<wens> ijc: what needed soldering on the cubietruck for the testbed?
Andy-D has joined #linux-sunxi
<ijc> wens: Nothing to the cubietruck, but theres a power relay board, a PSU to drive them all etc etc.
<ijc> I'm building a 4U rack chassis with 4x CT and 4x Arndale
<ijc> It's actually less soldering and more wiring into terminal blocks, but soldering sounds cooler ;-)
<ijc> I suppose I ought to post/blog about it when it's done...
<ijc> /me needs to head to the office and get on with it ;-)

<vlotho> hi
<vlotho> I saw that for cubieboard3 it was necessary to have a kernel in uImage format. how to freebsd? there is there a way to generate this format kernel?
<mripard> vlotho: I don't know who told you that, but it's not true
<mripard> uboot-sunxi can boot a zImage just fine
<vlotho> compiling freebsd comes out a file kernel.bin
<mripard> and I don't know what image format freebsd generates, but if it's something that "just boots" (ie you can just jump to it), it should be fine
wingrime has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<mripard> just use uboot's go command
<vlotho> when I boot the ct I have a message like what the file does not have the uImage format and then asked me to reboot the ct.
<mripard> what command are you using to boot your kernel image?
<vlotho> spl: not an uImage at 1600
<vlotho> spl: not an uImage at 80
<vlotho> no specific command. these messages print lighting the ct.
sehraf has joined #linux-sunxi
<vlotho> U-Boot SPL 2014.04 (Sep 23 2014 - 21:21:44)
<vlotho> DRAM: 2048 MiB
<vlotho> Board: Cubietruck
<vlotho> CPU: 960000000Hz, AXI/AHB/APB: 3/2/2
<vlotho> spl: not an uImage at 1600
<vlotho> spl: not an uImage at 80
<vlotho> ### ERROR ### Please RESET the board ###
<mripard> you don't have u-boot's second stage bootloader, is this expected?
<vlotho> Originally I had followed the method given on the website of the freebsd arm port, but as it was impossible to compile u-boot directly on freebsd because of the linux compatibility, I faitent on ubuntu. from there I followed the sunxi method to place u-boot on my sd, but the main partition remained that of freebsd kernel with its top.
<vlotho> on the site of freebsd, the method given is specific for cubiboard1 and 2 and not for ct.
wingrime has joined #linux-sunxi
<vlotho> I am just about to buy me a Wandboard, that looks to be better supported.
<mripard> you're not answering my question, but you're saying that you followed http://linux-sunxi.org/Bootable_SD_card#Bootloader ?
<vlotho> I followed this method, yes
<mripard> then you flashed u-boot.img wrong
<mripard> try to do that again, this time with "dd if=u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin of=${card} bs=1024 seek=8"
<mripard> to make sure that everything is at the right place
<vlotho> ok, it's still strange.
<mripard> then you'll get to a prompt where you will have the opportunity to use the go command I was telling you about

<mripard> do you know what kind of latencies we can expect?
<mripard> does xen has any latency overhead?
<ijc> mripard: rt-xen is somewhat separate I think. Xen does some overhead since it is on the irq path (at least until gicv4 lets us get out of the way), but I don't have numbers.
<mripard> ijc: too bad :)
<mripard> you got bbrezillon and I interested anyway ;)

<wens> yay!
<ssvb> however the tablet was advertised as 'new', but it is obviously used
<wens> you should ask for a partial refund :(
<ssvb> yeah, I guess I should definitely try
<ssvb> the screen was dirty under the sticky protective cover, the battery was fully discharged and the package was missing a micro-usb cable (not that I really need an extra micro-usb cable, but it shows that the guys were messing with the package contents)
<ssvb> I'm more worried about the battery, it seems to be charging very slowly (only ~400mA current), hopefully it is not half-dead

<hramrach_> lauri: it's quite possible that sunxi-vdpau that mvp does not use but vlc does
<hramrach_> * sunxi-vdpau does not implement
<hramrach_> when one works and other doesn't I guess gdb and/or debug prints are your friend
<hramrach_> also read which part of code generates that error and backtrack to the unimplemented feature :p
<hramrach_> also vlc used to be run as cvlc iirc
<hramrach_> so maybe try if that makes things better
<hramrach_> and there was a special vdpau output that prevented those colorspace issues, too
