<hramrach_> arokux: pretty all USB communication is multipoint. You just have 1 master and up to 99 slave devices
<hramrach_> I wonder what happens when you connect 2 OTG ports
<hramrach_> probably the devices fail to decide which is master and just do not communicate

<hramrach_> arokux: a core is sold and the SoC manufacturer butchers the driver to integrate it with other parts of the SoC like interrupt controller, DMA controller, particular register mapping, pinmux, etc. Then the board vendor butchers it further to integrate id the baord design with particular power/reset pins. And that's what you receive if anything at all
<arokux> hi mnemoc
<hramrach_> hello :)
<arokux> ssvb: you said you are using this patch https://github.com/linux-sunxi/linux-sunxi/commit/d1eb7fe40ec5a61178a2c4b0bf339310aaf9a7f4 but it says only host mode is supported. how come you can use gadget mode?

<rmax> Hi
FreezingAlt has joined #linux-sunxi
<rmax> I am starting to set up my environment to go about the A23 next week (https://hackweek.suse.com/11/projects/246).
<arokux> hramrach_: you are right about multipoints, it is obvious it is multipoint. the thing they say musb soft core can be configured to be either point-to-point or multipoint (requires usb hub additionally) in host mode. so that is why I thought multipoint is something special.
<wens> rmax: great!
<rmax> What would be the preferrable cross compiler for that, given that stock openSUSE doesn't have one, AFAIK.
<rmax> I looked at Linaro, but got lost in the numerous variants: http://releases.linaro.org/14.06/components/toolchain/binaries
<rmax> And they don't seem to have binaries for gcc-4.7, which seems to be the preferred one, according to the Toolchaing wiki page.
<hramrach_> arokux: if it was possible to get that working you could like connect 5 tablets to a hub and ... what?
esperegu has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
esperegu has joined #linux-sunxi
<arokux> rmax: I remember there were some problems with newer versions a year or even two ago. it may have been fixed. you could try to get the oldest one the linaro has. just an idea
<arokux> hramrach_: no. you could connect several usb devices to a tablet. this is what is says if I understand it correctly
<rz2k_> 4.7 is just a version in something like emdebian, so it was set preferred.
<rz2k_> you can use whatever you have available.
<rz2k_> you can also just download crosstool-ng and compile yourself latest or a certain version of cross compiler.
<rmax> The page says "When in doubt, try 4.7 first." at the bottom of the Linaro link list and warns about problems in their 4.8 version.
<rz2k_> 4.8 had problem with all ARM kernels year ago, it was patched everywhere.
<rmax> I see.

<libv> rmax: opensuse has a toolchain
<libv> ask around, it's somewhere in the obs
<rmax> On 13.1 "zypper se -s gcc | grep arm" only revealed some icecream backends.
<rmax> Anyway, I installed a linaro toolchain, which will hopefully do it for now.
<libv> yeah, it will work, but it would've been nice to have that info added to our wiki
<libv> i got told about this toolchain in iirc april 2013
FreezingAlt has joined #linux-sunxi
<rmax> But trying the sdcard trick to enter FEL mode keeps bricking my tablet at least temporarily.
<rmax> Last time I opened it and after some fumbling without disconnecting any cables, it suddenly booted again.
<rmax> This time I just waited, but so far it still seems dead.
FreezingCold has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<rmax> BTW, trying the Power/Vol+ sequence to enter FEL mode gave me some sort of android recovery console.

<rmax> That requires a soldering iron for this device, which I don't have at hand right now.
<libv> ?
<libv> ok, go through it from the start
<libv> you created an sd-card, how?
<libv> rmax: do you have a uart?
<rmax> Not yet, but planned for this week.
<libv> then what do you expect to achieve?
<libv> a23 is pretty far out there
<libv> now, this sdcard image is probably only for a10, and then hopefully also applies for a13/a10s and a20
<rmax> I was just curious if I get this thing into FEL mode.
<libv> you can, but apparently not this way
<libv> i got it into fel mode, so has wens, and i am sure hramrach has managed the same
<libv> but there is nothing to learn from that apart from the chipid atm
<rmax> As the Vol+ thing didn't work, I thought I wouldn't risk anything by trying it with the sdcard, not thinking that this might leave the device in a state were it doesn't recognize the power button anymore.
<libv> you did remove the sdcard, right?
<rmax> Yes.
<libv> and you know that holding the power button for a long time should shut it down, just like with a laptop?
<rmax> No, I had used the shutdown menu of Android.
<libv> so try holding that button for 10-15s
wickwire has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<rmax> Anyway, it just came back when I held Vol+ and Power for some time.
<libv> now let it be until you have found uart :)
<rmax> ... or maybe it was due to me holding only Power for some longer time before that. ;)
<libv> you did run meminfo and grab the script.bin from android?
<rmax> I've foud UART just not yet soldered wires to it.

<rmax> no meminfo etc. yet.
<libv> go do that first
<rmax> ok
<rmax> Where can I read up on meminfo?
<libv> ndh howto
<rmax> meminfo says: Error: unknown or unhandled Soc: 0x1661
<libv> hrm, ah, right, i probably need to get that latest set of patches in
<libv> err
<libv> unknown SoC
<libv> are you certain that this an a23?
<rmax> not anymore. ;)
<libv> open it up
<libv> or did you put pics on the device page?
<rmax> Yes, I did and yes it lies open next to me, and the CPU says A23 dual core.
<libv> see, this is the thing, if the ndh is followed properly, all that information is at hand
<libv> ok
<libv> interesting
<libv> mine reads 1650
astr has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<libv> hack meminfo to also include 0x1661 for a23 for now
<rmax> ok
<rmax> Shall I replace 1650 or extend sunxi_soc_version?
<rmax> BTW, /proc/cpuinfo says:
<rmax> Hardware : sun8i
<rmax> Revision : 0000
<rmax> OK, got meminfo output.
<libv> did you get the fex file?
<libv> also, did you manage to get pictures of the board?
<rmax> Yes, I uploaded pictures about two weeks ago.
<libv> ah, right

<libv> yeah
<libv> i need to go spend some time on that it seems, it does seem to be a fex file, just our interpreter doesn't like it
<libv> ok, i know what to spend my time on, in a bit, right now i have a more pressing matter to deal with
<libv> but this does seem to be all the information which is needed right now
<libv> get yourself that uart
<rmax> No problem, I am also not supposed to spend too much time with this this week, only wanted to get the needed tools up and running.
<rmax> And yes, I'll have the UART ready by then.
<libv> that's the issue with a23 and beyond
<libv> we first need to spend time to get the tools up and running
<rmax> By tools I meant the toolchain for now. ;)
<rmax> The tools needed to work on the tools next week...
<libv> :)
<libv> meminfo worked, so your toolchain works

<ssvb> arokux2: ok, sounds good, maybe I just did not configure it right

<arokux2> ssvb: hm.... it was to early to cheer. I cannot configure it. adding default route on board will give "RTNETLINK answers: No such process"
<arokux2> ssvb: ignore it..
<arokux2> ssvb: I needed to bring the interface up. on the host (PC) bringing it up will fail, but network communication still works.

<arokux2> ssvb: guess what.. it not that good. g_cdc will work, where as g_ether will NOT work...
<arokux2> hramrach_: I've found an a message from you on ML where you said g_ether worked for you. did you actually tested the communication?
<arokux2> ssvb: and g_cdc will cause ooops with AW code :)
<ssvb> arokux2: yep, this stuff is funny

<hno> arokux2, why do you say that no one does anything on the NAND front? It's actively being mainlined thanks to bbrezillon
<arokux2> hno: I haven't noticed

<arokux2> ssvb: and now this is REAL fun. if configuring with ifconfig/route AW code works. if with ip (from iproute2) it will NOT work with g_ether
<arokux2> hno: another bug found :) ---^
<arokux2> sometimes I think how Linux got so popular. it is so buggy
<arokux2> ssvb: also the usb cable should be inserted two times :)
<hno> arokux2, don't base your Linux experience on AW kernel sources...
<arokux2> hno: you think red hat kernel is dead stable?

<arokux2> ssvb: either for aw or for musb code
<arokux2> ssvb: ok, so g_ether should be configured with ifconfig/route
