libv: any news regarding the meminfo problem on my A23?
<rmax>
Sorry, not meminfo, but fexc.
<rmax>
BTW, I get the same error when running fex2c on the FSL S8's script.bin, so I wonder if there is a generic problem in fexc.
<libv>
rmax: i have barely slept and have had no time for anything in the last ~36h
<libv>
rmax: you should be able to resolve this yourself, the code is not that hard.
<rmax>
Well, I at least worked around it by commenting out the error exit.
<rmax>
The output I get from it looks reasonable.
<rmax>
But I didn't want to bother you, just asking, because yesterday you said you might get to it later on.
<libv>
yeah, i thought so yesterday
<libv>
i was in bochum then, i am now in stuttgart
<libv>
it's been a busy few h
<rmax>
OK, never mind, I'll try to wade through it myself.
<libv>
as said, it's not much code and not that hard
<libv>
it could be prettier, but that shouldn't stop an experienced coder
<rmax>
Do you think we can at least briefly meet up some time this week and have a beer or something?
<libv>
rmax: nope
<libv>
i am back in bochum tonight and only back in nue on friday evening, monday early morning i am off again
<rmax>
bummer
<libv>
well, i do not work for suse, so i do not have hackweek :)
<rmax>
I know
<rmax>
I was more thinking of an after-work/hack beer. ;)
<rmax>
But maybe another time.
<libv>
the best i can do is saturday evening, i might meet up with mkoenig and mdfe then
<rmax>
Let's see, I might be downtown on Saturday, but by car and I don't know yet for how long.
popolon has joined #linux-sunxi

<libv>
err
<libv>
artefakt
<libv>
pfff
<libv>
ah, you used the word downtown
<libv>
which is like 100m from your place
<rmax>
One last question and then I'll stop bothering you: Is the format of those bin files documented somewhere?
<rmax>
100m from my previous place.
<libv>
about the format of this file
<libv>
it's like a windows .ini
<libv>
and have you looked at our wiki?
<libv>
it's called "Fex_Guide"
<rmax>
I meant the binary file format, because the compiler complains when trying to decode it.
<rmax>
And yes, I have looked at the wiki, but maybe not found all the bits and pieces yet, let alone sorted them correctly in my brain. ;)
<libv>
well, "have you looked at the wiki" is the sunxi mantra :)
<libv>
so you're pretty likely to hear that, and depending on the mood of the person saying it, it often is followed with a further pointer

OK, so bin2fex assumes that a binary fex file cannot have an empty section, but the script.bin files of the two (A23 and A31) tablets I have here, both contain an empty gps_para section. I guess this means that empty sections are valid and the code should only error out if the length is too large or negative, but not if it is zero.
deasy has joined #linux-sunxi
<libv>
rmax: allwinner changes its usage of the fex _all_ the time
<libv>
rmax: so please fix the fexc to allow empty sections and send in a patch :)
<rmax>
Yes, I already am about to do that.
<rmax>
Just checking if I also need to adjust the fex2bin part...
<rmax>
I guess that "bin2fex | fex2bin" should result in a file that is bit for bit identical to the original one.
<rmax>
... or is it enough if "fex2bin|bin2fex" results in two identical ascii files?
<rmax>

from the wiki it seems like the A20 only has gmac... is that right? the boards.cfg of u-boot has multiple A20 devices with SUNXI_EMAC as an option
<mripard>
the A20 has both

if you're using mainline, you're using the GMAC

it's what u-boot is going to use
<mripard>
it shouldn't have any impact on what the kernel is using

well, you can have both drivers enabled, and still using only one of them
