloat-abi=hard"
<Wizzup> Is something you can try

* dreamer tickles Wizzup
<Wizzup> yo :)
<dreamer> Wizzup: maybe you know how to fix this: I want to use non sd/hd resolutions on my cubie1. however I figured that the hdmi-driver of my kernel didn't support it is the edid settings. so I compiled a kernel from latest source because it has this added: https://github.com/linux-sunxi/linux-sunxi/blob/sunxi-3.0/drivers/video/sunxi/hdmi/hdmi_core.c#L64
<dreamer> however, still didn't work (I also tried to force the resolution in boot.cmd and the env)
<Wizzup> (Minor nitpick: not sure if the sunxi-3.0 is the 'latest'? Figured 3.4 was the usual branch)
<dreamer> then, I found: hdmi_edid.c which didn't have a check for that resolution: https://github.com/linux-sunxi/linux-sunxi/blob/sunxi-3.0/drivers/video/sunxi/hdmi/hdmi_edid.c#L124
<dreamer> so, I added the resolution there, but still it doesn't recognize it :/
<Wizzup> Isn't it possible to add modes on the fly with fbset and fb.modes?
nicksydney has quit [Quit: No Ping reply in 180 seconds.]

<dreamer> in the mean time it also no longer detects a screen with hd resolution >_<
<dreamer> Wizzup: but edid should support it no?
<Wizzup> I would assume so...
<Wizzup> what res are we talking about btw
<dreamer> 1280x1024
<Wizzup> and this doesn't ``just work''?
<Wizzup> It's a bit peculiar, since I recall having some recent sunxi 3.4 kernel on a cubie a10 and it just worked when I plugged it into some random lenovo monitor that was exactly the res you mention
<dreamer> so far it doesn't, no
<dreamer> ok, I need to plug it back in and check what kernel is running _now_ ..
<Wizzup> Per http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_Kernel I used sunxi-3.4
<Wizzup> I can also see if I can find the kernel 3.4 I used (as uImage) that had hdmi enabled
<Wizzup> As test/reference or something.
<dreamer> Linux debian 3.4.103+
<dreamer> running now
<dreamer> and it doesn't 'just work'
<dreamer> however, I should note that I'm using an hdmi->vga converter, but on all my other devices this succesfully detects edid info
<dreamer> and I can use other resolutions there
<Wizzup> (for the record I had hdmi->dvi)
<dreamer> ok
<Wizzup> It may be the case that I cannot power the hdmi convertor?
<Wizzup> s/I/it/
<dreamer> no it worked before with a 1080p screen
<Wizzup> alright
<dreamer> but that was with the kernel that came with the debian image I used
<dreamer> and now that doesn't work anymore
<dreamer> (using the settings in script.bin, with boot.cmd and env disabled)
<dreamer> eeeenieweej, I'm a bit confused now :P
<Wizzup> maybe try to start with a clean state, or is that what you just mentioned?
<dreamer> define 'clean state' ?
<dreamer> (you don't happen to be at techinc or something? :P)
<Wizzup> perhaps we should continue in pm :)
<dreamer> hehe, sure :)
<montjoie[home]> yeah up to 10% speed improvment with use of writesl() in the crypto accelerator

<hramrach_> I tried to connect an a10s board to a 1440p screen and it only detected 1080p resolution
<hramrach_> seems the EDID code is not perfect
<hramrach_> it might be a limit of HDMI, too
<hramrach_> also when I connected it to a 1280x1024 it worked but for some reason the screen was confused and displayed the output like 5x scaled .. because it thought there is overscan and the rest ids useless or something

<Wizzup> Question: Per http://linux-sunxi.org/Fex_Guide#disp_init_configuration doesn't seem to allow 1280x2014 for HDMI as mode; why is that?
<Wizzup> It appears that when using 'clone' mode rather than 'dual' mode, the hdmi output does support the mode
<Wizzup> But it's not in the 'modelist' for hdmi

<techn> hramrach_: Wizzup: why dont you use fbset?
<dreamer> techn: I'm trying this right now, but I can't get it to use the right frequency
<dreamer> and when I do for instance: fbset -fb /dev/fb1 1280x1024-60
<dreamer> I get: ioctl FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO: Invalid argument
<dreamer> ok, adding -depth 32 seemed to work .. at least the screen isn't complaining anymore .. now to get something to display on it ..

<dreamer> (screen is def 1280)
<dreamer> 800x600 also works
<dreamer> it's also odd that on the vga output the framebuffer is misaligned with the screen
<dreamer> it's moved like 10% to the right
